------------
In this Broadcast Award-winning, BAFTA and Emmy Award-nominated entertainment show, Taskmaster tyrant Greg Davies (Man Down, Cuckoo), with the help of his loyal assistant Alex Horne (The Horne Section and the show’s creator), sets out to test the wiles, wit and wisdom of five hyper-competitive comedians.
Comedians that have risked life, limb, and dignity in the hope of making the Taskmaster proud so far include: Frank Skinner (The Frank Skinner Show), Mel Giedroyc (The Great British Bake Off), Romesh Ranganathan (Asian Provocateur), Hugh Dennis (Outnumbered), Sally Phillips (Bridget Jones’ Diary), Rose Matafeo (Edinburgh Comedy Award Winner 2018), and Russell Howard (The Russell Howard Hour). Unaware of what awaits them in each wax-sealed envelope, only one competitor can become the victorious owner of His Royal Task-ness’ golden head and be crowned the next Taskmaster Champion.

    I feel like Greg realised how badly he screwed over Phil in the first two tasks so tried to give him as many points as possible after that, he even let Phil off the hook for breaking a glass as it wasn't a 'pair of glasses', when usually the contestant themself would have to contest that in order to circumvent the rules. It's also possible Greg gave the men's team a sympathy point since the ladies had the advantage due to being professional actresses, in the most recent series Sarah Millican was given the win in a musical task even though it was clear she was bad at singing, while actual musician Munya Chawawa scored low.

    @@showme2theexit They did argue that there are 50 different things of the same kind but that was weak. On that line of thinking what did they worry about? That the contestants would put one thing in, take it out, put it back in and so on 50 times? Of course it's a fake game show but it's supposed to be unscrpted. I don't like it when it becomes too obvious it's fake. I like to pretend it's a competition and they don't decide who will be the winner from the beginning of each episode and of the whole show. I love the show. The only reason I'm complaining even a little bit is because I enjoy watching it as a genuine competition.

    @@itsokay7989 "he either misses the point, or is too on point and misses that its a show about creativity" I would argue that his "G Key" was - by far and away - the most creative entry for the prize task, yet he was given second last. Phil is literally the only person who followed the rules for the 50 things task, yet he came last. - Most seasons, there is a pretty clear example of someone who Greg unfairly punishes. I don't really mind that much - this show never even attempts to portray itself as fair - but it's definitely wrong to make out like those who do poorly are being punished fairly. Phil deserves many more points than he is getting. And by that same token, Rhod doesn't deserve nearly as many as he gets. I'm enjoying watching Rhod, but the clear and blatant favoritism he's receiving is plain to see.

    @@itsokay7989 except its sometimes not specifically stated whether a task is about creativity or being literal - I just felt that when the task was ambiguous and Phil was creative then someone else was given more points because Greg felt a certain way and for some tasks when Phil took it seriously and literally then the task was won by someone else on the basis of creativity. Greg is arbitrary and I get it that that's the fun bit but that doesn't mean that I can't have an opinion about it. It makes for great laughs but I can still get annoyed at somethings and thats why I love this series, its equal parts frustrating and hilarious. Also, Phil isn't shit.

    The absolute insanity of this gang is what makes series 7 one of the best, if not the best so far in terms of entertainment. Especially Rhod and James are just off the hook. About the "bias" towards Rhod by Greg: I dont think its actually Greg's bias, but that Rhod just knows him very well and knows what Greg will either like or find funny. @@neilgooner26 Massively. I adore Series 7, but it's always tough to rewatch it knowing how often the show dumps on Phil, and how mean-spirited it all seems for really no reason. It'd be one thing if it were Rhod, who constantly needles and tries to embarrass Greg. But it almost seems like Greg has a vendetta against Phil for some reason, and it leaves a sour taste in my mouth in an otherwise sterling season of TV.

    @@stephendavis6267 Greg picks one contestant to pick on every series (out of the 7 i've watched so far). Giving them last place in the subjective tasks nearly every time. Romesh, Joe, Paul, Hugh, Mark, Asim, and now Phil. I think it ads a level of expected humour to the show, although it can seem mean spirited at times.

  • @stephendavis6267

    @stephendavis6267

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@Threadoflength Not exactly the same, and here's why: 1. Romesh came second overall in his series; even if he never got to win an episode, and even though Greg picked on him a lot, he still did very well in the actual tasks themselves. He only lost because Josh Widdecombe got the bonus point for his solo counting task. 2. Joe barely put a lot of effort in several of his tasks. Greg picking on him was justified (and hilarious) because Joe obviously knew he hadn't done well in most of them, which is why it was great whenever he would succeed ("There's strength in arches!") 3. Paul was kind of like Joe in that there were times it didn't feel like he put a lot of effort in, particularly in terms of the prize tasks, but his demeanor made him the perfect person from the season to pick on. Besides, he was also on a series with Dave, who cheated constantly, and Al, who used money to solve a lot of his problems, so it felt like there was a balance there. 4. Hugh is interesting because he actually tried to outfox the game, and Greg wasn't having it. I do feel he was unfairly judged on a few of the prize tasks, but beyond that (and a few token age gags), it never felt like Greg was picking on him personally. 5. Mark got picked on more because of his relationship with Alex and his awkwardness, but it was Nish who was the real punching-bag of the series. 6. This entire series is weird because I feel that no one got unnecessarily picked on, but Liza Tarbuck was weirdly favored at times that I don't feel was deserved. But that's an argument for another day. Problem is, everyone listed above, it all felt like it was in the spirit of the show and we could see why they were picked on. Romesh's anger, Joe's laziness, Paul's sedate nature, Hugh's age, Mark's awkwardness . . . but it feels different with Phil. It would be one thing if Rhod or even James were penalized because of their playful feuds with Greg and Alex, respectively, but Phil winds up getting docked for seemingly no reason. He gets his bonus point for his prize task removed, given a token point because he actually made the effort of gathering fifty different items, his Greg portrait wasn't all that bad (but I'll grant that it's all subjective), and there are several other points in the show where it just feels like they're picking on him, and by the end of it, it doesn't seem like Phil is having fun at all. Certainly, Greg realized this after the fact, stating that he felt he wronged Phil more than any other contestant, but it still doesn't help.
