The Astrolabe was a tool used by the Muslims to locate the starts and navigate accordingly . Therefore it was an important tool for exploring the oceans and seas .

The new creation’s patterned dial echoes that of a marine astrolabe, an ancient navigational tool considered one of the most commonly recovered artifacts from underwater archaeological sites. The design captures the complexity of the astrolabe, and one can sense the adventurous spirit of those who explored the high seas in a bygone era.

I like small boxes. I try to save all of them. They help preserve value in resale. The large boxes are cool, but they sit in a closet unless I decide to sell a watch. I might need a bigger closet!😱

Can't say I'm excited by this one. A satin black bezel might have toned things down a little. I'll stick with my SPB143.

Another SPB153 owner here love that watch ⌚. Just give me a Seiko Commander Pogue Speedtimer recreation faithful to the original. That's all I want 😅

SLA017 still the best

I always felt if seiko could have made the 62 mas , in different dial colours, in everbrilliant steel with on the fly adjustment bracelet, and regulated the 8L movement, then they could have rivalled omega and rolex in the elite diver category. Priced around 5k they would have really pushed new boundaries. Even 2 sizes like a 40mm and a 42mm , and make them standard models within the sla range. The sla 043, is a great watch, if it had the movement regulated, and a beautiful bracelet, it would be perfect. The sla065 is a cheaper offering , that lacks in quality compared to the other sla models.

Seiko would probably never do that and stick to their current formula of every couple years make a small run limited edition. As they know there is not a huge market for high end Seikos. Personally, I would love to see a 38mm 62MAS in ever brilliant a true modern remake of the original 62mas. I would ditch my bb58 so fast if they could do that and keep it under 12.5mm thick.

@@EscapementWatch thats what I'm saying though, seiko should have made a high end 62 mas, in various colourways and sizes, and materials. At first it might have been slow in sales, but in time , people would realise what a great product they can actually produce. Omega make lots of options on their flagship models . So why can't seiko ? They don't have to be limited, just tiers. Ie seiko 5 , prospex, sla ? Its only been since 2015 that the high end sla lines were introduced, but there is a lot of interest in them now. The sla are basically a grand seiko item, bearing the seiko name .

@@EscapementWatch I disagree. I think there is demand for high end Seikos. I just purchased a SJE093, and a King Seiko reissue. If I had the money, I would purchase an SLA033 too. I think the fact that there are so many people modding Seikos or making watches that look like the original vintage Seikos like the 62MAS and the Captain Willard, shows that people want an actual replica of the originals.

There is also going to be a gold case version with a champagne dial and brown strap. Limited to 300

The original Astrolabe was invented by the Greeks to determine the position of stars and geografical positions. In the 1400’s the Portuguese invented the Nautical Astrolabe which was used to determine the latitude and direction of the ships during nautical exploration… that’s the connection.

1:06 You pronounced it correctly - it is not that hard. You are right: it has nothing to do with diving but has to do with sailing - go figure.

Not astrology, astronomy. It could be used to determine latitude thus it was used for navigation. I suppose the fact that it could be used at sea (the mariner's astrolabe) is the connection to the dive watch, tenuous as it might be.

Prefer the SLA043 by far! Bezel reminds me of the SPB213, happy with that! The SPB is much cheaper.

Very kool but the only Seiko I want to see 👀 is a Commander Pogue Speedtimer automatic not solar in Gold, black ⚫ and blue dial. Already have a Seiko prospex SPB153 so I'm good. That's the the one I really want. If I ever get another Seiko diver. It will be the Seiko tuna Marine master

This one doesn’t do it for me. The faux lume just doesn’t work on it, but I’m sure they wanted to do it to differentiate it from the previously released blue SLA 62 MAS’. Also, I never was bother by the prospex logo, but on their more expensive divers (like the aforementioned SLA 62 MAS), it looks much better without the logo.

I wish to get my hands on the Thailand LE MM300 SLA068.

Sadly, it looks like a modded SBP051, just with a better movement and more intersting dial. An SLA043 is much better, without the Prospex logo.

Does this one have a ceramic bezel insert?

Because they added a chapter ring this time. So that the ISO lume pip requirement doesn't break up the chapter ring like it was doing after the change.

I don't like this watch. It looks like an SPB with a too busy dial, and the faux aged markers are ugly. Thumbs down.

The Prospex ‘X’ symbol is the tackiest logo getting around. 👎👎👎
