Sennheiser MD441 U

Музыка

This week we're looking at one of the most expensive moving coil dynamic mics available today. The frequency range is closer to that of a condenser mic and features a set of controls to make the mic a real swiss army knife in the studio. We take the mic in the studio and put it through its paces with mics above and below its price point. One of my all time favorite mics... the Sennheiser MD441 U.
Thanks to ‪@drumagna‬ for demoing the snare and hat for us.

Been waiting for THIS one! I bought 6 of these brand-new a few years ago, and glad I did. such an amazing mic. like you mentioned, a lot of people don't take advantage of the filters (which was a selling point for me) great video (as always) nice use of the new Royer bar, btw...I just might get one of those. I have several of the Grace designs mic bars (highly recommended)

In just ‘fixed’ my MD 441 U by tightening that single screw. Amazed that it tightened up the whole mic! Now I know why. Nice review. I have started to use it a lot and find for certain vocals I love it over my AKG C414B/ULS. I like the way it handles plosives and sibilance. I’ve also used it for cab mic’ing and think I prefer it over the SM57. But, conventional wisdom tells me I need a ribbon mic to add to my locker!

You cant go wrong with a R121. Best ribbon mic ever imo. The 441 is probably the most perfect sounding dynamic on the market that Ive used (ive used a lot but not all of them still wanna hear a 224). And yea, having a single screw hold that entire mic together is nothing short of an engineering miracle. Insane design yet so efficient. Crazy. Thanks for checking it out!

I wasn't sure at first, but then the close ups were definitely Senn wacko mic clips, and I knew from the square shape and having just watched this video exactly what they were. kzread.info/dash/bejne/mIKo2s6EnbG7ds4.htmlsi=i3Ed33s5HI1Zkdco

I loved how it sounded on your voice. In the comparisons I liked it on the piano over the 47, and I liked it on electric over the 57. But I preferred the SM81 and M201 over this mic in those comparisons. Dave Rats video is so good. It made me pull the mic back out because I want to love it I just really don’t like the sound of it for me.

  • @meistudiony

I may have said it before, i think something isnt quite right with yours. Do the boost and low cut work? The mic should sound quite good on your voice. Ive seen things online where something dislodged inside the mic can cause a weird midrange and bottom end cut.

@@meistudiony do you think that semester would take the mic on for service and send a faulty unit back out? If so, I may have to get my hands on another one. Maybe I can get sennheiser to lend a brand new verified one out so I can do a re-review of it or at least determine if mine is busted.

  • @meistudiony

Yep... that one is harder to find than the D224! Theres a guy near me selling the D3400 (not 2 way) and your comment made me go back and look that up on CL. I was able to get my hands on a second D200E and i was able to test out the one that I have and looks like the only issue with either of them is the rubber that isolates the capsules from the body is just OLD and no longer provides the reduced handling noise it once did. Capsules are still working well though! I have an iron in the fire for a D224E, but we'll see how crazy people get with the price. Thanks for watching!

I guess the bass roll off is nice in a live situation. But with a nice preamp I don't think that mic is necessary if you already own similar microphones. If you own some U87, C414, Sm7b, sm57 etc. I don't think this is necessary. Now if have no mic this will cover many sources indeed

  • @meistudiony

Dont discount the use of the rolloff in the studio. I used to use this mic for snare and rolling off the bottom effectively mitigated the kick drum bleed where i didn't have to deal with much in post. When this mic came out it was in a class almost by itself. Now a days... yeah there are a lot of other options that can fill its shoes for almost the same price or less. Thanks for checking it out! Appreciate it!

I have one from the 70s and one from around 2018 or so, theres pretty much no difference. (no more difference than any two bought today or back then). So if anyone is selling this at a premium because its "vintage", you're not getting anything more special or different.
