I read a theory, that Neo's semblance became powerful because Ever After is about imagination.

Theory could hold some weight, because in Roman Holiday Trivia basically discovers her semblance daydreaming/wishing she could rebel against her parents and then "Neo" took form. Not to mention she enjoyed the story elements of "The Girl That Fell Through The World"

Neo's semblance should not have grown that much. It went from physical illusions to basically create life.

Don't worry. If the writers get lazy and bring her back at some point in V10, she will be back to normal with her semblance. No enhancement. No Evolution.

that is an interesting idea on a character with no semblance and aura being just as good as ones with them, that is something id like to see more of

I hope we see more character in in vacuo with aura it makes sense caz it's one of the most dangerous place so ppl should have op aura there

other factors that would make them focus on their aura more than anything else would be the fact that the other kingdoms basically tapped vacuo dry of all their dust. also all the loose sand flying around would also make those mechashifting weapons very impractical. So ya aura techniques would be for the best.

I never understand why Weiss doesn’t use her time dilation to speed up her rate of creating circles.

Semblance evolution is a tricky subject. It's the concept of learning the scope of what your semblance can actually do compared to a moment of actual evolution. Ren spent a lot of time grasping what his semblance was capable of. As the ability to sense emotions was a secondary aspect he's been steadily working towards. Such as sending Tyrian in volume 4 and then in volume 7 where he began to meditate to focus on sensing people. Then a strong emotional moment caused an actual evolution to seeing emotions. Jaune had a long scope of learning the extent of his power. Ruby pulled his hands away to see Weiss' injury and we saw he could use it at a distance. Vine even spoke directly in regards to working on expanding his aura. In his case I feel he's regressed majorly. He used to focus on attack with his volume 4 upgrade. But volume 7 has him to all upgrades into his shield and his sword is ignored. He's taken a support and defensive role. Ignoring the potential offensive ability of amping his aura to channel and attack. We've seen the strength behind his raw swings and the force it generates. But Neo I think is an outlier tied to the ever after. Do I think she experienced an evolution? Yes and no. Her ability with her semblance has grown progressively. And her hatred upon being betrayed could be part of it. But I think experiencing a semblance evolution within the magic heavy ever after is the reason for her massive growth. Semblance is just that. A semblance of the magic humanity once had. And everyone had different levels of magic they were born with. Jaune however likely didn't grow much at all. He experienced the concept of insanity. Do the same thing every day expecting a new result. He didn't take time to hone his skills and improve. He spent his days following the same routine in an effort to gain normalcy and be a hero. That to do list took up most of his time and while his reflexes keeping up with that kept him sharp to a degree. He likely did not improve on his skills or focus on actual training after meeting Alix and Lewis.

I suspect if Neo reappears in V10, there will be no enhancement or evolution to her semblance. It will be back to the same old Neo. There are two reasons I believe this to be the case. - Everything seemed to be reset when the gang left the EverAfter. Most notably, Jaune was de-aged back to normal. Neo will like come back "normal" also. - Second, if Neo is brought back into play in V10, she will not be a villain. She will be assisting the Heroes. The writers will never put such an OP character on the good side. Yes, I know Emerald was flipped and she is all kinds of OP. But I believe it is because she is so OP that the writers will take every opportunity to keep her sidelined or on an off screen mission, and away from fighting along side the heroes. She will only reappear when it is time to confront Cinder. Likely the same for Neo.

I kinda don't mind how relatively common semblances are because of how varied the power levels and situational they can be. those with weak or situational semblances would of course focus on some other method of power dust, aura, tech their pick. Qrow and Clovers passive semblances do have some level of control, by pumping aura into it they can cause more luck events to happen. Also in volume 4 it is shown Qrow was actively killing grim to keep the group safe, but after his aura broke in his fight with Tyrian and he was bed ridden, unable to kill grimm, they were able to get a full nights rest with no attack from grimm, despite the negative emotions they would definitely be feeling at that point, I would call that good luck for the bad luck charm. So ya seems like broken aura means other types of luck can happen. That said Mettle was a mistake that was never used, like it was mentioned once but not given any indication of it actually being used. I also After the Adam fight, the one he died in, developed a theory that aura techniques can have the same results as a semblance but they would have a higher cost and not have as great of a result. this would open the possibility of characters having multiple abilities but also and explanation on why they wouldn't normally do so unless the ability is very useful to them. After they failed to show their planned semblance for Roman, he kind of became an example of greatness without a semblance.

Ruby running on those mussels kinda reminded me of Raiden in Metal Gear doin that in that one scene

I think they determined Ironwood's semblance as 'Mettle' because it is a homonym of metal, which ties to his representation as the Tin Man.

I still wished that ironwood's semblance was somwthing to help him survive serious injuries how did he survive the injury that require half of his body to be replaced with metal? I would assume half of his organs were damaged as well

Interesting idea

I wish Mettle turned him into a metallic monster slowly over time, then we can have him tragically losing his mind and ableism not being what shows he’s evil. At least literally metal arms would be better than saying him having prosthetics makes him more inhuman.

Semblances were a cool concept. But i wish the origions were re-worked. If any human has the potential to unlock a superpower; (Best example, kid Ren) Humanity wouldn't be worrying about grim so much. xD

Semblances use to be really cool and creative. But ever since V6, semblances have become thoroughly plot driven, power scaled as needed. From characters pulling out new abilities on the spot that will be used once to make a scene work and never be seen again... Like Emerald being able to suddenly use her semblance on Grimm, or even on Penny. To characters suddenly forgetting their semblances in a pinch when it would be most useful... Like Yang falling off a platform to her perceived death, while Weiss and Ruby stand around and watch when they are perfectly capable of saving her. Or Marrow not using his semblance in his first fight with the "heroes" because plot called for the AceOps to loose, badly. But the second, he does because the heroes had to suffer a loss. Silver Eyes can be thrown in the same barrel. It too has become a plot tool... Like Ruby being able to flash Cinder on the spot at every previous encounter. But at the end of V8 suddenly she can't. Because the plot needed Cinder to have a big win. In that same episode I believe, Cinder knocks Neo off a ledge!!?? The writers complete ignoring Neo's semblance and agility because plot needed her to end up in the EverAfter. Of course then there's my favorite. When all else fails and CRWBY can't create a scene that logically explains how an ability was used to achieve a goal, just skip it. Hope no one notices... Like JRY being dropped off in the middle of a raging War zone outside Monstro. Next scene they are all the way inside Monstro unscathed. No explanation. (Ren's semblance is no excuse) Or how Cinder and Neo were able to fly their disguised ship all the way into Atlas unchallenged, when Team R/W/BY and company almost got shot down flying a real Atlas ship. It's become quite a problem in this show with the power scaling. CRWBY creates all these fantastic powers and abilities, then forgets (or ignores) how to use them properly later in the show because they are too OP in many cases.

How were we supposed to figure that out. Semblances really are just for plot sadly. wait how were Neo and Cinder undetected LOL o boy.

miln25. LOL, I am somewhat ol' school. If it isn't explained or depicted in the show I am watching, then I know nothing about it. It is not canon to me. I don't have the time or the desire to follow podcasts, commentaries, novels, comics outside of the show. Seems CRWBY has made a habit of explaining things outside the show when there has been enough critique about something. Then they are forced to come up with an explanation. (Like Ironwood's semblance after the volume was over.) If I can't get a reasonable understanding of things from just watching the show, the writers are not doing their job and the writing is crap. "hoped someone would catch this" ???!! If there is no proper exposition or clues, no one will catch it! And if there is nothing else to back up the logic, then it makes no sense. Like your said, 'how come Neo was the only one to get buffed'?! It would be different if all the characters got 'buffed' in some way by the EverAfter. Then Neo getting buffed would make perfect sense. As for Cinder and Neo sneaking into Atlas undetected. That made absolutely NO sense to me, and here is why. - Doesn't matter if Neo disguised the ship. Neither Neo or Cinder know the proper 'jargon' to respond to a radio challenge for identification and intent. (At least Maria knows some, and even that didn't hold up for long.) - R/W/BY's stolen airship had a friend/foe beacon which identified them to Atlas defenses as a friend before they even answered on the radio. Cinder/Neo's fake ship had no such beacon. They should have been shot down on approach. - R/W/BY had to land their ship in mantle quickly to avoid being shot down. They still got caught. Where did Cinder/Neo land? In Atlas? They would have been questioned about their orders, flight plan, papers, etc by the military after landing. Cinder knows nothing about that, and Neo doesn't talk. - Sooner or later, the image of the ship would have shattered revealing the mistral ship after they left it. It should have set off alarms in the military. - It has not been shown that Neo could disguise anyone else but herself. Cinder's face is on wanted posters and public displays everywhere last I saw. Likely around the world by now. How did she move around the City without being seen or recognized. Let along get all the way into the most secure areas of Atlas Academy. - How did Neo snag a job working in Schnee manor as a server. Surely security or other workers would have wondered who she was. Especially if she can't talk when spoken to. She was able to walk into a top level meeting. But there was no way to depict all that in a way that made logical sense. So, CRWBY did what they usually do in situations like that. 'They were there, now they are here, live with it.'. The story needs to move forward.

Interestingly, while the semblances of other B characters have "evolved" or seen enhancements over the course of the show, Team R/W/BY's semblances have pretty much gone nowhere. Remained the same. I wonder if they are being saved for maidenhood. As three of the team members at this point have relatively clear paths to becoming Maidens.

I've always asked this: if a person has a VERY traumatic experience, can thier Semblance change its very nature? Or could it even bd lost all together?

I'm afraid that when the show gives Oscar a semblance i want like it Part of it caz their to many characters,all most 80% of the characters get a semblance And most suck or are just a copy of another semblance with different color And everytimeI think Oscar will get a semblance some one else gets it,like with clover got good luck,neo can make full clones of her self,may Marigold can turn invisible, Theere some I thought Oscar get but others did An after I saw how the characters got semblance in the rwby x movie I just be happy if Oscar got a upgrade to his magic and use dust in his outfit I all so have a headcannon for what Oscar could get for. A semblance I don't think it will be time related that's more ozpin /ozma s thing I'm at the point if Oscar could control sand an dust particles and learn to add dust to his sand like cinder to doore with it Sand be good their a lot you can do if you can control sand or dust

one thing I dont understand yet, those werent Healing powers Jaune has as semblance, its just his bottomless pool of natural Aura he has right? and he uses his aura to share it with his friends to amplify them right? so he doesnt have any Semblance yet? or what

That is his semblance. Supplying Aura to others. He may be able to boost his own as well. But that is it. He is basically planning and support for other characters.

@@localdude2979 Yeah, Pyrrah helps him unlock his Aura using hers in episode 1x6 I believe. Right after that, the scratch on his cheek heals very quickly. Which she responds "You have a lot of Aura". But it wasn't revealed yet that his semblance was that he could use that well of Aura to boost someone else's. Not healing, but boost the Aura that heals, among other things like boosting another's semblance for battle. Or so the original lore goes. There has been so much Lore bending lately that I am not surprised your confused.

Something tells me, the next time she appears, it will be back to normal for her semblance. Her power and ability (and intelligence) has been power scaled as needed over the past few volumes just to satisfy a scene. Like Cinder being able to simply knock Neo off a ledge. Writers totally ignoring her semblance and agility because they needed her to end up in the EverAfter. Neo being sucker punched by a telegraphing farmboy running down a hallway was also pretty illogical and silly. Just to make a scene play out a certain way. Neo was nerfed unrealistically in V7 and V8 to keep her in play as a wild card. Then she was made all kinds of OP in V9 to counter team R/w/BY+J. If she is brought back into play in V10, I wouldn't be surprised if it will be same old Neo, unevolved. Only difference being, she will be fighting along side the heroes. (Can't have a character too OP on the good side.)

Im still confused on how Oscar managed to punch neo...made no sense. I...I hope they just leave Neo alone I love her dearly but i cant see her fighting alongside our Heros...I can barely seem Emerald on team RWBY"s side at this rate.

@@miln25 Best answer to your quandary about how Oscar managed to Punch Neo... Plot! Bad Writing! Take your pick. I think even Miles and Kerry admitted (after so many critiques about that scene) that it did not come out right. They blamed it on an animation error, miscommunication with the animators, something like that as an excuse. Which of course does not really hold water. They knew what they did with that scene, and did not think it was a problem when they put it out. And I am afraid JelloApocalypse's prediction that Neo will be ruined has come true. She is ruined. From that punch onward. And now she has been flipped and redeemed. Just like Illia and Emerald. Her ruination is now complete.

@@rileyduncan3927 Well, she is not dead per say. The theory is she will be 'fixed' by the tree and be right as rain when she re-emerges. Leaving her open for the writers to bring her back in V10 if they are feeling particularly lazy. Likely in the later part of V10 as she pops in to assist in battling Cinder. (But she won't be super powered like she was in the EverAfter.) I am not making a firm prediction on that. Just saying that the option is there for the writers. Who seem to think Neo is extremely popular. "Even after everything she did". Well you only need to look at Emerald and Illia to know how the writers will handle a return by Neo. She would join up with the Heroes. They will accept her despite any and all past crimes.
