    omg he is absolutely extraordinary, men of his caliber come along once in a generation, he is a rare breed of ballet dancer. there was a few men who were bestowed the honor of being called the greatest ballet dancer ever, But some have sadly passed away. Sergei is this Era's and generation's, greatest ever ballet dancer living today. He is simply the best ballet dancer of the 21st century. I'm honored to have witness the true amazement of Sergei Polunin. He deserves all the adulation because he is like a dinosaur, newly discovered human species, a once in a life time performer and rare breed of ballet dancer you don't see.

    When you think of dancing, most people might think of a lady dancer. The female body has such a graceful and beautiful quality to it, it fits together with almost any form of dance as if it were two pieces of a puzzle. But, seeing this video, this amazing man’s control over his body, his balance, his grace, his beauty, it changed my mind. When I hear a song and picture a little dancer in my head, perhaps I will envision a lovely and strong dancer much like Sergei Polunin...

    He is an astonishing dancer, & as one person noted below, he has such amazing lines! At 60, & trained in ballet, Ive never seen such elevation & extension. As others have noted, he “becomes” dance, the male form of the verb. There is a quality of masculinity in his movement Ive not encountered before. Highly erotic yet fully contained, it’s a joy to watch him dance, particularly solo, as in this vid & Take Me To Church. I hope to see much more of this dancer!

    I've seen a lot if dancers in my 57 years...this young man is up there with Baryshnikov. Mikhail had mega power when he started to dance. This young man's lines are superior. he also shows more passion. explosive performance. I wonder what Baryshnikov thinks?

  • @nettwench

    @nettwench

    7 жыл бұрын

    To me he's as great as Baryshnikov, it's such a thrill to watch him dance. I saw Peter Martins and Alexander Godunov on stage which was one of the highlights of my life, they were both on Barishnikov's level though not quite as famous. I'm old enough to have also seen Nureyev, they used to have him on television back in the day, like on the Ed Sullivan Show, where you could see all kinds of things. Sergei is something special. He has perfection, technique, passion and emotive ability. The whole package. He reminds me of Peter Martins who was long and lean like he is, Baryshnikov is shorter in stature. But all of these men were/are absolutely beautiful. Every great dancer has their own personality.

    I love this performance even better than the one he danced to 'Take Me to Church'. I so much wish for Sergei Bolunin to stick to his guns and follow his pathway according to his inner truth and ... gut feeling! There has never been an artist and dancer with so many opportunities to take. If only he can become his inner demons best friend and confederate. May he be blessed on every day of his life!

  • @italianpixie

    He is sticking to his guns and doing it Angel! He just did Polunin Project at the Saddlers Wells in England and this was his project with even some of his choreography. He had the dancers sit in while the score was being recorded. He is indeed making ballet more widely recognized in the world, starting a foundation for dancers to revolutionize themselves to have more freedom. Since he fell in love he's healed a lot, and is growing so much. It's a joy to see this ethereal angel at work with his spirit intact.

    Polunin could be the apex dancer, where the evolution of the male dancer has been leading. expressive, powerful, incredibly masculine but with the fine tuned finesse we are used to ascribing to ballerinas. the bend of the wrist, the curve of the arm, the absolute perfectly subtle tilt of the head. he has the beautiful face, the perfect dancer's physique. not too tall, not too short, not too bulky. i would love to see what tutoring by baryshnikov could produce. where absolute and total commitment to ballet could go. the male dancer has such a short time to be at the top of his game. Polunin's top could be what all other male dancers work towards being in the future. time will tell if in 20 years, 40 years, we compare young men to Polunin. like we have compared the recent generations to baryshnikov. i hope so. the potential for greatness exists. he is on the cusp.

    Theres not really a written down reason why men don’t go en pointé. Since ballet is the oldest running dance in the world, back im the days it was very important that men were masculine and women feminine. Pointé shoes make the dancer look elegant and like they’re floating. The shoes are simply too beautiful for men to wear in the world of ballet. Plus, the shoes are so narrow that they fit female feet way better.
