Watching this ceremony in late September 2020 brought many tears to my eyes. The Americans who served in our Armed Forces honorably---of all ranks---are the Americans I shall always be proudest of. It might be kind of respectless to downvote this video in relation to E.C. Byers and/or his family and brotherhood, but especialy as a german, who I am as much, there is a lot of problematic stuff shown in this video, that would give me a reason to downvote this (in fact I did not). "Our" soldiers, following the rules of so called "Innere Führung" (meaning inner guidance), would have the duty to deny the command on going into a "war on terror", because it is an inhuman and illegal war. Especially the Special Forces and the Drones are causing so much colleteral damage and human suffering all over the world that we can´t just leave this pathetic ceremonies and speeches uncriticized. Don´t get me wrong, most of german soldiers in the present days also don´t deny their commands in this context. So it may be right, that politicians start a war but only soldiers give them the capability to make it happen. It is an important lesson of World War II that every single person (soldier) has to take responsibility for one´s own actions.

Don't push that responsibility off to the politicians.

The Senior Chief was also awarded the Navy Cross and 5 - that's right 5 - Bronze Stars with Combat Valor pin. He represents what it means when people say "warrior." Next time you hear some idiot athlete use that term when talking about whatever sportsball they are playing - remember what this man and others like him have done for our country. That hostage is alive today and enjoying the rest of his life because of this man and the team that were there to rescue him. Much respect from a former Marine.

There are more people like him, but unless they are awarded the Medal of Honor or a VC etc., you will never hear of them. They reside in every freedom loving nation. If you pass one on the street, you will likely never know.

Most beautiful medal ceremony ever. I watch these for inspiration. The flags in front background and the anthem clutch at my heart. I know the seals have a few serious problems due to their arrogance. One took a photo with a dead enemy, but the navy will eliminate these if it faces its mistakes.

Thank you for your service. I love that your family is able to see your courage and gallantry being acknowledged by so many. Though you have suffered loss, your team and you have continued to stand up and fight for all of us and our beloved country. I look to my nephew who is just 8 years old and cannot help but be deeply grateful that my family can share in his life because of actions of our service members lile yourself. Chief i thank you that he was born on your team and your watch so he may have freedom to grow and live a full life. I thank you for that continued sacrifice you make leaving your family to go fight for ours. Its a debt we can never repay. But i can promise you i will always be grateful to men and women like yourself sir that fight and make the ultimate sacrifice for all of us. As a 26 year vet of the British Armed Forces I have worked alongside our American allies on numerous occasions. As such, i take great delight in ripping the piss out of them at every opportunity, lol. But by God they do a lot of things very well. This being one of them.... what a great way to honour a courageous serviceman. Great ceremony, amazing story and a brave, deserving serviceman. I salute you too Sir.

My uncle, my mom’s brother, was a Pharmacist Mate (now Corpsmen) with the !st Marine Raiders at Guadalcanal and was in the battle of Edson’s Ridge. When the overwhelming Japanese force of 3000 assaulted the ridge it was held by only 800 Raiders, Marine parachute troops. My uncle was treating wounded marines while surrounded by Japanese in the night attack. He was wounded twice during which time he continued treating the wounded until the attack was repelled. For his actions he was awarded a Navy Cross which was a big deal because this was one of our first actions in the Pacific..September 14, 1942. Standards for awards change with the times is my point.

The Medal of Honor sums it up. Navy Seal Byers is a genuine hero. I am just glad he survived to receive the Military Honor that he truly deserves. Happy for his family that he came back to them safe. Too many times, we lose the best in old man’s war. And Sometimes we get the best to return despite the odds.
