Yeah people praise the crap out of the interrogator and I’m not saying that isn’t warranted, but the investigation was so solid up until that point, that he really had no option to keep denying it. The tire tracks alone would’ve been enough to get a warrant for his footwear (assuming he’d not worn the murder boots to the police station). They most likely had the search warrants already for his home and office and vehicle, before he even walked in the door. It’s easy for cops to get search warrants in Canada. And Smyth was the lead detective on the case, so he still gets props for the investigation. No matter how the interrogation went, good ole Russ wasn’t going home that night or any night for the rest of his life.

But to walk into a police station wearing the same boots you used during a crime for an interview was an absolute gift to the detectives. A strange case.

I was beaten as a kid alot by my step father. My parents divorced when I was young and my father died when I was a kid too. But I never hurt anyone. I don't hit my kids and my husband and I have been married for nearly 20 yrs. Just coz someone has a shitty childhood doesn't mean they will be a killer. We cannot do much about our childhoods but once adults you do have control.

You are very fortunate. This is true. It’s an age old discussion, nature vs nurture. We’re they driven insane or have they acted on their own volition? I didn’t have the most stable of childhoods either, and I also have never hurt anyone or anything. However, I believe I had good key people in my life who were integral to my progression, and had they not by luck or coincidence been there, I am not sure the outcome would have been the same. Life is an ever evolving logistical puzzle.

Im sure its going to his wife at the end of the day. His crimes really are unrelated to his pension so why would it not go to his family if anything. Its money he worked for regardless of if he is evil or not so of course it would go to his family that is also screwed over by his actions. And families can file wrongful death suits if they wish to pursue compensation.

ive watched many videos about serial killers and the stories of the poor victims, but i have never burst into tears like i did when i heard the words of that poor woman after she had been beaten and raped for hours. the saddest thing to have your life end after hours of constant trauma, pain and sadness, all at the hands of someone else. so sad.

I think he is sorry and disappointed that he got caught. Not for what he did. Or else they wouldn't be 2 dead. He basically enjoyed what his doing in the dark.

He confessed because there’s no denying what he done , he wore the same boots to the police station that he wore when killing one of his victims. He may have been “very smart” but he was more than stupid on this occasion , and I can safely say you are probably not the brightest person yourself 😂👍.

Your reply shows that I know more about this case than you do. He could have chosen to stop talking and asked for a lawyer. He could be making snuff films for other people. Some of the details from two years prior are too fishy. Something doesn't add up about the victim's brother background and body language. It's not a simple case. He's not alone. That is horrific... usually they seem fairly dimwitted or just are incapable of empathy, but he seems like he’s intelligent and slightly remorseful. In a way that makes him the most despicable kind of person you can be.

Notice at 2:49 he answers the question of whether he liked or disliked the two women he was accused of killing, "I didn't know any of them." That makes me think there are more them two, because otherwise he would have said 'I didn't know either of them.' I hope they keep hammering him about other victims. What does he have to lose, since he's locked up for life? He could do some good for the loved ones of any other victims, if there are others.

A staff member at my school was one of his victims mother. I remember seeing the missing posters of her daughter and seeing her heartbreak with what she went through. It is one of the defining moments of my childhood, experiencing true evil in the world. I always looked up to several of my family members who were in many branches of the Canadian forces. There is evil everywhere and that is scary to think of but there is hope when you think of the wonderful people who outnumber the bad ones

I think a lot has to do with childhood experiences. Iam not making excuses but saying what I believe. I'm an older adult that went thru years of abuse as a child and have never had a normal relationship. Experiences we have when young does help to form who we become.

Something in his childhood triggered a sexual titillation when it came to hiding and sneaking and taking what didn't belong to him. He was rejected by one girlfriend in college and perhaps that led to his need to take things from these other women, and eventually rape and kill them. He was driven to it by lust and a deep emptiness in his heart. It's so important not to let your head and heart become taken over by sick and evenly thoughts. Demons, if you will, can possess you.

What's your point? Do you have any idea if he was EVER involved in a violent military action, he was an air transport pilot? This is the first sexual killer, I have ever read about who was in the military while all those who were mentioned had never been involved in any kind of military service.
