- EDIT: Wtf did KZread do to the video, why does it look so badly compressed in places... - ORIGINAL: This is a art-house presentation-driven experience that I honestly found myself really captivated by despite its short runtime of 7 hours. It's also got some of the best graphics and visuals I've ever seen in a video game. Gameplay does lack depth and replayability, but this just felt like a different kind of video game and you can tell how much love and craftsmanship went into this game. I for one really appreciate what Ninja Theory have created here. Yah, based on my first 2hrs, this is a very accurate description. It’s almost doesn’t feel like a game. The gameplay amounts to being able to make your character walk around fairly restricted environments and the combat feels almost quick-timey. Like I was tempted to explore the environment, but after like 45 minutes I got the sense that there was no point in trying. Those criticisms aside, the visuals, sound, and performances are impressive in their own right and the experience so far has been simultaneously stunning and horrific.
@johnmaco

In my opinion, it's everything that's wrong in the gaming world today. The development focuses so much on graphics that it forgets that it is a video game and therefore should focus on gameplay instead. Like, it's not bad that there is a "game" like this from time to time, but it is worrying that the community, devs and shareholders think that this should be the new goal for all games from now on...

People playing games on a fricken 4090 should NEVER claim a game is well optimized just because they have high FPS... ESPECIALLY when they have DLSS and frame generation turned ON. You are only showing the fact that someone paid for your copy of the game with comments like that. Complete nonsense.
@matyboomstix

“It is well optimized. You just may need to upgrade your hardware” - Todd Howard (paraphrased). For me, with a 4070, it ran mostly at 80fps at 1440 with DLSS, but some I did have some noticeable dips/stutters. It’s not vey often, maybe 2-3 times an hour. It is noticeable, but to be fair, given how good the game looks, feels acceptable.

This is the type of game that is perfect for Game Pass. In game pass you don't need games that last dozens of hours, you want a variety of experiences. I mean Limbo and Inside were great on game pass because I could take a risk with playing them and then get hooked in. The way I think about it is you need things like Netflix has if you are trying to boost Game Pass. You need some big hitters, games with dozens of hours of play and big time multiplayer games but the way you encourage people to stay with the service month in and month out (rather than just buying the game they spend dozens of hours in) is to offer self contained short games that offer different experiences. You have a few big marquee games and then add smaller critical and cult games. Hellblade 2 is that kind of game. Plus it avoids the issue that is slowly killing off the sector which is the obsession with AAA.
@raven12333
Ай бұрын
Issue with this particular game is that it took almost 7 years to make for 5h of content. Same with price, no one would buy "walking simulator" with barely any gamplay for 50$ when cheaper games offer more. It is the most beautiful looking game right now, but in those 5 hours, there is barely any gameplay outside of walking. Even CGI movies take less time to make.
@lasskinn474
Ай бұрын
@@raven12333 it's a lot easier to cram in good visuals if the visuals act just a visual layer. the short gameplay time, lacking in 'gameplay' things, abrupt ending and such could be indicators of that they thought they had more time(or were just working on it without a deadline) and had to package it up. might check it out on gamepass if it's on pc gamepass. (it's actually artistically good to have deadlines rather than churn forever stuff tho, it's better if it's always known so the project can be designed within those limits)

You also need enough subscribers to make Game Pass viable. Considering subscriptions have plateaued, and taking into account that 70-billion-dollar hole in Microsoft's portfolio, Xbox leadership might want to consider abandoning a subscription-based model. Especially considering, unlike Netflix, Xbox's Game Pass doesn't have many _new_ exclusives drawing customers in. Netflix, at least, doesn't have to worry about creating first-party hits --- they can release a flop and make up the difference with 3rd-party IPs, effectively leaning on their market dominance --- but Xbox isn't even dominating the platform-based market right now. Steam, I'd argue, is in the lead, with Sony and Nintendo's storefronts trailing slightly behind. Meanwhile, because of Microsoft's lack of interest in innovation and new IPs, it seems as though the Xbox brand has been meandering for over a decade. I mean, what games, besides Hi-Fi Rush, have come out recently, compelling people to buy a Series X over, say, an Xbox One? Nothing, really. Just more Halo and Gears of War, which have stagnated, creatively, for years now, and Starfield is just a lousy excuse for software. Point being, in terms of the games industry, Xbox needs strong 1st-party titles on their platform to incentivize purchases. However, unfortunately, leadership hasn't built up the studios responsible for creating just that. Instead, they've allowed 343i to hemmorhage, they've all but deprioritized their Zenimax acquisition, and, now, their aim seems to be cutting costs for the sake of more big-budget Triple-A titles, i.e Halo, Gears, Fallout, Elder Scrolls, and CoD. Everything can take a walk, as far as Microsoft is concerned. Brand damage and devestments aside, there's also the issue of monthly Game Pass subscriptions not making as much money as a single purchase. Game Pass cuts into a game's total profit. Period. To make up the difference, you would need someone to subcribe for 2-7 months at a ten-dollar rate. This is precisely why many, including myself, believe the next Call of Duty isn't coming to Game Pass. Yeah, sure, we all know the real money is made through MTX sales in the in-game cash shop, but those initial one-time purchases still bring in a lot of revenue. Considering Microsoft is a publicly traded company, I'm not too sure the investors would be happy with an underperforming blockbuster release.

The Order 1886 used that same aspect ratio to be able to maintain 30fps back in like 2015, really makes you wonder... Also the combat not being improved from the first makes this not worth playing for me as that weighed down my whole experience. Definitely a huge letdown for me.
