I don’t know why people doubted Serena. Naomi beat her while she was still breast feeding her baby. She was barely cleared from maternity and she got to the finals of a grand slam. It only takes time and Serena knew that from the beginning. With more matches and continued training Serena can and will win many more slams and WTA titles.

I hope everyone can now see what it looks like to play Serena playing at her confident best. Serena is fitter and playing better, she needed this win and she earned it. I'm glad she's lost to her twice so that forced her to be focused and play well as Naomi was so respectful and focused in their two previous matches. And no Naomi didn't play badly, Serena was able to do what her mind needed to do and in her previous matches, her body was still recovering from child birth and relearning tennis.

Clear biases "fan" type comments. The actual facts show Serena ahs lost in GS finals, SF, QF, 4R, etc to other players throughout her career. Let's identify a few GS matches, before and without any health or 'fitness' issues. 2016 AO F vs Angelique Kerber 2016 RG-FO F vs Garbiñe Muguruza 2015 USO SF vs Roberta Vinci 2013 AO QF vs Sloane Stephens 2011 USO F vs Samantha Stosur 2009 USO SF vs Kin Clijsters 2008 Wimbledon F vs Venus Williams 2004 Wimbledon vs Maria Sharapova 2004 USO QF vs Jennifer Capriati adding 2019 Wimbledon F vs Simona Halep [since Serena was playing, moving well, as she is here (she was significantly outplayed, though not reach past level, still, yet, perhaps)] list yet incomplete. look on her biography for complete history. There are periods time of her career she has significant number of GS wins and other major tournaments too. There are periods of struggle also. There are sections of breaks from injury or heath [embolism] and recovery. If no one on the WTA during any of these time periods came close to Serena, then she would have won every tournament. But, it did not, nor does not happen for any player or person, not in any sport. During certain periods she is extremely difficult to match or defeat. Currently, she struggles, and shows some of her greatness. This tournament she has shown both weakness, struggles, overcoming and greatness. We will see what level she plays in the final as will Bianca. Hopefully it will be a good match, with both showing high level through out. Let's see. Sincerely, :-) Naomi was not on her best in this match, partially from Serena too, though she did not play badly, just not the level we have seen she does attain.

@@VaynardMaynard38 We both watched it live, but took different things out of it. Did Serena play great? Yes. Did Serena impose her game? Yes. Did Osaka play aggressively? No. You could literally hear Osaka and the commentators talk about her hesitance with missing in the wind and Serena serving well. Serena may have won in the end, but Osaka was definitely tentative. The stats speak for themselves, especially for such a big power player like Osaka. With Osaka still maturing and Serena near the end of her career, the former will nab some more wins.

Spoiled and not willing to work hard to maintain her success, which shows with how she aproaches the questions about what's going on. I can't support someone who would rather chill than train hard and have desire to be a champ. Not in the sports, at least, which is by nature a competitive job. She has won 2 GS, but it's a shame she'll be remembered as a wasted potential, unless she shanges her mindset.

chrisak49, I notice that also. Has she lost some weight because she is moving so much better and appears her conditioning is improving...which is a good sign for the US Open. I hope she can get this win at the US Open and be in the best shape going into 2020.

All Serena's haters came out to see this match. They have always prayed for it. They wished to see her lose to Naomi to ignite their previous hate comments from the US open and continue to demonize a woman who has given her heart to the sport of tennis. A true legend. Oh Serena how you make your haters swallow the toxins in their own words. Today was a defeat against your haters and all those who prayed to see you lose to Naomi again. Serena has done it all and if you truly are a fan of tennis, you would have nothing but admiration for this woman who at 38 continues to dominate women's tennis.

@@josephjames3838 Okay, let us stay on 37. 37 is not a sporting age in tennis. At 37 most top professionals are relegated to lower divisions or retired. Mama is still kicking and showing up to almost every finals since she had a near-death surgical operation. Are you duffing your hat as You read this? Sloane, keys, Sharapova, Azarenka, Muguruza and etc are all years younger but not at Serena's level of play. You just have to give it to her.

I think the key to this match was that Serena was calm and played with the correct ratio on aggression - patience... even though Serena was not 100% fit in Miami last year( clearly a factor in that loss) and not fit/match tough or mentally in New York final... it is clear that there was much to take away from those two matches in terms of learning and those lessons well clearly put into practice today which enabled her to win in straight sets. This calmness also enabled her to step it up on her serve with 12 aces (on extremely windy day)... something that was evidently missing on her previous two matches with Osaka Was the serve, missing through fitness panic and non-clarity. This match will definitely help her to gain confidence and reinforce that she is playing her best when she is as she says RELEXED! Go Serena
