Lol. I love that you looked at your hand to see how many fingers you had up! Sometimes those digits just don’t cooperate. 😂 And I laugh because I’ve recently started nerve damage down into my hands, so I can relate to things not responding correctly. I love your dahlias! You should do a video on those.

This video did make me laugh! I spent the early winter on the Floret website, then checking to see if those seeds or their equivalents were available at Chiltern or POD. I went for Chiltern in the end. I have chosen mostly the same varieties as you and almost knew what you were going to say, though you threw in a curved ball now and again! This gives me confidence that I have selected some useful plants to support my dahlias in the vase. Really interested in seeing how your grasses and grains turns out. I thought that corncockle stems might be too floppy-will have to reconsider that one! Thank you for this video and happy sowing!

Oh, wow, you have so many more variety per flower type than we do in Australia. Unless I just haven't found the better websites. Your taste is very like what I buy (and would buy, if I could!). Gorgeous!

Love your choices. Love all of the soft pink and pastel colours. I too am not a fan of reds. I am also growing those large tennis ball sized poppies this summer. Cannot wait. Keep posting. I love your videos. Take care of your sweet pup! 🌸

Really enjoying your videos. I've been growing vegetables for years but am now trying to include more flowers in my plot. Thanks for your tip about pre-chitting seeds in takeaway boxes - that is really working well. Hope Walter makes a good recovery - my daughter's dog had the same op years ago due to bashing her tail off anything and everything!

I too am Chelsea, I too enjoy her accent, AND I too am planting my first cut flower garden this year too, what in the world hahahaha new subscriber. Loved the way you said potomac. (It's pronounced PO TOE MICK) kinda? Im sure there are hundreds of words from the UK j would butcher. Hard to type but anyways made me smile. Love your channel!

Poor Walter! He’ll be better soon and though I have never really thought about it before, I don’t suppose dogs care much if they have tails. I can’t wait to see your flower beds. You have chosen some lovely varieties.

I hope Walter feels better soon! It was lovely having you share your seed selections. One company you might want to consider is Geo seeds here in the US. They are a wholesaler with so much variety, great prices, and they do ship internationally. This year will be my first for cut flowers and I am inspired by your beautiful bouquets!! I have a very small space to grow so I'm having difficulty keeping the selections to a minimum...so many pretty flowers 😍 Hope you have much success!

You have so much flower bed room. Might grow a few of each variety in a seed bed. Then gather seeds in the fall for next year. FREE and you don't worry about seeds being sold out.

A good seed haul, very similar to our order for wardysallotment. (Our name on insta gram) . I have sown my nigella in August to over winter , it’s looking great so far even with -5c frosts. The asters will go in the poly tunnel this season as they always get spoiled by the wind and rain and are too short. Hope it works this time. Looking forward to seeing yours.

Yes I did think that was the case. I ordered from her a few years ago but I haven’t since.

I went a bit mad... My problem is not having a greenhouse. My windowsills end up being covered! I love cut flowers and trying to grow my own here it Aberdeenshire can be challenging!

Some tips from a seed firm that I buy from, Seedaholic: About NIGELLA Sowing: Sow direct in late Winter to Spring or in Autumn Seeds are best sown in short drills 0.5cm (¼in) deep directly where they are to flower. Sow thinly, once temperatures reach around 18°C (68°F). They prefer a sunny open site but will grow in most sites and soils. Prepare the ground well and rake to a fine tilth before sowing. Mark the sowing areas with a ring of light coloured sand and label if sowing more than one annual in the same bed. Sow 1mm (1/8”) deep in rows 30cm (12in) apart. Seeds germinate in approx 21 days. The seedlings will appear in rows approx 6 to 8 weeks after planting and can be told from nearby weed seedlings quite easily. Thin the seedlings out so they are finally 23cm (9in) apart by early summer. Compost should be kept slightly moist, but not wet at all times. An early autumn sowing can be made in sheltered areas for earlier flowers the following year. Planted it in the autumn it will send down a taproot and form a rosette of feathery leaves during the winter. As temperatures warm up in Spring, flower stalks shoot up. If it's a dry spring, give it water and it will grow large and erect. Without water it tends to flop over. Cultivation: Prefers well drained soil enriched with manure or compost ahead of planting. Can be grown on light sandy soils. Feeding is rarely needed but water well and apply complete plant food as growth begins in the spring. Deadhead to prolong flowering. Leave a few plants to die down and self seed. Others can be pulled up and composted.

Your plants of distinction “florists” zinnias are actually Benarys Giant series. I think Moles does those in bulk for cheaper

I’ve never grown bells of Ireland before but was told it benefits from stratification and doesn’t like the roots disturbed.

Yes I usually keep the seeds in the freezer.. apparently the seeds like to be disturbed and people find that they germinate once they’ve tipped the tray of seeds on to the floor?! Last year I tried to start seeds on damp paper towel and I shook the seeds around every now and again but no success! I will try again this year..

What are your poppy varieties they are gorgeous 😍 I'd love to try my hand at some

Lovely selection...do you find grasses difficult to grow... I seem to. Annoying as I love them!

Have you tried to grow nigella directly sown? It does prefer that and it’s a hardy annual so you can plant it in the fall late and it winters over in my zone US 6 B .

I have tried it in a small area but I prefer not to direct sow because I get too much competition from weeds 😢 I grow everything in landscape fabric nowadays.

Another fab video! This is my first proper year growing and I definitely got over excited and over ordered on seeds haha. A question on planning, you split your plot up into 21 spaces, does this mean you’ll grow 21 varieties in total or 21 flower types and each 10m section will include multiple varieties of the same flower? I’m just trying to work out how much I can squeeze in and not waste the seeds I’ve over ordered on. Ps hope Walter is well and recovered 😊🐶

Hi Adele, so glad you enjoyed it! Its very easy to over order isnt it!! The 21 spaces that I have in that field will have one of each flower type in, so I will fill a bed with cosmos but have 6 varieties of it in that bed. Hope that makes sense. Walters doing great thank you :)

Have you tried Breedersseeds.co.uk they sell larger quantities of seeds like moles seeds. I use Moles and breeder seeds. Excellent quality as you know with moles. Breeder seeds are very good too..

Ahh yes I came across the Argentine forget me not last year and I sowed it, but it never made it into the ground for some reason! Will have to make sure I get some more this year. I think chilterns has it in stock 💕

I have tried direct sowing them into a small raised bed before with no success.. I don’t like to direct sow as I get so many problems with competition from weeds. I grow 90% of my flowers through weed membrane now.

@@bloomandgray maybe look into sowing into a mesh bottom tray and put in the greenhouse? Like a pretend direct seed? Mine reseed all over (6a America. ) in the fall. Then stay put all winter to bloom the next summer. Might try to treat life a cool flower. Good luck. Love the channel! And love seed choices. I bought all the same!
