Vinci proved the USO crowd wrong later that year.

The Wimbledon crowd are so racist. I will always remember the way they treated Serena during this match and in her match against Heather Watson. They’d claim it’s because her opponents are underdogs or because Heather is British, but they’d never treat Federer with such disrespect or even Steffi Graf. They only reserve such clear hatred for Serena - a dark-skinned black woman from Compton.

Yet, Heather Watson´s not white, so it´s not all about color. Plus the Wimbledon crowd loves Venus. I think it´s got more to do with her tennis persona and style. Same thing for Djokovic.

EconCam8 yep, as Safina said, Serena is so incredibly good, that it's not enough for you to play your best, you also need serena's level to drop. Serena gave garbine a chance here by playing at her B game, but she didnt take the opportunity.

Probably one of her greatest victories. She was down a break in the 1st set and didn’t give up. Garbine was playing great but Serena just played better. #GOAT

Not only does Serena need to beat her clients - see needs to beat the crowd. I love Serena.

I also don't get why you always strive to start unnecessary arguments between Steffi Graf and Serena Williams fans. The truth of the matter is you can't change people's preferences, neither can they change yours. We can enjoy both great champions in peace. I dont think its really that the crowd is mad per say but more like they paid alot of money and just like a 5 hr match not a 95 min match.

This crowd was disgusting, racist and just horrible, I’m glad Serena won! Showed them!

She was playing her best in the years 2015-2017. The fell off a cliff in the second half of 2017 all the way to 2020 when she reach the AO final. Getting rid of her old coach and hiring conchita was long over due. She probably would have 3-4 slams by now if she replaced her old coach with Conchita in the end of 2017.
