How do you clean the green and keep the patina?

Clean and level tone holes are often a very overlooked step. I used to see "overhauls" from other shops when I worked in the business that the tone holes were never touched. And they wondered why the horn still played like garbage.

I would like to know what tool I use for the refit. Thank you
