Excellent video very informative i currently own an f30 which overheats after just a mile and then every mile I plan on buying this to go 6-10 miles just around town for some fresh air looks like a great scooter if you take the website with a grain of salt and I appreciate you being open about your weight and that you’re heavier than recommended. Overall 10/10 video

Thanks for that, that was really informative, it's good to see what has changed for better and worse, I'm from Australia (also applies to the EU), our legal max speed on e-scooters is set to 15.5 miles/hr (25 km/hr)

At 15.5 miles per hour it will last longer but i would still be concerned about the braking part with the drum. I adjusted my brake and it still performs pretty poorly as i demonstrated. 😅 still a good scooter if you ride it on flat surface rodes. Maybe 22 miles per hour is too fast for the drum brake. 🤔

@car_tar3882 on weak mode yes. I tried the strong mode and within 2 minutes my Max G2 started to smell like something electrical was burning. 😬 so i immediately turned it off and this was in both drive mode and sport mode. I found weak to be the best regen braking setting, kinda wish Segway would have done Off, weak and medium. Instead of Off, weak and strong. Strong just feels way too aggressive on the regen braking.

It's good that you are bringing light on this topic, The motor have been limited noticeably with this update. Not only does it have less Peak and continuous output, but in steep uphills it limits the motor down to 850W. There are multiple hills i could do before, but now it seems like the g2 goes into a protection mode if it encounters a steep hill

Starting 2018 i have been using $30-50 speed controllers that do not require any updates. So far I fried one, but I am running 20 amps on 1000watt motor almost all the time and it will do the 28 mph and 25 no problem. Pedaling really does help to make you go faster than cars at the light. Now my battery is a 52v 1,300 watt hours. I did all the spot welding putting that battery together and wrapped it in pads from exercise mats. Learning to spot weld was not that hard, bit you do have to find answers, like you have to clean the copper tips with sand paper or it wont weld right sometines. My battery cost me around $550 and does not get hot at all. I have climed 1000 feet and did have to help peddling up a mountain and the motor hub got quite hot but survived. The main issues I had was melting wires together, the wires that go into the hub motor, but was able to replace them before speed controller fried. On my other bike the speed controller fried and the wires never melted together, so I suppose it just could not handle the 54.6 volt battery, thats how high q 52v gets when fully charged. It is fine with another 48v speed controller ao far. So my main point is is that I perfer to strip out all those electronics and put my own controllers in there that I buy from China on eBay.

I like your idea. Im actually thinking of swapping out the battery for a 48 volts battery and upgrading the drum brake to disk brake. Now that i have a GT1 and inmotion rs, i very much prefer the disc brake system than drum brakes. As for battery overheating on the GT1, it hasn't happened at all. But it has been cold so i would like to test this out again during the summer time.

I took the plunge and bought the G2! I'm pretty happy with it a few days in....the only issue I have so far is that its extremely heavy. For now, I haven't updated any of the firmware updates after watching your videos because I don't want to lose speed and I haven't had over heating issues, but its a much smoother ride than the public scooters in Los Angeles I've been using like Bird. I purchased on Amazon during the Black Friday sale for 899.99 but now its about $90 cheaper! Wish Amazon would offer price matching/adjustments but no luck :(

It came to my mind that 55C+ could cause a battery explotion. 60C+ i think its the sweet spot for a battery fire, Im̀ not sure, but i think it is. I`m currently saving for a GT2. Right now i have a Segway g30Max, but it is too slow. I do 32 Km every now and then in that scooter, it' s a warrior.

@hectorvillarruel4947 i was thinking that too about 55C and the battery exploding or leaking acid which would then cause a fire. Thankfully though i only use this for about 10 to 11 miles round trip for small errands. So the highest i ever get it when i do these little trips is about 36 to 38C. 😬 The GT2 is a great choice in fact i meant every word when i said the GT2 is my number 1 choice. Out of all the scooters i mentioned, its priced well, the speed is more than enough for me as well woth 43 miles per hour even if i get 41 miles per hour that is great! The GT2 is also made very well and looks very sturdy. Because the GT2 is Segway's flagship, they give premium support for it.

@@THEAVERAGEGUY1983 I`m thinking of buying the GT2 from Alienrides. The offer warranty (besides Segway standard warranty) and, for the moment, are the ones that can export it to México. The Mantis GTR its another one in my mind, but i think it does not have a celular interface, so....what about firmware updates? Segway eMoped B110S its another contender. It can go up to 45km/h with a range of 50Km...but, what about car traffic? Here in Guadalajara, drivers are rude to everyone on the road and go very fast. I have a lot in my mind, but it seems that the GT2 its winning the game. Have fun and i really enjoy your videos. Regards, Villarruel

I built a 4p battery, a 52v 13s, 12 amp hour, 640 watt hour and that one can get hot if I run constantly at 1000w. But the 8p, 52v 13s, 24 amp hour, 1280 watt hour battery that I build does not get warm and I have run that at 1000w for 30 minutes non stop. So there is my formula to keeping a battery from getting hot, make it big. Oh and I can go average speed of 20mph for 1.4 hours about at 285 pounds , so around 28 miles on big battery. This is on a ebike kit, not a scooter, 26" hub motor from a $150 ebioe kit on a large frame 29" wheeled bike.

I've got one on the way and I really can't wait to get it. I can legally ride this in Melbourne Australia without any trouble. That is what excites me the most about it. There are far more powerful, bigger and expensive scooters, but I would get in trouble for riding them here. The g2 is perfect, and if it has a sneaky top speed of 35kmh instead of 25kph, then that's even better.

@hanoitripper1809 walk it in mate, not many people have a problem with it. Otherwise, keep lock mode on, abnormality alert mode on, and a small combination lock. The abnormality alert will sound an alarm if someone is carrying this away, etc. The lock mode means it will lock the brakes and regen motor if someone powers on and tries to ride away without the password. Also, putting a bike lock will make it harder to steal. Just remember a thief that is keen enough will get through any lock or deterrent. Walking it in with you or keeping it within viewing distance is the best way to protect your investment.

The speedometer over reading your actual speed is fairly common in pretty much all vehicles. In things like cars and motorcycles it comes from the fact that some countries have legal requirements that speedometers cannot under report on speed, but can under report by 10%. Due to this most manufacturers now make speedometers to over report by default. So honestly the small amount it over reports on the Segway is actually very good. It's not far off at all.

@THEAVERAGEGUY1983 ohh yeah, undoubtedly. There was only going to be one way for Segway to address the overheating issue. And that is the reduce motor power draw, which will cost torque. At the end of the day Segway will want to target and priorities reliability over raw power. It's better for them to reduce the power a bit and improve the reliability. It kinda sucks, but it's what it is.

You state that you weigh 300+ pounds and we know the Max G2 spec shows it's rated for 265 pounds which means you're overloading the scoot by 15%. Therefore, the top speed, acceleration and hill climbing ability are bound to be less than the scoots rating. I'm surprised that you expect that overloading this scooter or anything else similar wouldn't have a negative effect. Even 747s have a weight limit and check it before every flight. It just makes sense that to much weight slows you down. I'm sticking with my support of the Segway Max G2.

Well, when i made the previous video, i made it with heavy riders in mind, and even in this video, i am well aware of how much heavier i am. I literally mentioned that your speed and range will depend on your weight and weather conditions in this exact video, But even in my previous video i was able to go a bit faster than now, over time as i continue to lose weight the Max G2 will get better. This content was not intended for slim people under 200 pounds. This was also a response to Ginger On Wheels, who also complained at 230lbs about the Max G2 overheating before reaching any type of incline. I still think the scooter did great, and for what i use it for, it's still a great choice. Thank you for watching and for commenting your opinion.

Sorry if it seemed like I was critical of your weight....I wasn't. I was concerned that people would think these 2 wheeled hootmobiles weren't subject to the normal laws of physics. When the engineers design these things, they have to be very careful of the wattage/torque of the motors and the battery power to move both the rider and the scoot around. Bigger motor(s) means larger battery which adds up to higher costs thus reducing marketability. I'm certain that lots of buyers don't read or understand the specs but they sure see the sales price and expect a $600 scooter to do what a $2,000 scooter can do. I still enjoy your videos my friend. Keep riding!

@johnwebsterification correct. There is another firmware being talked about at the moment that might give the torque that was lost back. I hope they roll that update out so i can test it. Im now at 292lbs so im still on.the heavy side but even lighter than in this video. It would be bad if it got worse lol. I got almost 200 miles on my MAX G2 now. Most of it is for small errands less than 12 miles and for that the scooter does excellent as long as regen braking/Kenetic Energy stays off, it wont get too hot on the battery temp or lose too much range. Funny that regen braking is supposed to push power back into the scooter while forcing the rear wheel to brake when letting go of the throttle but it actually makes the range shorter. 😅

So I have the updated to the latest firmware and I have not noticed any difference in Torque or top speed so I don't understand why some are experiencing a reduction in performance while some it hasn't affected it like me. I weight 170 lbs but regardless of the weight of the rider as a fixed variable since not everyone is trying to lose weight, we should have ALL noticed a difference. This is rather stange and makes me question Segways lack of creating constistency among the G2's that leave their factory.

  • @THEAVERAGEGUY1983

    @THEAVERAGEGUY1983

Yep, there is another MAX G2 owner who did a couple of test rides of his max G2, he goes by the youtube name (Tom's Gadget Garage) and he briefly mentioned that he noticed a slow down in torque but he didnt make a big deal out of it like i did. I guess i could feel it more since im heavier, lol. But yeah not everyone is trying to lose weight like i am so seeing that this is happening to some and not to others regardless to rider weight limit, it's definitely something Segway needs to address but if there aren't that many people reporting this, they may not do anything about it. I would be concerned to update the master control again, as I wouldn't want to go backward on the better experience, i would rather take the slower torque than go back to hi temp warnings at 31C to 36C 😅

Range should not be a problem. In eu its blocked to 25km/h so it drains slower. We have semi hilly terrain in croatia so that my main concern if it will still overheat. We have like a 2 mile not so steep hill to get to campus. Thanks

At the 26 minute mark what is the beeping telling you? Oh, I see. it is a battery capacity warning

Good question, that consistent beep was the scooter lettung me know that it reaches 20% battery life. When that happens the scooter does slow down in speed and once it reaches 10% battery, the scooter will go down to Limp Mode which slows down to 6 miles per hour till the battery dies.

@randeepgill2054 it sounds like a battery issue. Do you remember when was the last time you used it and what battery percentage it was at? This happened to me once but it was because i let the battery drop to 4% and it took forever for the max g2 to recognize a charge. From there i stopped going lower than 10% in the battery because i was concerned about it breaking on me. The other option would be to contact segway and try to get some support from them. If you have the app see if you can get it to turn on with the app. Ive had issues with powering mine down where the app doesnt want to shut it down and i then have to physically press the button down on the max G2.

In a way yes. Ive put some of my updates on hold but then when a second or third update comes up. The app forces the update 😅

@@THEAVERAGEGUY1983 hmm okay I'll have to find a way to not let that happen because I am planning to buy a G2 max soon. Unless there's a better option in the same price range

Those mirrors are just for show, I haven't found any mirrors that are useful for the g2.

I got them to work for me, but finding the right mirrors for your specific needs can be tough. These work pretty well, but it took me quite some time to adjust them right. I had to semi tighten the back of the mirrors so that they can still move to adjust but not wobble if i go over an uneven road. Once i found the right spot, i used the included allen wrench to tighten it more so it stays put, but it's not perfect. However, it does work. I do wish the stem or neck of the mirrors were at least 3 inches longer, then, they would be the shit 😎. If i ever find some good ones, I'll let you know here in the comments. Even though i have these mirrors, im still looking for the right ones. Some dudes even got creative and got a front and rear dashcam for some of their other branded scooters. I think the brand they use is Wolfbox, it looks like a rear view mirror but its actually a screen with a built in camera plus wired rear camera that uses USB C power. Im thinking of getting the version that has a 10 inch wide screen and attach it to a handlebar extension and see how it works. 👌

Did you happen to film any of these hill climbs while you had the 1.4.4 firmware? You might be uniquely positioned to demonstrate in a split screen video just how much the nerf reduced its performance from the performance everyone who watched any video in the last three months is expecting. I was a breath away from ordering a G2 max when I first started catching wind of the firmware in youtube comments. It is not just the reduced torque, but 1.4.8 wont allow you to connect third party apps. Now my decision is either rush to get one immediately hoping it still has 1.4.4 out of the box and try to activate it with third party apps and forever have to take precautions against it updating itself. Or, just give it a hard pass. Maybe Segway didn't intentionally do this but they effectively baited the market with content creators making videos of a scooter that will not be the performance of the scooter I would get. Segway. I'm out. I went from lusting hard for this scooter to now being very comfortable waiting to see what else comes out by next spring.

Unfortunately, my gopro hero 10 got the videos corrupted as it was being loaded to my phone with GPS information on as the only way you can get the GPS info is by using the app and adding what is called a Sticker of that GPS info. But i would have Definitely made the comparison. I would honestly pass on the MAX G2 for now and maybe wait for a BIG Sale that will bring the price down to the $799.99 i paid as i dont want anyone else to get worse performance if segway does another firmware update that makes things worse lol.

In your last G2 video you had a long slight incline early in the ride when the battery was full and it even has the speedometer in view. kzread.info/dash/bejne/mWajp8tqdr3gZ6Q.htmlsi=jByd2ZMDflR7G-lH&t=361 This section of road might make a good comparison to how it pulls the same hill now. You could even carry weights to exactly match your weight at the time of the first video.

You shouldn't be riding this scooter!!!😮.265lbs rating is a big BS. 200LBS is the better riding weight!!! No wonder it's dangerously heats up🥵 🔥!!! I think its for 180lbs max.🎉😂❤.

Yeah i agree. I do feel that its better suited for riders 200Lbs or lighter. However i am also part of Segway's Beta Testing program so i was reporting video data for them as well. Though their nominal max weight is 265Lbs, at the time i was told that 300Lbs was fine but not to expect the promised performance they are claiming. So i figured ill revisit the max G2 when i go down to 265 and re do this test and give other people interested in this scooter a real point of view on performance. There are much better choices now from new electric scooter companies giving more speed, disk brakes, larger battery and dual motors for a couple hundred dollars more. Back when i got this there wasnt that many options at the price or close to it.
