This is one of the two channels i trust to offer an accurate representation of a restoration. Too many other channels will use Photoshop and \ or gunk up a clean device to create a false impression of long term grime. There is so much scummyness going on due to the popularity of restoration videos, its more disgusting than the 30 year old grime on a Game Boy buried in a dung heap. Thanks for keeping it real!

I used to work for a company that put arcade cabinets in pubs in the London area; the Play Choice 10 and Mega-Tech were very popular units at the time and took a lot of money for the pubs. The downside was that punters had a habit of resting their pints on the top which would then spill and short out the top monitor (on both systems).

Hey Neil, that was a bargain for sure, especially with the carts in there! I may be able to help you with the 10" monitor. I'll contact you (or you contact me). 😀Also those monitors don't look "original" even though they probably are. Normally they'd have a Euro version of the MTC9000 in both monitors (green square connectors for power, rgb and degauss) like your other cab. This one seems to have a USA version 20" Hanty MTC9000 (clear Mate'N'Lok's for the power, rgb and degauss) and something that looks like a Kortek 10". The crt is original as the SEGA sticker is on there, it could be that the MTC9000 10" chassis went wrong and they swapped in a Kortek 10" chassis (most Kortek and Hanty chassis are the same electrically so the crts can be swapped between them (apart from the high impedance Korteks)). Or it could be that Sega/Deith had to source Kortek 10" monitors for a while. And also, it's not usual to find a Hanty with a replaced lopt, they do get a hammering from long hours (most arcade monitors have had the lopt replaced, more than once!) but I think I remember reading/hearing some time ago that back in the 90's I think Hanty had a problem for a while with some bad batches of lopts from the manufacturer, so not really their fault!

There's something oddly satisfying about watching filthy electronics get cleaned to a pristine state, and I have a feeling future episodes of this one will more than deliver. It'll also be good to see if those games are still working, as in a worst case scenario for the cabinet, the games could pay (or justify the cost) for the whole thing.

Interesting to see that the Mega-Tech included some Master System games, like Astro Warrior, Fantasy Zone, After Burner, etc., but I guess that would make sense since the SMS was still very popular in Europe. Also, very curious to see not just "Raynos", a.k.a. Assault Suit Leynos/Target Earth, on the "Coming Soon" list in that catalog, but also Psy-O-Blade, which never actually saw an official English release at all (but has since gotten an English fan translation).

It may have been said already, but I wonder if that "greasy dust" was dust mixed with cigarette smoke. It looks an awful lot like the dust I saw in second-hand computers of heavy smokers, and it wouldn't have been uncommon for arcades to allow smoking at that time. I can't think of many other reasons it would have that consistency. I have 10+ year old machines (from non-smokers) with dust bunnies that readily release with a puff of air, leaving almost no residue. A very nifty find! Edit: Ha! Not long after I typed this I see you found the cigarette butts. 😂

It's always better to have two than to have one. For full interactive Museum purposes though I'd say 7 or 8 would be the full Idea if you have the full set of games so you could have all the games up and you just have people enjoy them to the fullest. I'd look into reverse engineering the cabinet and making multiples so that you could experience this marvel of Retro entertainment.

200,- WITH games is a bargain, well done! The older mega touch table versions should have an 10" monitor, maybe you are lucky and can grab one from an former operator? And finding new games for the sega can be tricky, I own now 29 cartridges and some of them 2x or 3x :D

Nice find. Definitely got a good deal there. Games alone are worth more than that as you said. That oily dust carpet probably acted like a protective coating 😆Can't wait to see how it looks after. Pity about the top crt, but there must be tv's out there in some other shape or form you can use.

It looks like the unknown guy in the 'artwork' is from the Last Battle game. In the screenshot the character has the same or very similar colour scheme.

So awesome you have not just one but 2 of this legendary Mega Drive hardware, they are certainly in the right hands as are those wonderful games! I’ve played one at mother museum, was so cool to enter cheats into Sonic 2 on an arcade machine! It’s good also that we can easily own this system and experience its games at home in the form of the Sega Mega Drive or see what a Mega Tech was like thanks to emulators! I wonder if a MiSTer variant could be created ☺️👍

This unit must have been used in a Chip shop or some fast food outlet years ago at some stage as you say. Nothing is greasier than a chippy. I can imagine customers pumping coins into it whilst waiting on their food. I did the same as a teenager whenever I encountered an arcade machine in a chip shop. Sometimes I would even visit a local chippy just to play a Rastan machine and not order food and also a squash club as they had a table top version of Scramble in the bar.

By a process of elimination, I think the mystery character is supposed to be Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star, which is localised as Last Battle. He has the power to hit people in just the right place that causes their head to explode - graphically included in the Japanese version of the game, but sadly missing from Last Battle. Also, Neil looking great in full crime scene cleaner garb.
