Self-Watering Moss Globe (Satisfying and Relaxing Build)

In this one, I transform a basic craft foam ball into a living piece of art. It's being constantly watered, which hydrates the geotextile fabric. That creates a great growing surface for the moss to grow on and thus you have the living moss globe. Not only that, but once the water reaches the bottom of the globe, the water returns to the basin via laminar flow.

I have no idea if it grew well or if everything is dead. What worked and what did not. Would love seeing a playlist for each terrarium, vivarium, paludarium or any -arium for that matter so I can see what pitfalls you hit and learn from your mistakes and successes.

The juxtaposition of the stark lines and symmetrical angles of the opaque and man made structure done in the most minimalist fashion against the simple single toned smooth and round river rocks is brilliant. The globe has life and it flows down to those natural structures. The fact that it is static in nature is evocative. It reminds us that we are all living in the natural world and even though we see permanence, the essential nature of our existence (whether we build the white stark structures to capture nature) or embrace nature in the moment; It is ever changing. And we must understand that from a time perspective. The laminar flow exemplifies this lack of permanence in both mans creation and nature's creation. A truly exceptional piece. Thank you.

The comment may be a bit behind your post, but thank you so much for the soothing, peaceful calm you provide in your videos. My life is so full of anxiety, I watch true crime videos after my boyfriend falls asleep to relax. With that said I've always loved horticulture, at a very young age my dad made me a terrarium and taught me how to care for it (or how not to care for it lol)... my parents unfortunately went their separate ways when I was 5 but my terrarium was to stay at my moms house with me so I could enjoy it until the weekend when I could be surrounded by plants, animals, fish and nature. Until the tragic day I came home from school that my mom stayed home from work. She decided to water all of the plants in our house. Including my terrarium. I was heartbroken. I always had a stronger bond with my dad, that day made it even more solid. I watch your videos to find zen before I sleep myself. Again thank you.

Are you stationed there? Commissary will have the tile and 100% silicone for builds. If you want glass, any of the glass shops ask for 1 cm thick glass for smaller builds, 2 cm thick for big builds. Moss grows all over, especially in the joints of brick buildings and sidewalks there. A small piece of moss, size of your thumb, is fairly easy to propagate.

@@brieoshiro people online also think they have more knowledge about the coronavirus than the epidemiologists... According to Master Breeder Dean with Aquarium Co-op, Tanner with Serpa Design, and the local glass supply shop I get my glass for my custom builds, as long as it says 100% silicone, by law it can't have anything else in it. Apparently, 100% silicone is naturally mold and mildew resistant. You can download the ingredients directly from the website and double check. The most important thing is let it dry for at least 48 hours in a well ventilated area, as it offgasses acetic acid while it cures. (ie: it reeks of vinegar until it is cured completely)

Beautiful.. and inspirational! I'm now adding to my to-do list to make one of these, but I'm going to go with a theme of Green Earth in Space. So, use different types of moss to differentiate water/land, and the structure is going to be night sky-themed, maybe with appropriate lighting/stones.. perhaps a small light option that is the Sun in the distance (say in the central pillar, above and behind the Earth) and maybe lighting in/around the base using blues.. hmm.. could even use a "christmas lights" kind of idea for stars...
