    I had a small piece of copper with a pin hole leak and I use this fusing tape and it didn't stop the leak entirely. I eventually replaced the area with pvc pipe and all is well. This most likely could work on a piece of copper pipe that was at least 8 inches long. My pipe was just not long enough to spread the tape out far enough. I had to use a razor to cut the tape and it did fuse nicely.

    It worked, clear generic silicone tape, on a leaking oil cooler line that has up to 65psi of hot oil in it. It was leaking 1 quart every 200 to 300 miles and now it's leaking none. 350 miles later of mountain, Interstate, and town driving. Used 2 hours of time (half was cleaning hose) and a $7 10' roll of silicone tape that I wanted to test. Took about 30" of clear tape to do one end of the hose while on the car. I prefer the clear as it allows me to see through it. I developed a technique to do it in tight space. Gave it 3 overlapping layers in a different pattern. Straight wrap, diagonal, then straight again. Any pattern works but important to have different seal points of different wrapping and do it as tight as you can, with space provided. Also important to squeeze and rub firmly on it to get each layer to fuse for 5 minutes or so before the next layer and the final layer. If it's higher than 65psi I would also place single double wrapped pieces directly over the leak, for extra strength material before the first layer of the 3 wraps. Or wrap it 4 times.

    good idea in ideal situations for simple pin holes under 100 PSI. Ive been in maintenance for 12 years and i still have not seen anything that works faster, that is cheaper, better and as long lasting as any old chunk of rubber and any spare gear clamp you have in the tool box. If your pipe has pin holes its time to replace it anyways and you can retrieve your gear clamps when you re-pipe.

    The product is awesome, although I do not use it for a permanent solution. It helps for those late night calls to hold off the leak until the next day. Also works great on black iron piping in hydronic heating systems. Sometimes it is too cold out to drain the system and shut down the boiler. i have left the tape in this situation for 2 weeks with no issues at all.

    autocrow correctly true, the hot water pipe to the whole building apartment, happen to cross pass inside my unit apartment walls and ceiling. The hot water pvc pipeline busted for the second time, but in a different location from the 1st (1.5m away) there was a kink plumber state, saying any bend to a pvc pipe even the slightest which isn't noticeable to the eyes can later caused huge damage. Like in my case. It was like a waterfall, something that belong outside in the nature I am now witnessing pouring from my laundry ceiling. Gushes of water couldn't be turned off in my unit mains.so it now clearly the whole units buildings hot water is runs pass part of my wall and ceiling. Point is, no tap will temp cover/fix that amount of water load that I saw ”waterfall” if only it was a natural outback feature piece that MEANT to be there.. But wasn't. Home Insurance fxukd me over as that night I was in process of renewing my home insurance-they picked up that I had a shop within the building apartment and denied the renewal(even tho they did insure me past 2years), only 2 hours later that the pipe busted. I Tried to say they should pay N I am entitled payout. But got denied. Scums they are..!

    Eddie Rice , you obviously miss the reason for this taking longer. You must apply some stretching tension to the tape as you wrap, the wraps should overlap and then build up on both sides of leak before covering the hole. It's not duct tape, it has no adhesive per say, it adheres to itself by the stretching.

    That piece being wrapped is a LOT LONGER than the piece that was cut. For the price of a roll of that stuff, I'd buy a couple of SharkBite (or other brand) push-to-fit plumbing fittings and a short piece of plastic or coppe pipe. I keep a few of those fittings around as well as some spare pipe for those "midnight' fixes.

  • @BigDogsHunt100

    @BigDogsHunt100

    No, I think its the same piece. It's stretchy. I know 3M has a self-adhesive tape I've used in the past, even under pressure for a car radiator hose. I believe they call it Mastic-tape. It's thick and rubbery on a backing strip just like this, and once it touches itself it binds instantly... no unwinding so get it right the first time. I also recall a silicone tape with the same "instant adhesive" properties so you can wrap a piece around a radiator hose and patch it without removing the hose. This stuff can be a life saver at the track or on road trips. I wouldn't reccomend it as a permanent fix though... better off replacing the pipe section in the long run. I really doubt a local inspector would think a pipe patched like this is up to code. ;-)

    Not if you don’t have a solder gun and solder wire. I’m a gal - and I don’t know how to solder. This kind of tape is fast and SUPERB. Used it on a slowly leaking non pressure pipe (my 1” toilet overflow down pipe). Its been taped for 4 years. Check it every month. Dry as a bone and looks like new, e,g, how it did when I applied it.

    I hate how these things assume leaks always appear in easily repairable areas such as this, lots of free space, no angles, just a straight clean pipe. In actuality these leaks would appear in joints and areas that curve.

    Took you two minutes and 50 feet of tape to fix that hole. most of these kinds of "Fixes" Are to stop water from running while you go get a replacement or turn of the main or whatever. Not meant for permanent fixes. and you could probably use alot less of another kind of tape.

    That muzac is dreadful - why not have some mention of the tape's name - how tight to pull it, what to do when space is more restricted. Or just silence. anything but that inane din.

    Who repair pipe like this if not for an emergency thing? But till must replace the pipe later. Don't think any insurance company will accept that kind of repair
