Chris and Maryanne...sorry my spelling may not be accurate. Since you already are in India...maybe you can drive to Pakistan next. In the northern part of Pakistan, three mountain ranges converge and there are many beautiful valleys, lakes, glaciers, etc. And from the northern border with China, central Asian countries are within a days drive. Maybe there's a special visa just to drive from that border to a central Asian country! Also central Pakistan, such as, city of Lahore has a lot of Mughal history and architecture. Near Rawalpindi are old ruins of Harappa with Buddhist stupas, etc. I think you might enjoy the country's diversity and hospitality.

My late husband visited Mumbai and Delhi frequently back in the early 2000's. He was jarred by the disparity between the wealthy and the poor. There didn't seem to be any middle class . The people he encountered were always polite and helpful, but the cities were extremely chaotic. Best of luck navigating that madness

If you say so. I live in India but travelled in Europe quite often. Places can be beguiling. I had been pickpocketed in Paris CDG and Rome terminii station. Then last month my camera a canon 90D with a 1500€ lens got stolen in an ICE train enroute to Mulhouse and Freiburg . The backpack was intact , camera alone was missing, found out because of the loss in weight. The skill istoo good. So in a pretty decent train , hardly populated we get robbed. So no point just pointing, you have to look at the whole picture. @@phuketexplorer
Kolkata is such an engaging city, great food and it seems each street has some interesting historical architecture.
I kept checking your purse & pockets - looking for the stealthy hand of a pickpocket. It looks like you have things pretty well secured. Im amazed that such a poor area uses so many flowers. Here flowers are a rare indulgence unless we grow them ourselves. Im afraid I'd have to have some chai tea. The Byriani & bread looked great!

Interesting to see those yellow Hindustan Ambassador taxis. Apparently they were still making them up to 2014.
A bit disappointed at the many negative comments regarding India. I suspect these are people who aren't too adventurous or go off the beaten path much. Thanks for showing me parts of Kolkata that I missed when I was there. I have to admit that the chaos and poverty of some places got to me during my visit, but the energy and spirit are inspiring. I will definitely be back. Safe travels. Driving in Kolkata is not for the faint hearted 🫡. Do try the chicken rolls sold in street side stalls in and around Park Street.
Looks like your back in the UK 😂
Just make sure trudy's horn work's, I've commented before it the roundabouts that are crazy, safe travels.🇬🇧🇬🇧
