Selling books on eBay and stacking up piles of cash. What sold and why. And where and maybe by whom.

This video covers what I sold on eBay from March 16 through March 31. There were 33 books and 6 not-a-books.

I am so glad I found your channel this morning. I have been a seller for 25 years. Did ebay for many years then got burned out. Had a following so moved over to a private group on facebook. I love books and love selling them. I do well with books in my private group but I need to move back to ebay on some higher priced stuff. I've been wanting to find someone who sells books on ebay so I can get some ideas of what sells and what to sell stuff for. So very glad I found you this morning. Thank you for making videos showing what you sold and what they sold for. That is so very helpful to us resellers!!!

Greater Portland Oregon Goodwill Outlet charge $2.29 for hard back books a little less for paperback. I've only sold 2 I spotted that looked like they would sell good. One was a 1939 Chevrolet book on a certain engine, and I can't remember now. It had everything about that engine that was only made for 6-8 years. It had no sleve, A little greese on the front and still sold full asking price of $50.

Yes. The bins are at select goodwills where all they have are large blue bins filled with stuff. Books are 2/$1 but everything else is sold by the pound. Clothes are something like $2.39 a pound and other goods are $1.89 a pound. So you stand there and root through everything, getting constantly elbowed in the ribs, looking for the gems. There ares 3 places like that in Houston. All the other goodwills are regular stores. The bins are fun. You never know what you might find!

Thank you so much for watching and subscribing. The consistency came pretty early, but the volume wasn’t there. Almost right away, once I started selling books, I was selling a book a week or so. It was probably a year before I was averaging a book a day. I have 1300 items currently listed and probably average a couple sales a day. I’ve had 2 today. Remember that i do this very much part time. I source a couple times a month on weekends. I try to list something every day but that doesn’t always happen. eBay inventory solution I’m still looking for a solution to the problem of having items not selling and then being automatically relisted month after month. In the past I used the 30-day listing to manage my inventory. When an came off listing I’d then adjust the price or title or whatever was needed to make it more likely to sell. Now with auto relist I’ll find items sitting on selves for months that I forgot were there. How to you keep control of your inventory and prevent this issue? Thanks!

  • @smalltownsmalltimebookseller

    @smalltownsmalltimebookseller

    Жыл бұрын

That’s a great question and unfortunately I don’t have a great solution. While I still have space, I let everything sit and renew each month. Once I literally have no more space (getting close) I plan to a sort my listing by date started on eBay and start to cull the lot y what’s been sitting the longest. Books in general are long tail items, so I will probably pull items that haven’t sold in a year. Thank you for watching!

I didn’t. Then I did. Now I don’t. I don’t think books is a category that benefits from printed listings. Unless you are selling very popular and lower value books. If there are only 5 copies listed, I don’t see the value of making sure mine appears first. Books as a role are going to take a while to sell.

@@smalltownsmalltimebookseller that's interesting.. I do a lot of used clothes and they are very long tail. Was hoping books would be a faster option

I know you buy from stores but have you ever just bought a box of books and just posted them without looking them up starting bid 99 cents and let ride?

No, I’ve never done that! I don’t think I could. Maybe if it was all the same series. Like a box of Nancy Drew or something. But otherwise I would have to look them all up. I’d be too worried I had something valuable in there!

There are so many Goodwills selling books for 3.99 and free shipping. Buy 3, get 1. I don't understand how you manage to sell anything.

It is frustrating to see those listings when I have something I want to sell. Mostly the Goodwills and massive book sellers deal with best sellers, mass market paperbacks and that kind of thing. The more obscure, the more esoteric, the more likely there won’t be those low end sellers. There are plenty of books out there that you can sell for some decent profit! Thank you for watching and for commenting.

Don’t give up! Books are fickle, to say the least. And they are long tail items for the most part. I have 1300 items listed on eBay and I sell about 2 a day on average. Hope the book sales pick up.

    Why not organize your bookcases

Makes it more challenging this way! Actually it is organized. Each bookcase has a number and each shelf has a letter. In my description I put 7B or wherever the book is. Then I only have to search that limited area. Always take pictures of the spine and it is pretty quick to find. I stack them the way I do so I can fit more on a shelf as I have limited space. Thank you for watching and thanks for the question!

Your channel is great. I’ve been thinking of organizing my books like yours to make more room. Some say stacking them like that is bad. Have you noticed anything with stacking your books like that? Thanks!

Sorry for the delay in response. I couldn’t find your comment again after reading it til now. I believe it is better for the books to store them flat. Most damage occurred to the edges and corners. This way there is no pressure on those areas. I can store more and I believe it is better for the books!
