I can’t believe I forgot to mention the motor! It’s a 750 W rear hub motor. A little slow to accelerate and loses about half the speed going up steep hills. Makes me wish the pedals are more functional.

A 750w rear hub motor is fast when installed on a bicycle. The C80 is an electric moped (aka motorcycle). The extra body weight is what slows this down.

Hi Logan, I also live in South Cal but on the coast side. I answered your question how and when to ride the ebike/moped. I'm using ebike for my daily commuting. I live in a coastal city with OK bike lane support. Do your research on your trip to find the path with most dedicated bike lane to ensure the safety first. Also make sure your speed can go up to around 30 mph(class 3 ebike) coz it's wayyyy more safer to keep up with car traffic when you have to ride this thing on bike/car share lane.I don't have issue for storage since l only have lunch, safety gear, and windproof cloth in my backpack. I travel faster in the rush hour than car. Feel good to ditch the car. Now my car is costco goer and road trip warrior.

This would be perfect in Scandinavia. Petrol Mopeds are allowed here in bicycle lanes and parks, there are charge points all over the city and most apartment buildings have a garage for bicycles and ebikes. This is literally a perfect city bike for Scandinavian countries and Holland. Europe is set up for these sorts of vehicles. The only thing it needs is optional snow tires for winter.

Thanks for the thorough review. I think that you made one statement that might be misleading. You State that "you do not NEED insurance." In California, even though you are not REQUIRED to have insurance; you have the same responsibilities as a person driving a car. If you crash into someone, you would be held liable for their damages. (Turn on Daytime TV and there are endless commercials from PI Attorneys that would take a case.) And living in Huntington Beach, I hear complaints about people crashing these things all the time. But more importantly, in CA the insurance and licensing laws are not enforced. People just get insurance if they register their car, and cancel it a few days later. There are a lot of uninsured drivers out there. I would suggest that you have insurance and also uninsured motorist coverage. Also, there is a tremendous amount of bike theft in costal cities. You need to ask your insurance agent about it, your auto policy probably does not cover e-bikes. You might need to get a rider on your homeowners/renters insurance.

You are correct about the pedals and the reason being legal. Moped = MOtor assisted PEDal powered vehicle. - The laws on them are far more like those on bicycles. In the United States, at least back when I went to University and was there for an exchange program (so a while ago, mind you), scooters, no matter what size/class/power/etc, gas or electric... all required a driver's license and in most cases insurance. They also had to be registered and had fees to keep that active. However... a moped was basically legally considered the same as a bicycle with a leaf blower engine strapped to the back. They were popular among certain groups of people who had lost their licenses due to whatever reason, as it still beat walking/cycling/taking the bus.

It's 90 lbs, folds down for storage, and you could probably fit two in a decent (and empty!) sized trunk. I popped a hole in a milk crate for my removable seat post and go shopping right in the aisles with this thing! Aisle to kitchen in under 5 minutes. There are too many bells and whistles on these things and us consumers need to steer the market better cause I also bring 80 lbs of tools on the train to go to jobs. That depends on how you measure ‘clean energy’. Even in those parts of the world that continue to generate electricity with dirty energy (coal, gat etc), this bike doesn’t use gas, oils or require the likes of filters and spark plugs. So it’s through life negative impact on the environmental footprint would still be considerably lower than a gas powered bike or car. Not good enough, but better.

Does it have a VIN? If it has a serial number instead of a VIN then it can't be registered with the DMV and skirts many issues.it's only a matter of time before the government restricts throttle powered bikes compared to pedal assist that a person actually need to propel an e-bike.

I've been looking into getting an e-bike for the last few months, but the lack of a better security system has been holding me back. Smart security features seem cool and all, but I'd much prefer a heavy duty built-in chain that I can quickly use to chain the e-bike to a post. Living in San Francisco, I'm pretty sure someone would carry my bike off if I parked it outside for an hour.

I'm using ebike for my daily commuting. I live in a coastal city with OK bike lane support. Do your research on your trip to find the path with most dedicated bike lane to ensure the safety first. Also make sure your speed can go up to around 30mph (class 3 ebike) coz it's wayyyy more safer to keep up with car traffic when you have to ride this thing on bike/car share lane. I don't have issue for storage since I only have lunch, safety gear, and windproof cloth in my backpack. I travel faster in the rush hour than car. Feel good to ditch the car. Now my car is costco goer and road trip warrior.

I'm afraid there are so many things missing from this review: 1; Can you charge the battery off the bike and if so how heavy is the battery? 2; Does the bike come with a charger and, if it does, how convenient is it to carry and how long does it take to charge? 3; Given that you can't pedal the bike, what is it's hill-climbing ability. What is the power output of the motor? 4; What size are the wheels and are the tires tubeless, tubed or solid? 5; What is the seat height?

the problem with any electric rideable in so cal is the rules and laws are highly fragmented and vary depending exactly where you are, and might change at any time. also the enforcement is a sketchy grey area where it is not allowed in certain beach areas with a possibility of being fined. but then again, you see electric scooters in the vicinity of the same general area that i think they are fine now. any hardly anyone wears a helmet except experienced riders who own their own equipment. the worst part of it when i am there is the best places to ride it are in the bike paths which are mostly at the beach, which is where you can get stopped and fined.

I mean I recently got one and I live in NJ. Not as much traffic as in NY, but absolutely love this thing. Yes im sure some drivers do get mad when im driving on the side of the road, but reality is, most bikers do the same so it is what it is. It allows me to get some fresh air and go here and there with no issue. Id say its a win. I feel like 20mph is more than enough, but in terms of acceleration, that is where it lack , i weigh 189lbs, and its does fly off the line, take a minute, and going up steep hills is disappointing cause it barely goes up. But idc the soft ride and the range is what i appreciate. It would be perfect if someone figured out a top speed hack, maybe then, uphills wouldnt be that much of an issue. I might even use it to go to work. But still not sure, only cause I have never gone across the GW bridge. Can anyone confirm that I can drive it across without encountering staircases.

i was hoping it would sell for under $2k.. I would be interested in knowing what the warranty is on the battery, motor, and electronics. I would also like to know does it have a USB output and can the battery be charged while on the bike.. And wondering if this could be charged at EV car public charging ports. I was thinking because this is essentially a bicycle, an easy solution for carrying cargo (depending on how powerful the motor is) is to attach a bicycle trailer to it to transport groceries or other cargo. Also, a solution I found when dealing with potential troublesome cyclists or pedestrians or motorists is to peddle or at least have my feet on the pedals and rotating them around to give the impression i am pedaling the bike while they are looking at me.. as a signal to them that this is actually a bicycle.. which it is.

I could see using it, at just under 300 pounds it seems like the fastest theft would just be someone throwing it into the back of their truck and driving away. There are a lot of e-bikes around here, many that look like motorcycles - of which does confuse drivers but most people seem to be getting used to them.
