Sega 32X - Angry Video Game Nerd (AVGN)

Ойындар

The Nerd finds out what another add-on, the 32X, for the Sega Genesis is like, and tries out some of the games that were made for it, including Primal Rage and Doom. This is Angry Video Game Nerd Episode 26.
Released in 1994, Sega intended for this add-on to keep gamers entertained until the launch of the Sega Saturn and as a cheap entry into the 32-bit era. Sega also hoped to see the 32x increase the longevity of the aging Genesis (Mega Drive outside of North America). Today, the system is merely a curiosity and an obscure piece of gaming history. With a small library consisting of graphically improved versions of Genesis games and arcade ports along with the imminent arrival of the Sega Saturn, the 32x flopped and was discontinued roughly only two years after its launch. Though the graphics of some games were decent for the time, some games like Doom were missing content like different levels and had poor sound quality since it used the Genesis' sound chip. Many people see the 32x as the beginning of Sega's eventual downfall in the console market as third parties began to lose faith in Sega. In this Episode, the nerd picks up from where he left off with the Sega CD to look into this worthless parasite of the Sega Genesis. Just how bad is the 32x? Watch to find out.

Like local multiplayer somehow becoming a thing of the past. Want to invite a friend over and throw on a game that you can enjoy with local split screen co-OP? Ha! It's the eighth generation bro.

@@PlanetShlorpian There's still local co-op games being made in PC, console, and even the arcade. There's even Steam with online support for local co-op games by giving them remote access. So I wouldn't really call local multiplayer as a thing in the past. . Keep in mind that not many people are able to huddle up a single screen and just prefer having a big individual screen. Back then, if we had a choice we would take that route. There's also the case where people are just too distant from each other and online is more convenient than physically being there, this is true for having friends overseas.

Every App ever and it isn't like a simple $5 here or a $2.99 there. It is more like a 49.99 here and a $99 here and a $159 there. Basically, it is all overpriced as hell and and it is impossible to progress without doing so unless you want to spend a decade trying to survive long enough to level something up, unless it isn't an RTS game(You get farmed if you aren't rich), but some rules still apply. For example, a new item to equip and give you better stats, but it is only available in the micro-transaction shop and it takes forever to even get it, because they don't make it that simple.

Jon Kelley The way the new gen consoles were made. They had to sacrifice backwards compatibility. The PS4 and X-Box One are made more like PCs and thus, can not read the previous discs due to how the last generation consoles were produced. 1:36 The RF shields for the 32X & CD aren’t required for either model. It’s just there cause Sega was scared of interference. Only piece of metal you need is just the CD’s joining plate to mount the Genesis to it As for the plugs, today you’re able to avoid that BS by getting a TRIO AC adapter Also, TerraOnion released a flashcart called the MegaSD that has the tech to run Genesis, CD, & 32X games (not sure about the CD 32X games though). Makes for a better method to homebrew. Hell, Pier Solar was mind blowing to most for enhancing the audio Another thing worth mentioning, there’s now reproductions of Sega CD games. I managed to get my hands on Snatcher for like $50 that’s like a normal cib copy

If there is a better way to start 2021 than with a random AVGN video I don't want to know it.

The reason behind skimping out on the edge labels: Production costs. It tokk quite an advanced machine or human workforce to attach these "over the edge" labels. By skipping the edge label, going for a simple one side label, they could use simple labeling machines to a fraction of the cost of the previous label methods. But did that make games cheaper?. No! Guess where the money went?
