We are Duca and Roberta, a Brazilian couple that during a sabbatical trip in 2016 decided to follow our dream. So, we created "Odd Life Crafting", a project composed of many smaller projects that we call seasons.
The first one was the creation of Odd Life Crafting. The idea was to build a metal boat to be able to travel the world taking our house with us, but we didn't have money for that. So, we started the next season: we built a tiny shipping container house with no prior experience in building to gain some skills to build a boat. When we were almost finished we found a boat 700km away from our hometown that was neglected for over 22 years and we spent 2 years refitting her (Season 3). The last season has been a dream coming true… we are exploring the Brazilian coast with OUR BOAT that we called Odd.. But wait? What happened to the house? Check out our website to know more about it www.oddlifecrafting.com/blog
We hope to inspire others to follow their dreams.
SUBSCRIBE to our channel and join us every SUNDAY for a new episode of our journey!!

We still didn't talk about it as the boat is still in development and we are doing the interior by ourselves and we are gonna do mock-ups to try in place things before building. The only video we talked a little bit more about the boat was this one: kzread.info/dash/bejne/eHuA2duNZJfclrQ.htmlsi=_WyqqwqlH2FPth1K

I wouldn't get rid of any of them even after the boat build!! I'm so happy to see you have your aluminum, too!! Thank You for sharing your dream with me/the world! A great start. I'll toss out a couple observations. get glue in bulk containers. Way cheaper. 100mm roller makes a good glue spreader. Speed is important. Wear gloves, your hands will thank you for keeping stuff off them later. Make a couple of wooden saw horses at the right height for you. You don't want to hack up those fancy ones. You will need a vice on that work bench. Get a 2m level. Nothing like it for a lot of reasons. Keep it in a piece of plastic pipe to protect it. Get someone at the yard to teach you how to weld aluminum. You will need to know later.

When you're building a workbench, you do indeed need to insure that the joints are all flush. If one of them is proud (above the other), then you could use your hand plane to take off the necessary material to bring it flush. Thanks for sharing the building of your new boat with us! I can feel your enthusiasm and am really happy for both of you! Good luck with everything.

it is always so refreshing to see two people who are so happy and in love. Now that your head is in the clouds better bring your feet to the ground. I heard that a real Copper Penny can make a hole in the bottom on the boat through galvanic action. Also any kind of aluminum sealants can also cause corrosion and battery acid lives aluminum too a sealed battery is recommended for aluminum boats. Not sure about galvanic currents when you are at dock too. Hmmmmm better get everything right!.

Great episode. I’m a big fan. I’m also a carpenter. And whenever I get new tools. I recommend using a permanent marker and writing your name and the date on every tool And not so much, because if somebody steals them. More so if one of your friends borrows one or if you’re working with some other guys, you can tell your own tools and it’s also great to look back after four or five years and see a date when you bought those. Steve 😊

Really interesting and enjoyable to see how the truck with the plates was unloaded. I had never seen a truck roof that could be opened by stacking roof panels. And then the were plates attached to the movable hook-and-beam and lifted up just a foot or two before the truck driving off!

You aren't going for a catamaran? Why would anyone build new, and not build a catamaran?

  • @OddLifeCrafting

    @OddLifeCrafting

    2 ай бұрын

First price to build it. Second price to maintain it when it’s ready (marinas are more expensive, maintenance…). Third there is a lot of space but it’s very sensitive to weight, you cannot put much weight if you want it to sail well. Also, monohulls usually sail better upwind. It’s Roberta here, I think these are all my points of view about it. Of course we did consider it in the beginning, but we wouldn’t have money for that. The catamaran we would like to have in aluminium would be too expensive for us and we can’t afford it.

Raising a child on a monohull is tough, and not really fair to the child. Children need room to play. You will wish that you had made a different decision. In the end, it's your decision, I'm just venting. You're young and can change your life directions fairly easily. Good luck.

urgent!!! -- DANGER -- YOU must be careful @01:50 you are wearing a long loose sweater and your arm acrossed in front of the spining blade - that could easily have sucked your sweater in and then your arm would be badly cut or amputated. LOOK ON youtube to see that exact injury. NEVER wear long arm loose clothes or long sleeves near tools. It is better to get a cut on skin than get sucked into the blade by clothes.

Hello Photize. To be honest I think we should answer your comment as our finances are our finances but if you got wrong more people might also get wrong. Yes all those tool were 100% sponsored by great partners that see value in us taking the time and use the right tools to get the job done as well as possible. And even though it might seem like we are swimming on money because we sold our old boat, trust me we are far from that, we are totally in a budget but at the same time this is a long therm project. We are building a van and a 43ft boat, that means we need to start building an actually workshop. Don't take me wrong, but we won't build all of that with a drill and two clamps. Possible? It might be but that is not the way we want to build. We want to enjoy the journey and learn with that skills for life. If we manage to find the right companies that believes on us and want to help us in this journey, in my rumble opinion that is a great thing and we are really thankful for having them.

Am disappointed that you are not bouncing on the trampoline or tooling around on the motorcycle ! 'all work and no play makes Duca and Roberta a dull couple' . okay. I may have 'adjusted' the old saying to suit your situation . . . . BUT I know when off-camera you guys are bouncing & riding ! take care, rh

Yup! By the time they get the 'workshop' done and all the supporting work-bench plus tools sorted and assembled the 'Van' would be completed ! ! BUT with all the preparation to work on the Van conversion . . . . . nothing has yet been done on the Van ! And all the money spent on the preparation would have covered the Van conversion ! BUT it fills more KZread time which gives them more money to spend on their preparations while simultaneously keeping us viewers on the 'edge of our seats' ! Genius ! ! ! ( ha - ha ) take care, rh

You do need to assume that various KZreadrs have things they don’t share and don’t need to share. Most seem to be very financially savy and likely have many sources of income to support their lifestyle.
