    Ezrider92356 If u already got this I apologize. I have a question. I lost my driver side duals and axel at approximately 5 mph. The Tab ring on the lock nut looked like it hadn’t been bent over. When the nuts come loose and u loose axel, is that a death sentence. These diffy were just rebuilt less than 10,000 miles ago. I’m not a shop equipped to do it but could manage if I have to pull 3rd member. Was hoping I could just reassemble with tab ring correctly installed this time. TY. 😉👍

    I had the exact same problem at the fuel island. I put interlock on and was able to move. Then I turned interlock off and everything was fine. So I pulled the oil plug and it had a tiny bit of small shavings in it. Nothing like yours. I canceled my load I had booked and then drove it home empty for 150 miles and went to the shop and they looked and test drove and said it has no problems they can see. I had not problems driving home. Then the tech told me I was probably high centered on one wheel while at the fuel island. Which caused one wheel off the ground. He said he never seen one fix it self. Then explained that the rear ends are either broken or not. They don’t have intermitting signs. If I turned that interlock off and it was broke, I wouldn’t of moved. So I drove it up and down some hills in the city with an empty trailer and it didn’t make any issues. The joys of being an owner operator.

    When you talk about axel stubs it’s what we call half shafts over here in the uk. It’s bad that some might park their trucks up because of this issue. Twin sticks Peterbuilt for instance was parked because of a problem with the front differential. Such a waste on classic old iron. Loving the videos. 😎

  • @Ezrider359

    Yeah it's not a inexpensive repair tho and alot of times when those trucks were parked they were not yet classics just old trucks with probably other issues as well and then in need of a expensive repair

    @@Ezrider359 I suppose the money you would put into keeping it on the road would go well towards a new one. Over here old truck are either exported or scrapped. I do like how they keep a lot of them rigs in fields for parts or to resurrect at another time. If they were left out in the uk they would rust to nothing in no time. 😆

    We got 2 bolt 6 to 8 in long. Cut the head off , cut a slot for a flat screw drive in the cut off end, then rounded the end. Took out 1 bolt either side of hoghead out and put those longer bolts in & lightly coat of oil on them . Then removed remanded of bolts. The long bolts let you slide hoghead out a few inches . Easier to hook up chain and align when reinstalling. Just something for you to think about.

    Great video. I have a question maybe you can help with. I have one tandem truck the blew the intermediate shaft a few weeks ago. I'm new to the fleet and big trucks in general so I assumed it had a bad u joint and let go. Anyway I replaced output and input yokes for the intermediate shaft with a brand new shaft and it exploded on the highway a few days ago again. I cant find any evidence of the brakes locking up and the rear exle looks pretty healthy drained fluid and went in with inspection camera. No chunks in the case and no excessive metal. When the shaft blew the second time it ripped out the whole output shaft a long with the yoke. And ideas before I tear into the wrong axle? Any help is appreciated 👍

    Thank you for this entertainment on a Saturday night. Question: That would have been the time to change to a different "rear end," meaning a different gear ratio if, like, you started Hauling light loads long distances, right? And by changing the rear end that means changing the ratio between the big ring gear and the smaller pinion gear, right? Question: if you changed just the pinion gear on the front axle, would that change the ratio for both axles?

    I have a question, every morning for the first 5km or more my truck will take few seconds or nearly a minute to change into low range from high range while moving. But if completely stop then it would enter to low range without hesitation, and things get better after the gearbox is well warm up and it would enter low or high range like how it suppose to do. I have check the airline and no leakage at all. It's been doing this for the pass 70k miles and the 6th gear won't engaged at all when still cold but I would skip it engaged to 7th but once it's warm up then everything will be smooth. It's a Chinese truck named as howo and it has 10 speed gearbox.

    its been a long time sense iv been in a range box, but i do believe that there is a screen/air filter in the range box, otherwise i would think possibly the the piston might be gummed up with sludge or something. i would probably start with disassembling the range selector on the trans after varifiying the air supply to the trans is good.

My truck is a 10 speed manual (Eaton) the gears stock was on high range (I was told that this was a minor issue) But The mechanic told me it's a big damage, they need to rebuild it for $ 3500 without labor!!!. I agreed. Then I found out, that he replaced it with another one, that one doesn't have a cooler (my transmission had one) tell me please if what the mechanic did is right/okay?. Should I accept this transmission ( the new one without the cooler)? He's working on the truck now, haven't finished yet.. I still have time... should I accept what he did or not?? Please reply 🙏

    Hello I just had to have my center section replaced on my front drive axle, two short trips (428 miles trips) it started leaking at pinion seal started leaking again. My question is, should the piñon yoke and u-joints been replaced with new center section? Or is it ok to use old yoke and u-joints? Thank you for your time

    There ok to re use if there in good shape my guess would be that the seal surface on the yolk is worn. I do tend to just replace u joints as prevention any time the driveshaft is off

    What size rears are they? 40k? Or smaller? Never seen this style in tractors, usually have 44k, just what I'm used to working on is all.

    How are those cat eyes tire pressure equalizers working for u? I want to get them but I worry they will cause leaks after a short while bc of the added connection points.

  • @Ezrider359

    iv been running them on 2 triple axle trailers and my tractor for about 4 years the other trailer has a auto inflation system. pro's defiantly outweigh the cons. i would recommend them. they can sometimes cause a leak point but they will only equalize down to somewhere around 90% of there closed psi rating then a valve inside will shut and keep your other tire fully inflated. its does not happen frequently though and because it is so easy to see that you have a cat eye open you will notice there is a problem much quicker than you ever would with just a tire thumper. iv been planning to do a video on the pro's vs cons of the cat eyes for a while now but haven't gotten to it yet hopefully soon.

    @@Ezrider359 i think I'll go ahead and order them. During winter my tires always drop in pressure at different rates and it's a pain in the ass to get to that inner tire with all the road salt. Seems to me the cat's eyes are better quality compared to the cross fire.

  • @Ezrider359

    @Ezrider359

    cat eyes are better, better quality and easier to read at a glance. the single fill point is one of my favorite things about them. buy the next pressure rating down from where you intend to run your tires at. the first ones i bought were for my exact target psi and sometimes if its a little cooler one morning than the next they may be slightly open but fine as soon as the tire or air temp comes up. running 5 psi over your cat eye settings won't give you any false low psi indications and you can still stick your pressure gauge on the single fill location from time to time if you want. in the winter time your want to knock any ice build up off the hoses. last winter i had the fitting on one hose where it screws onto the valve stem crack after running threw about 800 miles of slush and had about a inch of ice built up on all of them but that is a pretty extreme case.

    @@Ezrider359 thanks for advise. That makes a lot of sense. I'll keep an eye on those hoses for sure. I'll order a couple extra. All I run is upper midwest to Pacific NW and it never ending snow and slush during the winter.

    yeah i carry 1 extra inside and outside tire hose in my side box. don't need them often but if you do need to replace one its nice to just throw a new hose on rather than take the cat eye off while you wait to get a new hose.

    Very informative ! Lost my Driver side duals last week as I was exiting hi way. When i recovered the duals the Axel and both dual were all together as one unit with hub cover still on and all bolts tight. Nut and lock washers on housing missing. Gonna pull rear cover to inspect today. Any advice would greatly be appreciated. Thx for vid !

    Well I thought I should update my post as I believe the reason I didn’t see the nut and lock washer is because it apparently in just behind the hub cover. This truck just had the differentials gone thru and higher gears installed. I’m guessing who ever did the job didn’t put one of those tab washers like you used in your video on this diffy...... The spline on the axel looks to be ok and axel appears to be straight but I really wold like to check axel to be sure. Any ideas on checking for straightness? Or do u recommend I take it to a pro to check it. I think if it’s straight I can just put it back in and add a tab washer. I haven’t pulled diffy cover yet to check for issues but I plan on doing so.... Thanks again for the video! Any advice is welcomed ... lol. 😉👍

    Well so I see there is no cover on the differential to easily inspect internals . My diffy has Two lock nuts per side (4) and one lock ring with the holes in it per side (2) and it does have the tab ring per side (2) . But doesn’t look like it was bent over the nut. Maybe they forgot to bend it over. Who knows.... When the nuts back off . Is that an automatic death sentence for the 3rd member ? The axel. Appears to be fine as it came off at low. Speed (5mph) Spline looks good . Was hoping I could just reassemble with tab ring bent over correctly. Do you think I need to pull 3rd member to inspect. I’m not a shop with good tools to do it but could manage if I must. Thanks in advance 😉👍

  • @Ezrider359

    @Ezrider359

    Yeah they must not have bent the tab over or set the bearings correctly. I would think the 3rd member would be ok. Unless the splines got chewed up. I don't think I would see a need to pull the 3rd member unless you have trouble getting the axle shaft in

    Ezrider92356 10/4 on Nat . I’m going out now to look the bearings over before I put it back together. They felt smooth when I checked them the other day but I noticed a discoloration on the part of the differential that the bearing slides over , like a bearing had run hot at one time or another. I couldn’t remember what you torqued the lock nut to, I remember something you torqued as tight as you could get it but I’ll re watch video and I’m sure I can find it on google. Thanks for the reply. I’ll update once I test it out. 😉👍

    Basically torque it down as tight as you can get it while spinning the hub to seat everything then back it off and just snug it up. Lock nut goes on tight. One of the wheel bearing videos I pinned a comment where someone asked about torque specs and I replied with all the specs

    How much was the 3rd member? Was it reman or new? Last reman I had to get was like $3500, than $1000 labor in Phoenix. Plus a tow bill. I lost half the teeth on the ring gear. Fun 2 days that was.

    reman, it was right around 3500 including the core charge witch i got back 6-700 something like that. bought straight from a local re-builder. i probably had right around 10 hours labor in changing it. could be done quicker but it takes a good bit of time to clean and flush out the entire housing pull the wheel bearings apart clean inspect and replace clean the hubs out ect and put it all back together. the one in this video was recorded just before Christmas i think i finished it up on Christmas eve and i got to do it again a few weeks ago (didn't record it cause i already have this video and just wanted to get the job done) sheered the output shaft off pulling a load out of a field and piece of metal went in the ring gear. gotta love trucking....lol
