Wow, I’m glad I stumbled upon this! It’s so great to see the band having fun especially with fellow musician Shelly Larres. Selena really had so much confidence, just having fun trying to take over on bass for AB. It’s cute how her and Chris are interacting too.

Shelly is actually pretty big here in San Antonio..and throughout texas.. as well as Elida Reyna and Stefani Montiel... but out of all of them Selena was the more popular one.. but they were all pretty well known... and of course after her death became internationally known...

Outside of Texas, Tejano music is quite dead. Selena basically put Tejano music on the U.S. map. I never heard of Elida or Stefani; thus, they must not be all that good. And as far as Shelly Lares, she's been around for almost as long as Selena, and to this day, she is still not famous, outside of Texas. So to me, she hasn't made it. And if she has not made it after all this time, she's never going to make it ! And after watching this video, I can see why. Shelly cannot hold a candle to Selena. Shelly does not have star quality. She has a weak voice and very little stage presence. I apologize to these girls' fans, but I'm just being honest. Maybe I shouldn't be so honest, but....

iwillalwaysloveselena Quintanilla-Perez ... sounds to me like the only reason you follow Tejano music is because of Selena to me... if that weren't true.. then you would know that Elida Reyna... is the 2nd female and 2nd Tejano artist .. to win a Grammy.. something no one has done since Selena... fame aside.. i'd consider that a great accomplishment for her and Tejano music... true .. Tejano music may only regional now.. doesn't mean it's dead... to judge Shelly Lares on her singing abilities on this video... is pretty .. stupid ... i think.... Selena and Shelly Lares are two different people as well as have two completely different vocal ranges and musical styles.. my suggestion would be to look her up on youtube...as well as Elida Reyna.. Tejano music... is not just Selena...

Without Selena, Tejano music may as well be dead. The fact is Selena is way better then all these other Tejano singers. She is the Queen of Tejano. Tejano may have existed before Selena was born, But none of the Tejano singers was able to take the music mainstream english market and become successful.If Selena had lived, year after year you would hear more more great songs in both in English and Spanish. She would be greater and greater, year after year.I am not Spanish and i always idolize Selena since 1993, i was only 12 when i would hear her music on the radio and watch her music videos on television.

When I was a kid I use to really like Shelly Lares, maybe even a bit more than Selena. I really don’t remember why, I think maybe because we saw her perform more often than we did Selena. Selena was hitting that big time so like the smaller family shows Shelly would perform. I remember having her cassette “apaga la luz.” Not sure if her music aged as well as Selena’s tho.
