Yess! I have this card for a few months and been traveling alot. Most if not all my travel plans were booked thru the c1 portal and I never had any issues. Flights, car rentals, and hotels alike, everything went smoothly. Car rentals were with hertz and some ppl said hertz doesn’t honor status if you booked thru portal which is not true to my case. Prices can be juiced up but they arent as high as chase/amex since i have their cards too so c1 portal is pretty competitive with booking direct.

Hey john can you go a bit more into detail about the buying a gift card and then using them to purchase money orders? Like how did they help you reach your first 1 million points?

Love my VX! Traveling to Greece this summer in Business class for my honeymoon, thanks to the VX! Also really hope they continue to open lounges! All the ones they have opened so far are amazing, so much better than centurion. Hope the Las Vegas lounge doesn’t take forever!

I love my VX. Thanks for this video! It also reminded me that Dulles International Airport (IAD), has a capital one longue. Funny enough, I just came from IAD but totally forgot about the longue. I'll keep this in mind for next time!

flight and airline price match is in the form of travel portal credit. Currency also has to be in USD which can be a challenge if booking certain foreign carriers that don’t have the currency toggle immediately available. A good feature to have nonetheless

It's my favorite card, and the C1 lounge in DC-Dulles is excellent.

I love the venture X, I feel like you also need to mention the savor one to form the unbeatable Duo. 3% on Dining, Groceries and Streaming, nothing ..... I mean nothing is better than the DUO.

Ditto! Im intrigued! Sounds like you used your VX card to buy things that had a cash value (gift cards and money orders) and then collected miles for those purchases. Essentially converting your credit for "cash" rather than credit for "stuff". Does this sound about right?

Do you have a video to walk through the miles transfer to British Air and booking process to book world partner flights. And which transfer partners gives the most value for Venture X miles?

John, great video. I appreciate all the info you provide. Honestly, I don't think that using the $300 travel credit is all that difficult. I used it once on a car rental through the portal and it worked out really well. Bonus, the extra money I spent above $300 gave me 10x points. I would have paid cash for the car rental so the $300 plus the points was definitely a nice bonus. Maybe not the best use of the credit, but free is free IMO. Totally agree this card will remain in my wallet for a long time.

Can you take ur chase UR pts, transfer them to a transfer partner account say American Airlines, then also transfer pts from the VX to the same American Airlines account?

Just use the same one-way strategy to get home. I don't think many creators on KZread would use travel portals

@johnsfinancetips I recently got myself chase sapphire reserve and also got the sign on bonus. The capital X cards seems the better option now. Should I switch over? And if so, how do I take the mode value out of the points I now have on the reserve?

So I just completed the chase trifecta and was deciding what to go for next. The Amex gold or the VX? I already have the savor one too. Food is my #1 spend however. And I don’t really travel much maybe only 1-3 times a year. But the VX is looking really good to me. Can’t decided which one to pick

Hi John! I could use your input for the following: my significant other and I want to start taking advantage of points and traveling. We do not share our finances. When we travel we usually each pay for our half. For example if I pay $2000 for our plane tickets. He will pay me $1000 back. This is going to be tricky when we start using points since it will not be a simple dollar amount anymore and we can not really “pay” each other with points. Any suggestions on how to take advantage of points in this situation?

I've been contemplating booking flights through a credit card's travel portal. Other than the price match issue, are there any other disadvantages for booking through a travel portal vs. directly with the carrier? Are you still able to select seats, etc? I just have a fear of booking elsewhere and ending up sitting next to the rear lavatory...

not getting perks you might get with a card from that airline or hotel. not earning status at a hotel or airline. and many report issues if they have changes, cancelations, delays or other traveling issues when going through a portal.

I’m known to yolo here and there but booking flights on a travel portal is living far too dangerously for me.

Terminal 7 United flights get no lounge access. Priority pass is no good here. I mostly fly United out of LA. Let’s see if my connecting flight in SFO fairs better. And I know there is no line access in Redmond Oregon. 1/3 would be nice.

Choosing between VX and CSR. I wanted a good travel card that is widely accepted by merchants internationally. I went to Egypt and people did not want to take my Amex. Is Capital One widely accepted? Everyone takes Visa…

I was satisfied with my Venture. Got the Venture X last year and will be happily paying the annual fee again. With spending and bonuses I earned 300,000 miles last year.

I have the venture card but cap 1 said id more than likely be able to upgrade in a year. The signup bonus was a breeze to meet...also, its a metal card (for those who care). I don't care about that but when using mother cards thru feel so cheap in comparison

They should get rid of unlimited PP guests, and max out free cardholders to 3-5 and keep Hertz Presidents Circle Just so useful

The only issue is that it is nearly impossible to get if you have good credit and more than a couple of cards.

Does this card have any travel insurance? I didnt see any listed as a benefit of the card on their website. Nerd wallet says they do, but that might be out of date and the insurance didnt seem as good as other cards.

Yes, it has travel insurance. That's better than most since this is a Visa Reserve credit card

I will say, 2 out of the 3 times I’ve tried using priority pass to enter a club they said they were at capacity and not letting anyone in with priority pass

Price match doesn’t work with Chase travel portal - I am traveling to Colombia and the ticket were $100 dollars less in Avianca than Chase travel portal. (buying 3 tickets x $100=$300) I called chase to price match and they don’t do it. If you are in tie budget, you need to think, take the $300 less or take the points to be use, who knows when. What a disappointment!, Starting with the points system is not easy journey.

I love the Venture X card. I am coming up on my first year and I am going to renew in June.

I’m renewing only because they (smartly) give u no reason to cancel. It’s a net $0 af that gives primary car rental insurance. I put basically, I put 2 charges on it a yr.

No matter what, C1VX is the easiest luxury card to justify its value.

It does, but it is worse than before. You now don't earn points on that $300 spent. And previously, you could cancel the flight and keep the $300 credit.

On the Singapore Airlines example, you said you can transfer points to Air Canada to book the flight. I noticed that Singapore Airlines itself is a Capital One transfer partner. Are there any additional benefits to transferring points to Air Canada instead of transferring points directly to Singapore Airlines?

There’s no time limit, just as long as your top spending is gas for that statement period then you will receive the cash back. So for example, I use my custom cash strictly on all purchases at universal studios to get 5% back on their entertainment category.

I’m assuming to get the bonuses. Purchasing, let’s say $4000 worth of gift cards, utilizing a money order to put the money from the gift cards back in his bank. He relatively loses nothing because I think money orders are less than a dollar each. So now he’s spent the money necessary for the credit card point bonuses, but didn’t actually lose money. All in his goal to reach 1M points.

It's a 2x Cap1 portal card... nothing more😎. Imo, not in the same league as the CSR and very diff from the Plat.

IMO C1 VX is the best travel card for normal people, more so now that CSR/ritz doesn’t allow PP restaurants. I just booked my first ever business flight on Singapore airlines with my C1 miles through Aeroplan and got 4.2 cpp. Although that’s nice, imo it’s not as good as the 3.4 cpp I got for economy on Cathay Pacific through Alaska before the recent devaluation 😂

Not necessarily, if you plan way out into the future, like 11 months or 12 months, there is a lot of seat award availability. You do not have be so flexible in that time frame. Seat award availability is out there posted somewhere 350 days or so ahead of time. So plan accordingly.

Why is it so hard to get approved for this card when you have multiple cards? I keep getting denied saying i have too many rotating cards. But yet i see all these card guys getting approved. My score stays above 780, so thats not the issue

Where is the Capital One lounge in BOS? When will C1VX Personal have Priority Pass restaurants? Bringing back Hertz President's Circle elite status in 2025? When can C1VX customer use the $300 travel coupon like the CSR travel stipend? Avoid the C1 OTA for $300 travel coupon.

I have venture x and let me tell you that price match, is not easy as is sounds lol. If the operartor says "i cant find it" you wont get price matched lol. I offered to send the link to them, they say they cant accept links. The flight must be searchable by them and it should be should directly by the carrier. If it is flight from a search engine like booking or kayak forget about it😂 As long as they claim, they can't find them😂 there is no price match.

I would apply if my credit score was higher. It’s increased 3 points since November, no clue why it won’t grow even though I follow the steps to increase my score

Just applied for this card and canceled my Amex platinum 💯👍

That’s what I have and can’t justify upgrading to the x. If you’re not booking everyone through the portal (which I don’t) it just doesn’t seem worth it to me. I have other reward programs I use

Is it smart to get the Venture One to unlock the 20,000 sign up bonus, and then get the venture X to unlock the 75,000 sign up bonus? Basically using the venture one card to obtain that a sign up bonus

Not at all considering you can only hold one "venture" card

i got the great value of this card which is the just VENTURE not the X. lol. that was the easiest 20,000 points to earn ever. all i had to spend is $500 and i got 20,000 i knock that benefit out in 1 week.

@johnsfinancetips , you never ever provided any information about credit cards which provide domestic and international lounge access for free for the card holder and spouse of the card holder. Please make a video of such cards, maybe in budget yearly fees or free cards :P

I don't think a card like that exists. You need to pay annual fee to get better benefits. The US Bank Altitude Connect seems best for you.

Capital One just added 5x for Capital One entertainment and dining.

Who said it was number one in 2022 and 2023?

14:36 John mentions he is guilty of money laundering aka MS (manufactured spending). Not recommended unless you want points clawed back and your credit cards cancelled. Crime means time. Banks are cracking down.

Calling in for price matching and when it’s over $50 they’re transferred the call to their supervisor. The supervisor was tricky and a cheater big time. It was almost $100 the difference and she said only $30. I didn’t have too much time so I just took it. Be careful with those blood suckers.

I think he was doing something called manufactured spending
