That fast drum beat is a classic "Thrash beat", but you're just not into those beats Ryan, which is understandable. They're not meant to groove as much as they're meant to be fast and aggressive, and when they break back into the groove beats, they compliment and intensify each other. But being a Bay Area Thrash Metal drummer, I'm super happy you guys dig Thrash. 😁

First off, you guys do the best reviews! Hands down. This is my favorite Sepultura video, I had watched it two or three times before I realized that it was filmed here in Northern Arizona at ancient Anasazi sites, Wupatki, Montezuma's Well, Montezuma's Castle, etc. The Ancient Anasazi mysteriously disappeared from this area over 700 years ago. Some Navajo and Apache claim the Anasazi were wielders of magic. Sepultura pays homage to a lot of ancient cultures. This video shows quite a few of the Anasazi sacred sites.

Just to be clear I never said that grove is not good, there is so much groove in metal it's not even funny, by the way I play drums so I have to understand that. I'm just saying you have to lose it instead of trying to always be focused on it. Metal has a lot more groove than a lot of people understand and thrash is no exception. 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻

I have been a professional music critic for the past 20 years. Sadly I have become somewhat jaded for reasons unrelated to the actual music being produced. But watching your reactions to the music with which I grew up and how open/moved/impressed you are to/with it has reminded me of the transformative power that music can have, unequaled by any other art form. So now when I am feeling curmudgeonly, I come to your channel for a reboot. Thank you so much for that. Some suggestions: Necrophagist's "Stabwound"; Testament's "The New Order"; Annihilator's "Word Salad"; Voivod's "Tribal Convictions"; and, in a related change of pace, The Mahavishnu Orchestra's "Meeting Of The Spirits" (a jazz band that influenced much metal to follow).

Loved your video! Just a warning for you though...Sepultura is the gateway drug to "anemic" blast beats...you can see how the tempo changes in the song will eventually pull you into that transition as well. Another note...these guys did this in the 80s better than anyone else and they did it without having to tune down their guitars! Plus Igor Cavalera DESTROYS Lars Ulrich, there just is no comparison.
