Be honest, nothing much make different from them, Seiko get more loves than Citizen with it well known names, but let down by the quality issues in these days, Orient still need go a long way to build up the name for the watches enthusiast . That's left the Citizen become a top choice for the dive watches lover today.

I haven't used the Seiko or the Orient, but up to purchasing the Citizen NY0040 I've worn watches with the crown in the 3 o'clock position. The Citizen with the crown in the 8 o'clock position is the winner for me, the most comfortable 200 metre watch I've ever worn, no digging into the wrist whatsoever.

I have always taken screw down crown watches off to adjust them, mainly to make sure I don't cross thread the crown doing it up, so the Citizen took no getting used to. Oh, sure, a tiny bit having the crown on the other side when adjusting, agreed, but minimal and of no account when the comfort of the watch is considered. Imo of course.

Excellent and helpful review! So I bought the Orient because I love that brand and you comments too.

After having 4 different automatic Orients and Seikos and having some small collection of Jap-Swiss quartz i'd say that i will go for Citizen Promaster since it is lot more than a tool watch as EDC stated. But, timekeeping in Orients is simply awesome, so why i do not buy a Mako Ray.

i wanted the new orient blue ray 2 the other week but they were all sold out...must be a very popular watch right now...i bought a seiko instead...

What is the strap on the Citizen? It looks great!

I just bought a Citizen Promaster Automatic, NY0040-09W. The luminous dial version. Just wanted something different for the collection. I own an Skx009 and a Orient Mako XL.

I have an SKX007 and a blue Mako (the Ray's older brother). In terms of overall quality, fit and finish the Mako/Ray has it IMO. Interestingly, my Mako is from late 2015 and came with an upgraded 120 click bezel (I imagine this would be the same for the newer Rays). The SKX007 just has that x-factor that makes it great. If I were in the market I would definitely consider the Promaster. This video presents three very excellent options for an affordable diver.

Great video. I have the orange ray also blue. The dials are super visible well as gorgeous the stock bracelet is cool too i think. I just got the promaster 0040 blue version and it looks as good as the ray blue. So out of the 3 i have i prefer the citizen. Now i have the 84 movement which has the hacking and better lume

Orient mako or seiko skx if you can get one.. then skip everything until the tudor gmt pepsi and after that rolex

After doing some research on the orient mako II and Ray II people have said that the crown feels brittle and kind of cheep, if you have owned the 2nd generation how odd you feel about it.

That's good, I've asked around quite alot and people say there all so good it's hard to pick so I decided I may as well go for either the promaster, or the ray or mako

I used to love my Seiko map meter 200M rating, but once I own a Citizen diver 200M rating, the lume kill me. For me the lume of Citizen last longer even thought Seiko lume is very bright in the first 5 minute

The Citizen beats both in precision of quality...and i do own all three of them.

I owned an Orient and sold it, and still own an SKX and NY0040. NY0040 is slightly better than SKX in my opinion.

The misaligned chapter rings on Seikos always kill me, just kill me. That 12-hour marker is not even close to properly centered. Be it any other product, we'd call it out and say defective, but Seiko always gets a free pass when they continually do it, even with their $400-500 pieces. ( And yes I own at least one of those)

3 great watches, I prefer the Citizen on other strap and color. Nice Bugs Bunny voice, makes the presentation more funny!

All great watches out of the three for the price! There is no superior! Buy what you like, cant go wrong...

SKX has the best looking bracelet on the wrist, even if it's cheap.

Just wish the citizen had the crown on the 4.00 position.. 😫 it being on my left arm, trying to adjust it with right hand without removing watch.. It would nearly dislocate your right shoulder😆😆😆

First you can take the Orient out of the running because it isn't an iso certified dive watch. So this basically comes down to 2 DIVE watches.

I just bought an Orient Blue Ray II with hacking and hand winding. This watch is definitely better than the Skx009 and the Citizen Promaster Automatic, NY0040-09W that I own.

I have learned that, sadly, the iconic SKX007 has been discontinued. Existing stocks should be plentiful but once they're gone they're gone! The newly re-released Turtle (SRP777) nominally could be considered in lieu. As Gunner is already aware I own a black Ray and fully agree with his observations and review conclusions. It is a great watch and perfect for an entry level diver/all-rounder. The updated Ray, recently released, has been further improved. Thanks again Gunner for a very fair and comprehensive review.

I've never scratched a Seiko crystal. Unfortunately I've scratched many citizen crystals. It my opinion the Japanese build as good a watch as anybody and better than most everybody. Seiko,Citizen are my favorites.

Scratched my Seiko crystal. Had it less than a year. Infuriating.

Orient Ray / Mako is ruined by the white day / date window. It should be the same color as the dial. Citizen is best with applied indices and black day / date. Not a fan of leather straps for dive watches. Nato strap or some nice flat rubber. Mako is maybe the dressiest and esthetically pleasing. but that date window is really distracting. I think the Seiko is overpriced for not being hackable and hand windable. I had both the SKX007 and the Orient Mako. Sold both. The Orient bezel was slippery and hard to turn in the water / with wet hands . Almost useless. I now have the Citizen promaster Eco Drive BN0150. It hacks so it is easy to set the correct time. Lume seems to last longer than the Seiko. I think Citizen offers the sapphire crystal upgrade as a replacement of mineral crystal. Great value. The eco drive version is better as the minute hand has an orange outline that makes it really easy to tell what minute it is.

Seiko SKX is the best Diver on Earth 👍🏼.

I have a slx007 and trust me even the watch street vendors have a spare parts of this shit, the most important of this watch is the case and the rotating bezel, the rest of parts is available here hahaha cheap parts but original best watch is skx007 and 009

Citizen has the best bezel feel. Orient is the best watch. SKX has a unique look and I think he best looking.

its not, mine first gen is dark blue most of the time is black anyways I gone down that road bought black than sold it and got myself blue, much nicer

You can't go wrong with any of these watches. Swiss watches are way over rated. I much prefer Japanese watches. They offer great value, great quality and they are pretty much bullet proof. Since they aren't expensive, you don't have to baby them like an overpriced Swiss watch.

@@juniorjohnson5961 I never got the promaster, but I have my regular echo drive I use as a beater; You shouldn't have any problems with the promaster from what I know about them, they should be able to upstand a lot of wear and tear, just don't keep it away from light for more than 6 months and everything should stay cool with it.

Blue ray is the nicest!

The review we were waiting for 😀 I like all of them, but as a black ray proud owner, I can say I love it. Even the Orient bracelet is not bottom tier. In terms of poor quality bracelets (not the watch), Vostok amphibia has really bad rating on that aspect. As a watch, Amphibia is amazing 'though.

Seiko skx any day

The only thing that puts me off mechanical/automatic watches is the accuracy. COSC? - 4 to +6 + secs/ 24 hrs? Not good enough to contend with my obsessive disorder. Submariner and Seamaster? + or - 2 secs/24hrs? Better. However, seven years ago when I bought my Citizen Promaster, out came my horology kit (Case-back removal tool, sewing needle, sober right hand) and for the next 5 weeks went to work and got it down to +0.4 sec/24hrs, but since then, it’s gone to pieces! It is now consistently + 0.5 sec/24 hrs. Should I have another bash at it to improve? Decisions decisions… 🤔 PS: I wear it 24 hours a day except for getting in the shower. Does this make a difference? If it does, please don’t confuse me with someone who gives a f 🤡🤔

Spend a few bucks more and get the Ray II hackable and windable

Orient is the best on paper but lacks something in reality for me. Part of it is the name and logo- it just looks and sounds cheap to me. "Orient" sounds like a cheap Chinese brand that you'd win out of a machine at the fayre. Seiko has the x factor but the non hacking and handwinding movement and misaligned chapter ring (which you "have to accept") are ridiculous in 2018. Citizen makes the most sense for me... but in honesty I'd just pay a bit more and get a seiko blumo on a crafter blue strap. It's double the price but still cheap and it's a much better watch. If you don't have the finds for that a samurai or turtle are not much more

The Orient is a great watch but states water resistant to 200m.........then list itself in the handbook as only to be used for "skin diving" Come on Orient.......who the hell is going to "skin dive" to 200m...it's sooooo cold at that depth..........

Because 200m water resistance has _zero_ to do with diving to 200 meters. "Water Resistant 20 atm or 200 m Suitable for professional marine activity, serious surface water sports and skin diving. Suitable for skin diving." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_Resistant_mark#Water_resistance_classification

Orient is fab and most accurate. Citizen is superb and windable, unlike the seiko.. A these watches are superb! I own them all. If I had to choose I would go for the Citizen

Just got a mako2 blue as they were crazy cheap £99 including delivery and taxes from USA. It's a great watch for the money, looks nice on a navy nato or a leather strap.if you're not a watch geek I'd recommend it as a really sensible and amazing value automatic watch but for me it lacks something... the brand is a bit meh, the logo looks cheap and the name sounds cheap to me. It's become my bath and bedtime watch (the only place below this is my 'manual labour watch'- a g shock) That x factor might be subjective though so try one and see if it works for you as on paper they're great and they do look great... they just miss 'something' for me

Seiko is poor quality. you have to wear it every day to know that.

Seiko made poor quality watches. time keeping is totally out.
