I actually disagree with this being a negative. Executives don’t quit like a regular employee, they generally transition slowly over years. He most likely informed Blizzard of his intentions years ago and… from everything I’ve read he very much loved his time at Blizzard and cared about the company. If anything, this could mean things are moving in a good direction and it’s a good time for him to move on.

I would disagree about "why leave now if it will be the most exciting time in WoW" part. That could actually be the reason to leave. If he likes what he is doing, but on the other hand, has urge to change, it's good to leave now, because when the "Worldsoul Saga" hits, then he would get trapped in "the most exciting time in WoW". I did similar thing in my previous job, after 8 years I left, just on a brink of a huge update, which was later received very fondly by both customers, company and the investors. I knew that if I did not leave then, I would not leave for the next couple of years.

Remember seeing an artist that was with Blizz most of his professional career also leave but sincerely made it clear that he was forever grateful for his team at Blizz even thru the ups and downs, pay cuts, etc Some of the old guard just have an ambition to release or work on an idea whether theirs or shared amongst colleagues before they retire.

Leaving now might be a good decision if he wants a change of scenery. It's better to leave when Wow is in a good place saying "look, I steered this ship and put it on a good course" than leaving during dark times and having people thinking that you ran the game into the ground and jumped ship.

Honestly, even though many things seems changing with WoW and so on Jon Hights work might not be so different behind the scenes. Writers will stil write but according to Chris' will, designers will design and so on. Honestly after so many years at Blizzard it's not that strange that he wants to go somewhere else

He’s not a developer, he’s the project lead for Warcraft. He oversaw the direction of the Franchise and he came in around 2012 when a lot of people would Argue the direction took a turn for the worse. Holly and Ion are the faces that really make WoW tick. THIS will Impact Hearthstone and Rumble more than WoW by a large margin. Rumble was in large part his brain child. Hight helped save Hearthstone after Benjamin Brode left. Hights loss will be felt but not exactly how you think or where you think.

nah mate, im pretty sure he concluded the current project he has at his hands and then left the company like any normal human being that parted their ways in good terms. no need to look for drama irl, lets keep that deep diving investigation within the game i'd say.

Maybe dude just wanted to chill and relax and semi retire. Maybe he got an offer to become an owner of a company. Who knows why is it always a conspiracy that we go to?

Well, you still go around watching videos about the game so I'm gonna say it's clearly not that shitty.
