One of the funniest things about George was that for a guy who complained constantly about his love life, he did really, really well.

it's kind of hard for a tv producer to ask for "ugly chicks" when finding roles. so that's why the girls are waaay better looking than the ones for a real life george constanza. and jerry as well (his version of himself was a small time comedian, not a millionaire one)

Others: Denise Richards (Molly Dalrymple), Wilford Brimley (Postmaster General Atkins), Lauren Graham (Valerie), Marlee Matlin (lineswoman Laura), Stephen Tobolowsky (Tor Eckman), Sarah Silverman (Emily), Jeremy Piven (TV George), Stephen Root (bank manager), Jon Lovitz (Gary Fogel), Cary Elwes (David), Alexandra Wentworth (Sheila/Shmoopy), Robert Wagner/Jill St. John (Mickey's parents), Judge Reinhold (Aaron), Lloyd Bridges (Izzy Mandelbaum), Helen Slater (Becky Gelke), James Rebhorn (DA Hoyt), John Kapelos (Barry the sniffer), Paul Gleason (Cushman), Sab Shimono (Japanese TV executive), Chelsea Noble (Danielle), Suzanne Cryer (Yada yada Marcy), Ana Gasteyer (soup nazi customer), Kyle Gass (smoking guy), Mitzi McCall (Donna), Jon Gries (Rusty), Carol Kane (Corinne), Tony Plana (Manny), Philip Baker Hall (library cop Bookman), Paul Benedict (Elinoff), Tim Bagley (store manager), Kevin McDonald (denim vest guy), Tobin Bell (Ron), Wendie Malick (Wendie with the bad hair) plus half of Ron Howard's family. Sure, most of those are "That Guy" character actors, but they have massive bodies of work that arguably surpass people featured in this video. A handful of people show up as voices only, perhaps most notably Robby Benson, the voice of the mysterious movie buff; and legendary Yankee Stadium PA announcer Bob Sheppard. Apparently Phil Hartman and Marsha Mason lent voices to various episodes, so now I have to go back and find those. As others have pointed out, there are the various New York Yankees, each of whom played themselves. Funny to think that had Seinfeld run a few years earlier, we would have seen Stump Merrill instead of Buck Showalter on there. Also appearing as themselves are Rudy Giuliani, David Letterman, Geraldo Rivera, Alex Trebek, Bette Midler, Jon Voight, Al Roker, Bryant Gumbel, Fred Savage, Marisa Tomei, Mel Torme, George Wendt, Corbin Bernsen, Jay Leno, Candice Bergen, Regis Philbin/Kathie Lee Gifford. Honorable mention goes to the Flying Karamozovs, who played a fictional version of themselves. Not surprisingly, we saw a bunch of veteran comedians from the stand-up circuit, such as Mario Joyner, Allan Havey, Brian Posehn, Rick Overton, Dom Irrera, Patton Oswalt, John Pinette, Dana Gould and George Wallace. But you did get two comedians to become recurring characters in Brad Garrett and Kathy Griffin. And since I'm doing this deep dive through IMDB, it's pretty cool how often the writers and executives get little cameos throughout the series. Larry David is the most obvious because of how frequent his appearances were and how famous he became. The real Russell Dalrymple, a.k.a. Warren Littlefield, is in the audience when the fake Jerry show is taped. Larry Charles has the best writer cameo, though - he's the guy who stunk up the airplane bathroom before Elaine goes in.

The title is a bit misleading in that Seinfeld seldom featured celebrity "cameos." Maybe Marissa Tomei or Keith Hernandez might count, but most often these were soon-to-be famous actors in real, meaningful roles. Even the celebrities playing themselves were woven pretty seamlessly into the plot and humor of a given episode. Contrast this to other sitcoms of the era where a character might suddenly exclaim "I can't believe it's legendary fashion commentator and icon Joan Rivers!" followed by ten minutes of studio applause. Seinfeld really was innovative in terms of "fat-cutting" in it's scripts and making sure even potential stunt casting served the purpose of the story.

I find it hard to believe how so many people hate George Costanza's character. He is every one of us's inner thoughts, much like Larry David in Curb (on whom the character was based in the first place). In my case the longer I watched Seinfeld - and I'm on something like a 7th or 8th rewatch - the character of George only becomes more relatable. But I understand if he can be annoying at first.
