See the Rarest Of All American Built Cars In Their Original Factory Showroom From The 1930's

Ойын-сауық

I had the opportunity to visit the Auburn Cord and Duesenberg Automobile Museum in Auburn Indiana. This museum is in the original factory showroom. Many of these cars are simply one of a kind prototypes, production, and other rare vehicles that you will never see anywhere. Simply put, I believe it is the single greatest collection of luxury cars in America.
This museum not only shows many Auburn, Cord, and Duesenberg, cars in it but also has Cadillac, Pierce Arrow, Jaguar, Lincoln, Zimmerman, Ruxton, Mitchell, McIntyre, IMP, Boat Tale, Speedsters, Engines, and other rare automobiles that were manufactured from the early 1900's up to the ;ate 1930's.
The ACD Museum Website is automobilemuseum.org/
When I am not making images for my normal (if there is such a thing) bodies of work as a photographer, I make plenty of fun videos for my Model A or other related videos from that time period that you can find on this channel too. Be sure to check them out.
As to gear, I shoot a variety of full frame Nikon cameras and lenses. Most everything is shot on a tripod to produce the sharpest images possible.
You can see more about me and my photography at my website here www.kensmithgallery.com/

We would love to upgrade our video and microphone system to incorporate better quality audio and sound as well as multiple cameras and drone footage in the future. My 1930 Ford Town Sedan has eyebrow fenders and still has the original interior. It's certainly worn but it still is functional. I have rebuilt the driveline, suspension, and tie rods, installed a modernized Model A motor with oversized intake valves, insert bearings, and a high compression head. I also have a lightened flywheel and V8 clutch. The car comfortably cruises at 50MPH but I've had it up to 60MPH. I have also insulated and installed sound deadener which has made the car enjoyable to be in even at 90 degrees.

To help keep those prices in perspective, the first car, that cost $14,750 new, would be about $330,000 in our money.

When I saw the title I knew it had to be about the ACD Museum. Not only are the cars amazing but so is that building. It's the only building where I walked into a restroom, stopped in surprise, and pulled out my camera. This place is not only one of the world's great automobile museums' it's also a must see for anyone who is a fan of art deco.

Hi Ken, Two years ago I spent a weekend in Auburn, Indiana when not at my business meeting I was at the Auburn, Cord and Duesenburg Museum. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and I am a Docent at another fantastic automobile museum named Blackhawk Automotive Museum in Danville, California. Both museums are world class when it comes to the history and design of the automobile. Your video was stupendous. Many Thanks, Marc Leslie Kagan

Hi Marc, Thanks for the kind words. I appreciate them very much! The museum is a real treat. I had no idea of the collection that was there so I really was surprised. What was even more interesting about the city was that it had the Early Ford V8 Museum just a few miles from there and had it not been for a friend telling me about it, I would have missed it all together. I did a video on that one too, but I really was not prepared for it like I was with the ACD museum. I do plan to visit both again and hope to do a sit down interview with both directors. The museum you are a docent for sounds like another great museum to visit if I ever get out that way. Cheers!

I was there years ago (forget what year) with my parents. U was teaching at IVY Tech Community College in Evansville, IN at the time. I taught Auto Service for them. My dad told me he drive a Cord for his hometown doctor in Farmer City, IL back in the 30's for a few years.

Great video! I used to visit that museum for many years in the late 80’s through the mid 90’s and looks like their collection has grown tremendously. Do they still have the mid 60’s prototype Duesenburg? They also used to host rotating exhibitions and I was lucky to see some very rare prototypes from the 50’s and 60’s. It looks like they may not have the space for that anymore. Again, thanks for the great video.

Hey Ken, a little trivia tid bit from my family tree... My maternal Grandmother's great aunt was married to August Duesenburg, and I've never even had the opportunity to visit the ACD museum. That's pretty high up on my bucket list though!!!! Also, if I were ever given the chance to go for a ride in one, my life would (at least by me) be considered complete! "You just got me a ride in a Duesey God. I'm ready to come home now!!!"
