one suggestion is to not be afraid to speak up, respectfully. This is your body, your skin, you're stuck with this. So be sure 100% about the design, placement, the tattoo artist, don't be afraid to offend them, so long as you're respectful. They want you to be happy with your tattoo!

Never haggle your tattoo prices, do the research ahead of time to get an idea of what it’ll cost, but always focus on quality of work. You may pay more but it’s for a better product from a respectable artist

I ask the hourly, just so I can get a ball park. And if it's a multi session situation, I'm just honest, 3 hours usually matches my budget AND my pain threshold. So ask to be scheduled in three hour increments. That way the artist knows he can schedule someone else for the same day ECT... I know the first session/outline might run a bit longer, and I'm prepared for it, but it starts to get hard for me to sit towards the end.

@@daijaaki Not sure if you’ve gotten it yet, but for me, my thigh felt like getting scratched by a cat over and over again in the same spot. A bit painful, but very easily bearable. The worst one in terms of total pain was my arm, but that piece was 3.5 hours of tattooing not counting breaks. But worst pain at any point in time during the tattoo was easily my two rib tattoos. That felt like a hot knife splitting my skin open. It sucked, by again, very bearable, and each of the rib pieces only took around 20-30 minutes each.
Even I know just as a customer that you should NEVER negotiate prices. It's almost like a slap in the face to the artist. Also, always show up to the shop with more money than you think the tattoo will be, for multiple reasons.
Paul Booth is not only a tattoo master, but also being a master at being surrounded darkness and eerie gore, yet I think its absolutely clear that he is a totally lovable guy (like here just adding that "maybe im laughing with you", it says more than a 1000 explanatory-words, subtle, genius) guy. Reminds my neighbor of over 10 years ago, the late great HR Giger, who was similar...
He's the most chill guy in the tattoo industry.

If y’all don’t think you can handle the pain well-ESPECIALLY IN A VERY PAINFUL SPOT- there’s numbing cream on Amazon that you can get really cheap, and an hour before your session, apply it to the area you’re getting tattooed and wrap in saran wrap. A couple minutes before you get the tattoo placed, take off the wrap and wipe off the cream. I recently got part of my hip and stomach tattooed, and my artist used it on me to help with the pain. I didn’t feel anything for the first hour and half! It’s a lot easier for you and the artist because you can sit still and relax. The stuff he used was called Anesten! And You don’t have to tell the artist that you put it on before the appointment because some are A-holes and will make fun of you. Getting tattooed does not feel good and they know it! It’s okay to not wanna feel the pain so intensely. Also, the Anesten cream in particular doesn’t mess up the stencil ink and isnt greasy. It also CAN be applied to open skin!

If you do this though make sure to let your tattoo artist know you're going to be using numbing cream and what one, some artists won't tattoo you if you use numbing cream but most will just want to know you're using a safe one and applying it properly

@@CharlieDaMisslle888 since my artist recommended it and has used it on me and himself, I trust his professional opinion on the product. However, the co-owner of the shop is another artist that I’ve been tattooed by before and he says that if I’m getting a tattoo then I should just deal with the pain. I don’t like that POV on tattooing, and neither does the artist that let me use the product. It’s something that is safe that a professional has used on me and themselves, I don’t think you should have to tell your artist that you applied it, especially if they’re someone that won’t tattoo you because you don’t want to be in agonizing pain while getting inked.

My artist has been tattooing 46 years and won’t tattoo you if you use numbing cream or spray. She says once your skin is done it’s done and if you need to numb it then you are causing unnecessary trauma to the skin. There’s also chemicals in those things that aren’t necessarily the best to be putting into your body. Also i honestly feel like you are supposed to earn your ink. Just my opinion

@@mizzshortie907 the product my artist used he’s tested on himself. He’s had no issues with it. It can depend on the type of numbing product used, but this specific one he’s never had issues with while getting tattooed and while tattooing other people. She’s not a doctor, she doesn’t know if this product causes “unnecessary trauma to the skin” BECAUSE THAT’S WHAT HAPPENS TO YOUR SKIN WHEN YOU GET TATTOOED PERIOD. Like common sense sis

As a tattoo artist, what can i say... you should tell your artist that you can't stand pain and need cream. If they dont understand, change your artist, but please dont use what you think you should use. In some cases, if your artist advises you to use certain things, do it from home. But dont keep it a secret. I saw plenty of tattoos that turned messed up after numbing cream. The ink doesn't hold up sometimes, the skin might burn ( met someone with that problem) , that may be why some wont tattoo you. But for your own safety and nice outcome, dont keep it a secret. If the artist is a dick and makes fun of u, or will refuse to tattoo you, find another one.

From the limited tattoo experience I have, I would say it hurts the most wherever your body bends. The tattoo on my forearm hurt most at the wrist and at the inner elbow. My worst part of my calf piece was the top section closest to the back of my knee. But that's just my experience.

I’d say it’s the parts you mentioned AND the softer parts with a bit more fat underneath. People warned me that head tattoos would have me in tears but I almost didn’t feel anything and literally fell asleep on the bed. (It was pretty small as well.) The one behind my ear was more painful but not too bad. For me, the most painful one I have is the one on the lower part of my abdomen. I have a bit more fat there and that one tattoo was pretty big so I did shed some tears. It was a coverup though so it was supposed to be more painful than fresh skin.
I love these videos
Paul was very entertaining and I remember when I worked in a shop in E.Providence in 1994, I saw a lot of flash. Paul's was the most outrageous.
"Where it hurts the least - on someone else" lmfao
I've seen some people haggle and the artist didn't care. Some got super mad. Risky move either way, let see if it pays off cotton
the legendary paul booth!
I would love to meet Paul Booth!
Paul Booth is an icon of the art, Thanks for the years of inspiration before internet popularity and saw wonderful work in mags,
hiii i have got my Eyebrows tattoo- So does using At Home LED Device lighten my Tattoo Eyebrows ?
Paul's a legend 😂
It’s job security for us to cover them everyday LOOOL
Got an awesome tattoo artist, great prices for me personally while also doing the best designs i've seen! Had 4 tattoo artists prior and they were not very good compared to this guy. Got a new tattoo machine too which made a huge difference to me pain wise, only really feel on inner skin with 0 feeling when tattooing outer skin :)
It’s crazy how cool the chest piece Paul did on Ryan the Bassist from Mudvayne.
I am so excited because I am hoping you have to go to for hawaii next year And well I'm there like on the last day before we leave I'm planning on getting a beautiful beautiful beautiful vitattoo I'm so pumped already and I'm just like ready for another 1 and 1 for such a Long time.
Paul Booth is legendary!! & he seems to have a great sense of humor! LoL...would luv to get a tattoo from him!! (if only I could afford it 😪)..oh well one can dream
People ask me to describe the pain of tattos I just go... ever been scratched by a cat? That's basically it except once the needle of off it doesn't hurt anymore. At least for me.
I loved this😂
Im getting my first tattoo of hopefully A LOT next month and im going bigger than my hand. My artist designed something i will like for years and its a design that can be reworked in a few decades. I hope it works out.
Epic response 😂 @5:00 ¿where it hurts the least? "Well, probably on someone else"

Do you know the name of her shop I couldn’t make it out in the video?
Professional tattoo artist can never let emotions influence their work
I would love to try both these artist's. I have lots of ink, but not enough
I met Paul Booth at a convention in Xi’an when I first started my apprenticeship. But that day I was modeling my back piece.
