I also have a brown one from 1988, it is very quiet, has great ball bearings runs well over 380 rpm and has not required any greasing or oiling till now!!. its motor is a little bit smaller than this one, but has thicker and broader blades than the current usha fans. air delivery is excellent and easily beats the crompton greaves high speed. must say OLD IS GOLD.

I made a DIY cieling fan years ago during a very hot summer. The blades were simple rectangular plywood with square corners. When I turned up the speed to the max with a 1/3HP motor, it sounded like a helicopter.

Seems like an Usha Prima ceiling fan, probably you want to put a suitable choke type regulator to reduce the humming sound. Normally AC fans will tend to hum when connected to a wall dimmer switch.

Its insane how variable speed controllers makes fans noisy, they seems even worst on 220V. On 120V they can be pretty noisy too but not all the time and the sound is different. Your is really a zingzingzing sound while on 120V it sound more like huhmuhmuhmm.
