    If you replace the side cover gasket you might as well replace the Water pump impeller shaft and bearings and seals. If the bearings are worn even a little bit the impeller shaft and seals will both be worn. Problem is that the seals end up wearing grooves in the shaft because the bearings are worn. I just rebuilt a 96 RM 125 a few months ago that someone had "Rebuilt" and it overheated because all of the coolant ended up in the oil. Luckily it did not hurt the bottom end but I did have to get the cylinder bored .005 over to clean it up.

    Whilst I'm always impressed by your knowledge and ability it does annoy me that you're perfectly happy to do a half assed job just to get it running. That engine had obviously been full of water, the coolant leak, etc. You just Breeze past these issues just to fire it up even though there's a fair chance you're doing more damage even if it's minor. What's wrong with doing it right first time occasionally? On a bike like this it's not really an issue accept it's a Yamaha but on some stuff you do it can be really annoying. OCD I guess.

    another way to add compression is re sleeving your cylinder or re plating if there are any cracks/scratches. Sometimes with the older bikes the cylinder gets worn down a lot and a new piston + rings wont be enough

I then see what a squish test reveals and then deck the head to get that compression UP TO GET THAT PIPE HIT STRONGER!!! The 2-smokes are SO EASILY UPGRADEABLE!!

    Hey Joe! What do you think about doing a good detailed video on a boat outboard motor winterization process? Maybe on your fishing boat you still have in your front yard? There are ones out there but not very good in my opinion... Thanks! 😁

  • @williamevans6468

    @williamevans6468

    Not a bad question but I am curious as to why you would need to winterize an outboard boat motor unless it has a closed cooling system such as a motorcycle or car has? I am only asking because I do not own a boat and never have but I was under the impression that outboard boat motors are an open liquid cooling system meaning they suck water out of the body of water they are in and discharge that water back into the body of water. Again, I have no real knowledge of these types of engines so I am just curious as to why that would need to be done as well as if I am just completely wrong with my understanding of them?

    Hi Will 😁Well i do know what your talking about but from what i see on some other videos... That there is more involved if you want to do it right. Cylinders should be fogged with fogging oil.(spark plugs changed and that time if you want to) Lower transom oil should be changed incase there's some water mixed in with it so it does not frieze. And some other smaller things... I have a 25hp mercery on a 15 footer i got this past spring and i just want to do it right cause its going to sit out in a cold back yard this winter. Hope you have a nice day 😎.@@williamevans6468

    @@just_in_time5518 I appreciate your response and by no means do I know what I am talking about with one of these engines.But from what you said, it seems legit that you might add oil into the cylinders just to ensure they are well coated and wont rust. Not sure why the spark plug would need to be changed unless there is a concern that rust may occur. I would be terrified if I needed to lower my trans oil just in the event that water may have been introduced into the engine. That means you would need to do a rebuild. Lowering the trans oil will do nothing to prevent or fix the issue. Seems to me that you just need to do a normal end of season maintenance. I could be completely wrong but I doubt it.
