Lyrics:
I wanted you to know I love the way you laugh
I want to hold you high and steal your pain away
I keep your photograph, and I know it serves me well
I want to hold you high and steal your pain
'Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you've gone away
You've gone away
You don't feel me here anymore
The worst is over now and we can breathe again
I want to hold you high, and steal my pain away
There's so much left to learn, and no one left to fight
I want to hold you high and steal your pain
'Cause I'm broken when I'm open
And I don't feel like I am strong enough
'Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away
'Cause I'm broken when I'm open
And I don't feel like I am strong enough
'Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away
'Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away
You've gone away
You don't feel me here anymore

The ending is the most important part of the song. Amy is literally speaking to him through the wall and he is just numb giving her nothing but at the same time feels the same way she does. This is the kiss of death for many relationships not knowing how to communicate so you stay broken because in some way it’s easier than the possibility of the feeling of rejection. Probably the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen in a music video.

I'm 65 and I still love this song. It takes me back to when I heard it the first time. Evanescence is one of my favorite bands. Music like this keeps me young at heart, and with 8 grandkids, they are always introducing me to newer stuff, just like I introduce them to the music from back in the day, like the blues, jazz, soul, country, rock & roll, the list goes on and on. I always tell people that I have 3 types of favorite music , 1) Stevie Ray Vaughan, 2) Bonnie Raitt (who I believe are twin flames, or both sides of the same coin...so to speak), and 3) Everything else. 😉 Music can speak volumes for you when you don't have the right words to express how you feel inside. 😘

Damn I was in middle school when this came out and I hated it then. My first heartbreak happened when I was 17. I dated 1 guy in Grade 7 (I think the same year this came out) but that wasn’t a real relationship due to my being so young. Whenever I go through a breakup or miss someone who I lost like my grandma and my dogs at the Rainbow Bridge I listen to this song and cry 😭

Lost my mom 2 years ago, once I learned to celebrate her life and remember all the good memories about her is when things changed. The pain will never go away, but we should remember the great memories as that's what our loved ones who are gone would like us to do. Hope this helps anyone out there who's hurting 🙏

It like finding a letter or something that you thought you lost along the way.
I never imagined I'd have to express this, but here I am, completely heartbroken. My heart is shattered into countless pieces over the loss of my sweet, loving cousin Joi (Joilene). It's truly devastating because she was only 25. I understand the pain Amy has endured and continues to bear. Grief is a lifelong journey you must endure. You don't simply move on from it; it's a heavy load to carry. Right now, the pain is extreme because she passed away about one week into April 2024.

*Jarrod Michael Carter* and *Sarah Wellhausen* (and whoever else comments on this in the future and is confused): *Raza Khan* was referring to *J4KE's* profile picture. It's Disturbed's album cover/art. I mean, it's kinda like their fucking logo as much as it's been used by them. When I see that picture/face, Disturbed automatically pops up in my mind. I don't think anyone is ignorant enough to think that Amy Lee is in Disturbed... I would _hope_ nobody is ignorant enough to think that, anyway...

Amy Lee is Beautiful
A friend was listening to this song and I heard it, I loved how Amy Lee sang.
"Cause I am broken when I'm open and I don't feel like I am strong enough. Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome and I don't feel right when you're gone away" This is very true for so many people with attachment wounding, where being close and being alone both feel painful and threatening. Not feeling strong enough to show yourself truly and not fall apart in shame and fear in the process also reminds me of what a person with C-PTSD might experience. Both heartbreaking states to be in. Being a human is tough.
2017 and yet it is STILL one of the best duets of all time.

@@terrellsmith6715 I think there is plenty of talent, the music industry right now is oversaturated with sameness, garbage pop music and easy crap to produce. They took the easy road and produce horrible mainstream music (overall) with rock still having a lot of exceptions including Seether, though they self produce I'm fairly sure now. With fake drum samples and overproduction the life is sapped out of much of the industry these days. And songwriting is taking a backseat to mediocre and easy music.
Everytime Amy lee starts off with her verse i feel a sense of relief through suffering in her voice
