SEED STORIES | Wethersfield Red: The Pride Of Oniontown

Фильм және анимация

This plump, flattened onion with the vivid purple-red skin made Wethersfield the center of the New England onion trade for more than a century. Ordered these and so excited!!! Never been successful with onions. One reviewer on your site said they tried (as an experiment) kept one of these sitting and waiting to be eaten for 13 months. And they said it was just as delicious as it was at one month! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

I have grown these and like them a lot. They keep well and are especially good raw. Grow them and try them on salads!

I agree! One of the best things about heirlooms is that they are a great hands on teaching tool, it's an added bonus that we can also eat them :)

I'm in 8b and am trying to choose between planting Wethersfield Red or Cabernet this year. I don't normally grow onions, as my husband's stomach cannot tolerate them raw. However, we now have a few dehydrators, and I would like to make up my own onion powder. I got the seeds free from my local library, so I don't think that I received many seeds per package. Perhaps I should plant both?

Hi there -- If you have room, do plant them both so that you can compare how they perform in your growing conditions!

Do they still suffer from pink root fungus?

Yes as far as we know, resistance or lack there of is still the same, i dont believe any further breeding has been done on the variety since the pink root fungus susceptibility tests were done on them in the 60's!
