I hope you guys didn't mind my mostly negative rant about the team wide gauge per turn being an NP level scaling effect. I usually prefer not to be pessimistic about things as much as I can. But I just have very mixed feelings about putting more incentive to whaling for NP levels. Maybe I'm exaggerating here if anything.

Considering there's a chance she can loop easily and stack the effects consistently, the NP levels aren't as taxing as you might think. Entirely depends on hwo often you can proc it imo.

appreciate it, kinda needs to be said the game's gotten scummier and scummier for a game that's already considered one of stingiest gachas. The append coins was already pretty obnoxious, now they're turning what would've been an sr into an ssr just to add on another banner.

I just listened to what you said and honestly, I completely agree. It's really infuriating, especially when compared to a lot of other supports where almost all of the non-whales can comfortably get by with only NP1 (Obviously, if you get NP2 or higher for someone like Castoria, it's definitely better but it's not essential) I also think the fact that it only lasts 3 turns as opposed to normal Merlin's 5 turns sort of additionally incentivizes people to roll more copies of her. In effect, while Merlin is always going to give the party 25% over the course of 5 turns, a lot of people might be tempted to roll at least NP2 of Proto Merlin so that way, they are getting more than just 15% charge over 3 turns.

I understand the initial reaction but don't think it's that big of a deal tbh. The additional NP per turn would be nice, but her NP buffs only lasting 3 turns means that it doesn't matter as much. Especially when her toolkit already enables so much np spam. Then you factor in all the other ways FGO can help enable NP spam and you realize that no matter what NP level, proto merlin's gonna be spamming hers easily while enabling the party to do the same. The NP per turn being on NP level is an incentive for sure and it is kinda scummy on lasagna to do. But I don't think it's a really huge one if you get what I mean. The whales and people that love merlin were gonna go for extra NP levels either way, but I don't think most other people will feel a need to NP2+ her. Now imagine if they tied Castoria's invul hit count to NP level lmao.

@@DustyBlind no, if it is 5 turns an np level difference would make bigger difference than 3 turns. Np1 PMerlin is equal to Merlin right at this moment, there's no need to whale over NP1 unless you really, really need it. Besides, people like to forget np charge goes in true numbers so for some turns that 7.5% will only register as 7% and your np is 98% 😛

Well for F2P, reading the NP level benefits is just like reading a myth. So, I might just ignore its existence as always LMAO. She is already good as it is after all

Honestly even with np lvls she’s literally just a slightly better Merlin. You’re essentially paying for the slightest upgrade possible when their so interchangeable that having one or the other is honestly irrelevant

I'm just happy that mobile players have gotten, in this year alone, three of the servants that there has been a lot of push to be available, Charlegmagne, Archetype:Earth/Arcueid, and proto Merlin.

Though I agree on the NP levels being beyond scummy, considering all that it garners, her mats and ascension is QUITE achievable just with the pure prisms you can get doing the plot, which is precisely what I'll be doing once I get apples to burn and beat down on the lostbelts with Arcueid.

Does the pure prism shop get reset? Cause if not, then that may not be achievable for newer players who may look to leveling other servants who would provide more variety and ease in gameplay. Especially to catch up storywise.

@@Kryptora As far as I have been aware? Not really. Its just 100 of each mat in the game. It gets updated, but thats about it. You gotta be smart about your resources, since you need to know how you're gonna pool it. Edit: Upon Further investigation, it does _not_ reset, so you have a finite number of Pure Prisms for trade in, which is a pain, since you'll only get so many prisms from the Main Quests, plus however much you can scrounge up from leveling your servants.

At np1 Proto Merlin provides the same charge per turn as regular Merlin. I don't see the problem lol. Besides both are limited and Merlin hadn't had a banner in a while. So can't she just be seen as an arts Merlin? Like all other servants if you want more, you need to higher their nps

Supports should be 100% fine at Np1 but for Merlin here you gonna feel like yo missing out particularly if you don't have castoria and we're hoping to slot Merlin in as replacement. But eh, she is waifu Merlin so that's that

I'm honestly slightly worried about fgo leaning into making servants like this that are designed to whale for, I hope this doesn't happen often/again

@@RiotAugust one side effect that scales by % is nothing compared to Genshin's locked character functionality. IMO, we are already at this point ever since Skadi with Dantes demands an np3, I don't understand what's different now. People who paid for him back then have about the same incentives as getting that extra 2.5% for PMerlin.

@@RiotAugust it's 12% increase in dmg output, i wouldn't say it's "QoL" but her c1 is indeed make her stronger the same way NP level did. Moreover, GI did lock abilities mostly for 4* cons but you are guaranteed if you do 10 roll, whereas fgo can't even code for rotating single 4* banner without fucking up the pity's code

as an NA player, I'm so excited especially I have Tamamo and Castoria.

If you compare her directly to OG Merlin (especially considering how her entire kit is derived from his), then the NP scaling is a nonissue in terms of gameplay. It is definitely a potential sign of them actually making NP levels matter, but OG Merlin has a flat NP regen of 5% without scaling. 5% is perfectly fine and there's no real reason anyone should feel like they need to go for NP2-5 on Lady Avalon when OG Merlin already makes 5% work. Still, just because this isn't that bad doesn't mean a future unit's effects aren't worse. Let's hope Skadi Summer is just busted for the sake of being busted

@@kun2588 this too. There’s no p2w element to her if the only thing is that her NP can overcharge. Most of the time if you’re running a Proto Merlin comp you’re probably gonna have a support Proto Merlin anyway, so there’s your 10% a turn

one thing you didnt seem to grasp about her kit, is that if there are 3 enemies, you can get 100% charge turn 1 --> immediate np from her on the first turn. With second append maxed, you can also do this with only 2 enemies. This is why i lean to say, that she is a much better merlin, since as we all know merlin needs a little bit of time till he gets going with his np spam, but she can do it immediately while still having free choice with ce's. And since you will pair her up with another arts support, lets say castoria or a second Proto merlin, you can get her np turn 1 through the charisma without wasting a buff for the dps.

Reminds me of Nobokatsu where he had his first and third ascension be normal, and his 2nd was a summer one.

Well, Nobukatsu was meant to emulate the style of every Nobu. 1st was normal Nobu, 2nd was Summer Nobu, and 3rd was Avenger Nobu. It is similar in a way, though likely for different reasons imo.

Miyu was also one of those "get to NP5 or you lose out" servants

we're seeing myst looking more like a gigachad with every video and I'm here for it

As an NA player i'm screaming in pain. We get Murumasa, Vitch, avenger Kama just to name a few next year. And now in 2 years we get Arcuid, Proto Merlin, and Summer Skadi. Time to decide to to save for and who to roll for.

I'd go with Koyanskaya and Muramasa/Arcueid, then get supports for the rest. This isn't even mentioning Himiko, Van Gogh, Douman, re-runs and other strong/fun servants on the way.

She seems pretty cool, didn't expect her to be arts version of the regular Merlin. New Skadi will be interesting too, lots of potential in a Ruler support if she turns out to be that.

Proto Merlin could be a great combination with Servants like Dioscuri or Muramasa for Three Turns clear and you can also team them up with Castoria, Merlin or Skadi. And her NP is absolutely beautiful IMO!!!!

proto merlin may be the first 5 star ill np5 depending on what summer skadi does, got plenty of time to save since theres not really much im rolling for after na gets koyanskaya.

I have a feeling that a great new team comp will be her, castoria, and your arts DPS of choice. She provides a psuedo heal because of the max hp increase, and even more survivability with the team invul

I really like the fact that at least one of her ascensions isn’t summer related. As much as I enjoy the summer servants, I feel a bit silly when I play through main story using swimsuit servants. Having a more traditional or “serious” looking ascension brings back the immersion for the story. Hope Summer Skadi gets the same treatment Edit: Also I like how they’re experimenting with passives a bit more, hope to see some creative passives in the future.

@@pingufan1239 Althou I preferred full summer ascensions, the other 2 ascensions also look pretty good still gonna main her 2nd one. Tbh It looks like they decided to give us both proto merlins in one as her debut release on mobile.

Honestly there’s a ton of ways to increase np charge with CEs like devilish which is a perma CE so it’s not that’s awful on the np per turn

I was in a bad mood the other day and ended up yeeting 300 sq onto the Abigail Williams banner in the name of stress relief, and although i did get her (a servant i really like), im sure dealing with the aftermath of not having any sq for this event 😭

Finally my healthy kidney is ready

Buster: Has merlin,Koya L, Oberon Arts: Has Proto merlin, Castoria, Tamamo caster Quick: Has Skadi Also Waver is Mr. Worldwide I think quick sooner or later will get a merlin like Servant

Poor Tamamo's gonna have to wait until EXTRA Record's release (and the buff and/or costume that comes with it?) to have a chance to shine again.

double np5 proto merlin gives 16k max hp up so I think she might work well with Angra Mainyu's np

On the whole thing about the NP scaling, I kinda think it is nice to have an NP where the NP levels actually scale in a nice way. I was personally intending to NP5 her either way, so to me it is nice that I actually would get something out of it that makes it feel more worth it. It is kind of a hard balance to strike though, because if you make the scaling too good then you are incentivizing whaling, but if the scaling is too bad then getting NP levels just kinda sucks and punish those who either gets spooks from servants (she is limited now but I am thinking in general with servants you might get spooked), or just people who want NP levels because they really like the character.

Love her, but did we truly need another arts support

What are the odds of them backpaddeling? I would be fine if it was either max hp or even np gain that would scale with NP level. Just not both. A tad bit too much lasagne.

Im surprised we don’t get more summer servants with normal outfits. Matching ascetics with the field is a big thing for me. It’s why i change off of memories of trefas

i dont necessarily agree with the np per turn being np level scaling is scummy, i think its kinda balanced out by lady avalons good skillset plus an arts team doesnt need passive np gain as much as a buster team on the account youll get arts chains out the ass which on average does make up for it sure, the np level doubling the np regen will speed up clears by a couple turns but youre not exactly short on np in an arts team

Considering OG Merlins np per turn is also 5%, I'm not worried about the np levels.

Watch Summer Skadi be able to literally double the Quick Buffs (value, duration, or both) on target Servant.

I'm so Happy that in one multisummon i got 2 copy of proto Merlin

looking at the CDs, at least OG Merlin have some advantages over her still. Although this clearly shows the need for some kind of buff to him.

Merlin does have the longer effects on his NP, meaning he can stack those effects more, plus his shorter cooldowns. But Avalon can charge faster with higher np levels, has her overcharge buff, and can seff charge her np and drain enemies with her 3rd skill. They do have their own benefits imo.

Main difference I see for stalling is that proto Merlin lacks a heal, one of the main reasons for bringing Merlin to a long stall is that he keeps the party topped off so that you can keep going indefinitely. If you ran a similar stall team with say castoria and proto Merlin you would now need the third servant to bring some party-wide heals or you will eventually die to chip damage.

Gameplay wise, I don't see any reason to roll her since I have Castoria, Tamamo, and even og merlin. We can just borrow one from friend, and use our own Castoria/Tamamo. I don't see double Merlin even still a thing since I still prefer def buff in Merlin stalling. Even with Casgil on paper works great with double s. Merlin, I still prefer Tamamo between them to cut downtime cycle.

I feel like rolling for her encourages questionable servant design like the np charge per turn should of just been the over charge, especially when the other summer servants from what I've seen don't need np5 for the full experience, like Castoria waver and both versions of Skadi don't need more than np1 and at np5 proto Merlin isn't even better than Castoria it feels like this was done to either keep the Arcade crowd happy or to simply cash in on FOMO

Every time another broken Arts support gets released that's literally a buff to Tamamo since she still snowballs survivability and sustained damage simultaneously like nobody else. That's literally always how it has been ever since she was released, just her partners merely have changed over time depending on quest. Also still has effectively a monopoly on NP damage up (at 30% no less) so the optimal nuke damage setups still absolutely want her. Less relevant my ass, TamAvalon is just going to make ST damage quests a joke lol. Also for many players the fact Tamamo is non-limited is literally one of the most relevant things for this game in general.

I find it humorous that even though there's been an obvious gender change between Vanilla and Proto, and a shift from Buster focus to Arts, they're otherwise more identical than most alternate versions in the game. I guess Merlin is Merlin no matter the AU...

we just basically got arts merlin, and Arcuied is a great universal buster farmer. dam quick is down BAD even after the buffs hate to see it. there really is no reason to use quick over buster and arts most the time.

She's pretty much ambivalent to Arthur as much as Merlin was to Artoria in lore lol. In proto's case she left out information there were 4 Beast 6s, not 2 and even sent him to find the wrong ones. All for the sake that a "real hero's journey" requires a roundabout path in order to be entertaining. I think personality wise she's more dangerous than male merlin too.

Her gauge scaling up with levels is scummy, but at least she can use overcharge in her skill and CEs to alleviate it somewhat. They did the same with Arucreid by making her damage mod scale with level too, so this may be an unfortunate new practice.

Technically, she's not the first servant to pretend to be a Summer Servant. That honor goes to Oda Nobukatsu and his 2nd Ascension.

I don't understand what's so bad, np5 definitely isn't needed for her to be a good unit and if someone's willing to np5 a unit they deserve to get something better than an overcharge they never end up using anyway

Personal Experience: a lot of hours and 1200 dollars later and I realized how much this game is made for pay to play comparatively. After playing princess connect for a year and a half now I've spent only $100 and I'm now on the top tier of players. Fgo has made it clear that tight moon is very strongly supported by its community however the is been clear with games like Arcade that content is really made for people to spend on microtransactions and gambling which I had a clear problem with it. Japan's culture is very different and arcade gaming is very popular so I understand the demand and supply for it however it is clear that it is far more leaned towards money spenders then people just enjoying the game. I personally can't even keep up with the game because XP for characters is the hardest thing they get even after this update and the time that I have to spend the grind is a third on my other games which for someone with a full-time job makes it difficult to actually complete full event and sometimes even reached to The limited Time characters and even with the new updates the lack of saints quartz that I have had since I started playing comparatively to other games premium currency the aforementioned princess connect it is very hard for me to want to keep playing. TL;DR FGO is bad for your heart and your wallet. But Raikou is mommy.

I don’t think I’ll go for her even tho I’m very glad she’s in the game because Ibuki and Skadi are right around the corner and I’ll prolly be drained from Arc

CQs make a small margin of the game and the only time castoria loses in CQs is unless you’re just bringing a double castoria set up but even then you still have better replacements for that second slot

Even Merlin NP/Turn is 5%, wdym with not F2P Friendly?

But you see, the thing is Merlin's NP/turn always lasts 5 turns and its unaffected by np level. With Proto-Merlin, her NP/turn is 5% but it can go up to 10% depending on her np level. Her NP/turn is also only 3 turns, so most of the time you will only get up to 15% with her at np1 compared to always getting up to 25% with regular np1 Merlin

I'm looking forward to Summer Skadi ...Yeah, appearance-wise, she looks amazing

in all honesty Proto Merlin is not really meant for F2P stuff where she buffs Arts + Crit servants instead of being Castoria 2.0. ST and CQs will be her forte.

The sad part is that, I think Skadi will be an attacker and not a support

I am pretty sure most ppl are gonna NP5 her anyways, so I think they made it scaled like that just to make them happier when they NP5 her lmao.

Lasengle has been pushing incentives for whales for a while, Coin system is the biggest bait, idk maybe because they added pity(a horrible one tho) makes them think they need to milk some money from other sources now? Also I've seen people say she's bad or smth because "worse than castori" but cmon, every servant is worse than castoria

Bruh even for this year's anniv, everyone got sq according to the amount of servants they final ascensioned, essentially rewarding even more to whales, smh

@@alectos Except it hardly rewards whales at all. Just think. If you got all 900+ SQ from final ascensions as a whale, how much quartz did you spend to get all those servants. No one is rolling for limited/gacha servants to get their 3 SQ 'bonus' for getting them to final ascension because basically every servant is going to cost you more than 3 quartz to roll.

Going to be an ez skip for me. No point on getting her when her buffs scale on np lvls.

For the NP, the 2,000 max hp difference and 15% np gauge difference really doesn't seem like a big deal to me. Considering that she's an Arts support and will already be paired with servants like Paracelsus, Xu Fu, and/or Castoria, the Arts dps in question should be able to get enough refund to make the NP level difference unimportant. That, and she will be using her NP frequently due to her passives and her third skills self battery.

Good to know what I need to know about Proto Merlin. Honestly after Arc I'm glad this summer's mid to me except for merlin. All the year has been like that I think so I got SQ saved for this in a few years. Skadi has no choice but to somehow help NP gain unlike what her OG did with only her NP battery being the most relevant otherwise Quick loses again.

I don't think her having an actual use for extra NP copies makes her f2p unfriendly. She has an extremely good NP at NP1 and there are some benefits to having her at higher NP levels like for most other servants. You're still probably better off investing in your favorite looper imo.

NP1 works just fine, tbh. NP2 or higher would be nice to counter drains, but it's not a must. The difference is a bit too small to make a huge impact.

I love them trying to create new things but i just hope that they don’t go too far and make FGO become P2W

It's not even competitive. You cant call a non competitive game as p2w.

I'm not that upset about the np charge per turn being tied to NP levels. Since offensive servants also sometimes need higher NP levels to just hit hard enough. And it isn't even that new a move for supports. Originally you basically needed to NP5 Miyu to try and limit how horrible that demerit she had was. It didn't really work, but it was still pretty necessary. Still don't really love it though. Honestly not that hyped about this summer event. Even with (not really a summer servant) Proto Merlin added to the mix. She is fine. Just not interested in whaling for her. Honestly I'm not that hyped about many of the JP servants that have come out this year. It's been pretty bleak for me.

I guess na players have time to save for np5 at least. Still kinda dirty

IMO Proto Merlin is not an Arts Support, but an all rounder support, pretty much like Merlin. Sure, Merlin can make buster servants do a lot of damage, but he can be used as a Quick, Arts or Buster support effortlessly. Proto Merlin does something like that, but enabling a 500% OC NP for the last servant on a 3 NP chain. If you needed Himiko to fire her NP and do that for you, now you have a servant that will do with her second skill. Just imagine a servant that buffs himself or herself with a +quick/buster/arts/NP damage/attack hitting those NP 500% OC. They will hit even harder.

People telling tamamo is dead when she can go nicely with merlin

I don't see the issue at all with the NP...? You're mad that the np gain is scaling when its literally the same number as Merlin's NP. Only Lady Avalon's can be higher? Shes fine as she is as NP1. No incentive especially if you have other supports like castoria as well. Not to mention, Lady Avalon can get her NP up faster due to her skills and passive, so you can stack the effect.

I thought she was gonna be a new Buster support but IG Arts is just too dominant of a Meta

i mean, buster has himiko, merlin, koyanskaya, oberon, nightingale, chen gong and shakespeare buster doesnt really need supports, they have plenty of strong options

Ruler Skadi has to swoop in to save quick it’s lookin grim out there even with the new changes to it , fingers crossed
