If i left work prematurely without any progress on my project, i would be fired for being incompetent and lazy. However, in the world of politics, everything that is publicly seen is just a show and the real scummy decisions happen behind closed doors. They ran all their competition off and copyrighted the design of the lightbulb so that you can't produce one at all. Then, let's say that company decides that to make more money... their light bulbs are never going to last more than two or three days. So, you have to replace your light bulbs every 3 days... or use candles. I mean, everyone COULD go back to candles rather than "buying high priced garbage". But... who is going to do that? I don't care who owns what... if a company or a business CANNOT figure out how to make money without doing monopolistic things or by trying to lobby for new laws that favor their company and put their competition out of business... Then, I'm sorry, but those businesses deserve to die as they're run by morons. And, I'm sorry, but MORONS DO NOT EVER DESERVE TO MAKE MONEY. They deserve to go out of business and be broke and penniless. Alas... consumers are dumb as fuck. Just look at how many people bought 50 Shades of Grey... or FIDGET SPINNERS... or a damn Mac. Consumers are dumb and easily taken advantage of. You sort of need some regulations to keep moron businesspeople from preying on even more moronic consumers. Hell, you need only look at the cellphone industry to see in action how many morons exist. Do they own a cellphone? Check. Moron. Expecting people to buy a brand new controller just because one button got worn out is a straight up scam. Letting people repair their own shit does not lead to less profits. In fact, you could tap into those profits by selling spare parts and and specialized screwdrivers. The fact remains that these people actively fight for policies that benefit only a chosen few, despite the evidence that the opposite would be better in the long run. There should be a law prohibiting closed door meetings with lobbyists. You are free to do your lobbying, but do it publicly. Let's see if your arguments can withstand scrutiny.

    Honest question as someone not from the US: How would competition solve this problem - are we talking about another console (we have a lot, playstation, wii, xbox etc.), or about more repair options? Thouse would then need to be certified by Microsoft if you´d like to keep guarantee. And would competition solve the problem for forever? Or only until one competitor grows so much better no one else can enter the market anymore? Wouldn´t it be better to have certain laws or regulations assuring certain services? I dont mean laws describing every step that should be done... just those that state common sense, e.g. the reparing a fan should not lead to a new device erased of data without being asked for consent.

  • @MidnightSt

    @MidnightSt

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@Atheluin yes, they mean more repair options. and no, they wouldn't need to be certified by microsoft, because user reviews and ratings exist. but you probably meant "if you want to keep (product's) warranty". which... yes, that's true. but in that case, there should be an easy and reasonable option for getting certified, without having to be jumping through absurd hoops and limitations of the kind that Louis talks about in some video here, where you're also forced to buy parts only from the Apple/Microsoft, and buy them one-by-one, and they only get sent to you after they've recieved the old part. oh, but also - in a free repair market, warranty becomes largely irrelevant. right now, warranty is very important for these devices, because if you break it, the only company able to repair these devices fully (the manufacturer) will refuse to do so, if you break the warranty. however, if all 3rd party repair shops would be able to repair the devices cheaply and fully, the fact that the original manufacturer refuses to do so because you've broken the warranty, becomes almost irrelevant. basically, sane certification process, and sane process of buying replacement parts in bulk would be a perfect solution. "Or only until one competitor grows so much better no one else can enter the market anymore?" a company growing so much BETTER. is perfectly fine, since the point of competition is to make market provide the best possible service to customer. the problem would be if one competitor grew SO LARGE (without actually being the best) that it would gobble up everything. but then, competition would take him down, via other companies *actually providing BETTER service* so yes, competition just ensures dynamic where the best service eventually rises to the top. "Wouldn´t it be better to have certain laws or regulations assuring certain services?" there's a more important, core issue, which you seem to not take into account. this whole thing isn't just about customer service and repairs, at its core, it's an issue of principle - do you ACTUALLY OWN the device that you have bought, or is it still de-facto owned by the company you bought it from? and this issue of principle might even be more important, and far-reaching, than the practicalities of the repairs themselves. however it is decided, it creates a precedent, and makes a step in a certain direction for the future. and it's either the direction which ultimately leads (taken to its final extreme) to being able to repair and modify electronic devices that you own, or being explicitly forbidden to even open them, under the threat of some laws and sanctions (or even jail).

Reminds me of the Packard Bell Pentium 100 machines back in the late 90's rofl... My college buddy had one, and it was way slower than a Gateway 2000 486 dx2 66... When he finally got sick of it, we went to work on the case with a hacksaw (the only way into it) and found they put a Pentium sticker on some old poopy processor (think it was a 386). It was housed in an impregnable case, where you would destroy the computer trying to get into it. This is the kinda "technology" Charlie Brown here is all about.
