Nothing is aired without approval, they wanted this out. If you watch the whole show they counter his argument saying, What other choice did Russia have? and they were fighting an existential threat for their very survival. I think this was a way to save face and show that there have been major losses, which are obvious, but Russia didn't have a choice, it's all the wests fault, according to them.

I saw that a couple days ago and was just thinking to myself "why are they letting this happen?". Couldn't believe what I was hearing. Also, I would've expected a very different outcome than him just being allowed to go back on the same program to walk back his comments. I can really only think of 2 possibilities, either he is a very important person who Putin can't easily act against and that was the better option, or his previous comments did a lot of damage and they really had no choice but to send him back to undo it.

So you're going to go back and retract those comments and do and say whatever else we require_ kind of thing. Seems very much like something in a movie from a diabolical villain type character. But it doesn't seem like much of a stretch in Putin's Russia given the kind of punishments we already know for a fact he dishes out to journalists or anyone else who even mildly challenges him, whether they're prominent or not.

I mean he basically claims that West is the whole world. WTF?! Reality is that Ukraine is losing big time. They went through several waves of mobilisation/draft which means that they have terrible loses. And they started surrendering in droves. Russia is very methodical and very careful here, they are not in a hurry. US minister of defense called Shoigu to ceasefire. If Russia is losing why doing it, right? Reality is Russia is obliterating NATO prepared and NATO run army, so US officials started panicking. Ukraine had better ground forces than any NATO army but US and Turkey. Not anymore.

This guy has been an outspoken critic for 2 decades, including his articles some weeks before the invasion warning against bloodthirsty politicians and their "warm welcome, easy job" ideas without any basis in reality - laying out what would happen pretty much as it has now transpired (except like many in the West, indicating that in case of a protracted conflict, there would be a greater extent of urban guerrilla war at this point). His 22 years of military journalism has been highly reckognized in Russia though, including being awarded for exceptional contribution to the fatherland/federation by Putin himself, just a year or two ago. So his openly penned and widely published (in state media no less) criticism is well known, and appears somewhat tolerated, although all bets are off these days. His hard rebuke a few days ago was in line with his predictions and warnings in january, and pretty much an "I told you so". Kremlin did reel him in this time, but that is to be expected. Khodaryonok being as hard, sharp and outspoken as he was on that show though - that's a sign of 2 things. 1, that he knows he's generally well respected and favored in both Kremlin and the population so any severe "retaliation" against him is risky and costly, he doesn't play politics much so he's not controversial and the population trust his expressions. Then onto no. 2: Those in positions of public platform, with an interest in providing the Russian people a reality check, some cleareyed information - they are reckognizing that Putin, Kremlin etc are wrangling such a large number of dissenters, critics and various scapegoats right now - that the odds of getting away with or only getting minor backblow from making these kinds of public "transgressions" at this time, are getting fairly decent. They also know that the Russian population reckognize most of these kinds of follow-up "retractions" and "corrections" for what they are, so the messages conceyed earlier will stick even more in the public awareness, when followed a few days later by these "corrections".

My worry, is that Putler will get replaced with Generals who actually know what they're doing. Western propaganda has made much of the failures of the average Russian soldier, there are millions of them and Ukraine only has so many? Sure, fighting for your homeland' that's what I would do too, being a proxy war against invaders? Take all the help you can get, don't forget Warsaw. Take the weapons and use them wisely, sorry Ukraine (because I am a friend) I will point out how that city got just 'shafted', brave men and women rising up, no hope of even surviving. i am absolutely against the Russian invasion of a peaceful and sovereign nation. This will I say, just because it's true, hard to believe, in these enlightened times, that any super-power will invade another country? How does that work out? Modern weapons surely create a loss-loss situation? In Ireland, it's simple, we don't have the GDP, we cannot afford high-end frigates or 4'5 generation fighters, what we do have, is brave well-trained soldiers and a population that will never give in. Ireland is the force of the Irish people and Ukraine is the force of many brave soldiers, men and women who will not back down? Don't trade your lives for geopolitics, be careful of your new friends? I don't suggest that Russia is one of them! Maybe think how great it is for Western arms manufacturers and their chance for free trials? Russia has systematically levelled cities to the ground, even in terms of progress/ strategic advantage, it's not great? Now that they command a wasteland, it seems that Ukraine is the scrapyard for Russian vehicles? I couldn't answer this truthfully, would I happily fire on Russian soldiers? Well, yes, if they were in my country, without a doubt but I wouldn't forget they probably didn't wish to be here, bottom line, it's not working and it will only get worse. Not surprised that Ukraine will also claim the Crimea, you fucking asked for it! Now you got it!

The Ukrainian heroes in Mariupol defied the Russian Air Force, Russian artillery, including Russian : missiles, navy shelling, tanks, flame throwers, incendiary bombs, bunker bombs and anti tank weapons.Radically outnumbered and surrounded by enemies the Ukrainian warriors did all that was humanely possible. Who else can claim this level of commitment to their country's defense?
