Senior & Beginner Workout - Slow and Gentle Barre

Tighten and tone your way through this muscle lengthening workout! Barre uses low impact movements at high repetitions. Some exercises are ballet inspired, but there is no dance experience required!
Make this workout your own; the deeper you bend your knees and the higher you lift your legs, the more challenging it will be.
Grab a sturdy chair and a light set of hand weights/dumbbells 1-4 pounds
I recommend no shoes for a barre workout. It’s good to feel and work the muscles in your feet for balance. Socks are fine, but please make sure they have sticky bottoms if you are on a hard wood floor or slippery surface.

That was a wonderful way to get back to barre. I'm 75 and I have to be careful not to hurt myself. It was gentle but my heart rate went up to 109 and I feel stronger with better posture.

This reminded me of my child hood ballet classes .I was surprised at what a work out it was I was sweating bullets 😂 I think this is my favourite What I like about your posts is that I have so many options I am 71 and I enjoy all your workouts Your 10 min balance workout has helped my balance so much I do your workouts 6 days a week My standing joke is that I am in an airlilines maintance department

It's so wonderful to have someone as in shape as you are teaching exercise for beginners, or those just starting again after a long while out of exercise, those coming out of injury, and seniors. I find this to be very reassuring, and it encourages me and makes me want to continue on my exercise journey following being inactive for a number of years. The feeling of being met with patience, and encouragement where I am in my fitness level by someone who's on the other end of the spectrum and very fit, rather than being looked down upon and sort of put into a different "category" by them is such an incredible motivator- it makes me feel unashamed and like it's all worth it. I can't tell you how I wish there were more you's in the world of fitness! Thank you.

I love these barre workouts. It’s been about 10 years since I took barre classes. I’m 67 and have rheumatoid arthritis. These workouts are so helpful in regaining some flexibility. You’re the best and I’m so glad I found your workouts.

I love your workouts!! I am not a senior (49) yet, but I have autoimmune issues now plus lyme disease, that keep me from working out at the intensity I did in my youth. Most programs are too fast or too loud. For me, your classes are both physicially challenging and mentally relaxing. I feel so good after!! I also love the blue color floor & backdrop, it is calming. Another awesome session 🤘🙏❤️ I had stopped doing Pilates because of osteoporosis but now I'm doing better and I'm back to it. I really appreciate these videos because I realized that the workouts I used to do, I can no longer keep up with. I'd rather do the exercise right then do many reps wrong. Thank you for making these videos for us older folks. 🤘 BTW these exercises have strengthen up my knees and quads to the point where I don't need a stick when I go hiking. My husband has a hard time keeping up me and likes to call me a billy goat 🐐

We had been doing group exercise classes together for quite a a few years at our community center, but Covid changed all that--during the last 18 months plus we have been getting on Zoom 3 to 4 times a week as a group; we share one of our screens and workout to your videos, in addition to Zumba videos, and other cardio. In fact, we just did this particular video this morning and loved it. We thank you and our hearts thank you. Our group ranges from younger Baby Boomers to the oldest exerciser who is 82 :-)

I was so happy to find you! At 59 I had been a bar method devotee, until my local class ceased doing any kind of beginner or dreaded should I say “senior “ bar classes. I really felt like it was the best workout I’ve ever had, but the other classes were geared for more younger flexible people I was concerned over getting hurt. Yes, do more of these. I'm not a senior but I am slowly recovering from surgery, so I was looking for a good place to start with an easy workout and stretches to wake my body back up and slowly start moving again.

I absolutely love your workouts. I have always done some form of exercise but last year I went through a hysterectomy, chemo and radiation. I couldn’t really workout and I lost everything (balance especially). I am now cancer free and I am determined to get my body back. Your workouts have gotten me on the path to doing so. I thank you!

I love this workout! I am a Certified Personal Trainer, also Certified in Boot Camp Gold and Group Fitness, I would love information on Barre Certification specifically for older adults.

Thanks so much Laurie, I appreciate that especially coming from another trainer! Regarding your question about older adults specific barre training: I don't think there is one! I've been teaching barre for years. Then I received my special certification for training seniors. I basically put those two together. All moves are my own based on the potential limited mobility and ability of seniors and beginners. Most barre classes are way too fast and tough. I know from my experience that most seniors don't like planking or getting on their knees. both can be really hard on the joints. I also find that my style of barre tends to be more dance based and less athletic than others. I think that's why it's a good fit for older adults. I just want everyone doing my videos to feel better than when we started!
Another favorite. I appreciate very much that we don’t have to go down to the floor and that we end up in the chair. Great idea. Thank you.

The slow pace is really making it more tough..i can really feel the targeted muscles work.... loving this video because its low impact and the moves were very doable... I'm a fit 45 and doing this video made me sweat so much...

Doing your workouts for a few months now and decided to try a class at Pure barre. I have gone twice now. Its not easy but instructor insisted I did good and thought i had prior classes. Also tried 1 club pilates workout, I prefer pureBarre. Oh and I did one Rumble boxing workout as well. Thank you so much for your videos I am getting so much benefit from them. I prefer yours over all the rest. Gonna stick with PureBarre and Rumble once a week and your videos the other days.

Just found these workouts and subscribed. I have worked out most of my life but have recently had several months of health issues and I’m just beginning to really get back into it. I’m 63 and before I started having health issues I was in the best shape I had ever been in. Whew! Great workout!! Have you ever thought of doing a stretch routine using a tennis ball or foam roller? They are the closest thing to a real massage. Whether you do one or not, I'll try all you put out there. I love the variety!

This was another fabulous workout ! I am 65 and have been searching for something to add for flexibility and balance .I have tried yoga numerous times but just don't like it .I love your barre workouts .They are challenging without being difficult to follow and I always feel so stretched out afterward . I have seen an improvement in strength and balance already and it has only been a few months .Thank you not forgetting an older population that would like to stay healthy and fit!

I liked this video as it felt very inclusive, I’m only 29. I have hypermobility EDS and lots of back, SI joint and well most joints pains. I’ll deffo try more from your channel. I’m not allowed to ‘push further’ as my joints then pop out or things tear due to my condition so it’s really nice this wasn’t all about making the biggest or deepest moves/bends etc so I didn’t feel like I was failing or not really trying. I’ll deffo be back to this video. Thanks.

This went by quick Lauren. It didn't feel like 47 minutes. I was super sweaty. My back is still wonky. Some sides of the body felt better than others and it felt good to sit down in the chair. I plan on doing the compound one tomorrow and if I need to lower my weights or drop them completely I will. My ego has no place in my workout.

Good job Paula! Barre and pilates will keep you honest for sure! it makes it easy to see what imbalances you have (we ALL have imbalances). keep up the good work!

Thank you so much for this excellent bar class. I appreciate your calm and clear approach. I would like to see more classes geared towards people with osteoporosis. It would be helpful to talk about what excercises should be avoided.
