  • @BRStv

    @BRStv

    These settings are more designed for a mixed reef tank, as we will be caring for softies, and LPS. You may want to change some levels, and intensity if going SPS dominant. A PAR meter would be helpful for this.

    I have a strip light a AI strip light over my 20 gallon aio. I lost my program and was super sick so I just choose a preset to a region. Thats how their presets are. I think I choose Great barrier reef because it was in between Indonesia and Australia. Anyway it has an a 16 to18 hour cycle and same with noopsyche ab plus lps mode. It has about 12 hours with white for daylight. Is that a smarter choice? Since that more like their Habitat? I was going to change back to 12 hour with 2 hour ramp up and 2 hour down but corals recieve more then 8 hours of daylight! So why so most people choose 8 hours? Also If I choose 8 hour should the 8 hour be the same intensity of part of it higher and lower the way it is in nature?

    So I have learned that lps and sps can be in the same tank but away from each other. My question is. Will lps do good with the high light that the sps corals need? I wanted to have both sps and lps and also anemones and I've also learned that anemones need high light like sps. Also the preset shown in this video of 50% for blue and white lights and 15% for green and red on a 10 hour schedule, should those settings give you a par reading of 75-150? or higher? I also want to get a 40 gallon breeder with the same two lights in this video.

  • @BRStv

    @BRStv

    4 жыл бұрын

    Generally speaking, LPS do best in 75-150 par while SPS do best in 250-350 par. That said, LPS can be acclimated to higher light intensities over time if you do it slowly.

    What do you think about using the fluval aquasky for a reef tank?

  • @BRStv

    @BRStv

    2 жыл бұрын

    We haven't tried that one out. Looks like the Fluval website suggests it for freshwater or fish only aquariums. That likely means that the spectrum isn't what we'd be looking for to support corals.

    I need to have a glass lid on my tank as my fire fish and gobies tend to jump and I have a calico who loves to 'assist' them. will this change the par ? I plan on having a focal point of carpet anemone and some mushrooms and star polyps. 20" X 20" X 60" Tank

  • @BRStv

    @BRStv

    3 жыл бұрын

    glass tops will reduce the par in the tank. This is mainly due to condensation and salt creep. The cleaner you keep your glass top, the less impact it will have. That said, I'd suggest taking a look at screen top kits to see if that's something that would better fit your needs.

  • @BRStv

    @BRStv

    3 жыл бұрын

    Softies like Xenia usually do well in 75-150 par, but can adapt to a wide variety of conditions in most cases. Xenia also tend to like tanks that have a lot of particulate foods and nutrients to uptake, so that could be a factor in why you're struggling with them as well.

    How many Ai Prime 16 hd's would you suggest for a 75G tank similar set up here? would 3 be sufficient?

  • @BRStv

    @BRStv

    4 жыл бұрын

    3 would be enough light for a softie/LPS tank, however if you have a standard 75, you probably have a center brace. That is going to block a ton of light from that middle Prime. Because of that, you're going to be much better off with an even number of fixtures. An alternative would be to use two Primes in conjunction with a T5 Hybrid kit.

  • @BRStv

    @BRStv

    3 жыл бұрын

    If it's a fish only system, then lighting isn't nearly as important. An inexpensive LED strip light or two will get the job done. Reef Brite makes some great LED strip lights. If you're growing corals, you'll first want to determine what types of corals you're going to be keeping as that will impact the type of lighting that will be recommended.
