    This is one of the best commentary I have heard on trading retail as opposed to institutional trading and possible edge, I would recommend this as must watch and listen. He actually laid down the key to successful retail trading, only thing missed is the risk management which I suspect he would have spoken about if he was asked. Probability and reward-risk ratio are the two best friends of a trader to trade with confidence.

    This is EXTREMELY important info, and the reason why I like this video so much. I´m in no way an expert or a brilliant trader, but when I started trading I always wanted to know more about what happened under the surface. I.e. why is a former low or high that is 5-6 days old important? Or why does this or that happen? I mean we can all understand support- and resistance lines but sometimes it is good to know the underlying factors too.

    An interesting interview but the part on market manipulation is complete nonsense. The big players like to give the impression that there is no or minimal manipulation to encourage retail trading but of course they manipulate prices to their own benefit. More than half the daily volume in currency trading is controlled by a handful of the biggest banks. To fill their orders they need to move price to areas of higher liquidity ie areas where there are clusters of retail trader stop orders. Both entries and stop losses. If they move price to a large cluster of entry stop orders there is a good chance they will take the other side of the trade and then price will move in the opposite direction eventually stopping out those traders. These manipulations happen everyday. Some more obvious than others. A good (obvious) example happened on Thursday last week on Eurusd & Gpbusd. At Frankfurt open prices spiked up over 30 pips taking out obvious areas of (short) trader stop losses and triggering (long) breakout trader entry stop orders. Price then reversed frustrating the stopped out traders and trapping the new long trades into losing positions.

    Awesome Interview💯 I learned a lot from this video but the fact that manipulation should not worry any retail trader because the fines the big players have to pay for manipulation are to large, is false in my humble opinion. The fines big players have to pay for manipulating the market is 1-10% of there profit so they do it anyway. This opens up a even bigger opportunity for traders with little money because they can study the manipulative behaviour of these players and move with them (follow there footprints, orderflow)

    I completely understand this feeling... but stop losses are quite predictable though. I think there’s a range they could “test” (large position traders do this before putting on a large position to see if there is enough traders on the other side to absorb their orders). “Reminiscences of a Stock Operator” talks about this method several times. Personally I embrace stop losses, as long as they are kept SMALL. All it means is your timing is off, and a better entry is yet to come. Also, I don’t know if having a mental or mechanical stop really changes anything. I mean there’s hundreds of thousands of other traders mechanical stops beside your “mental stops” - so I don’t feel it makes much difference, it’s just a matter of timing. Even if large institutions do this... they can’t do it forever and there’s usually a breaking point when a healthy stock goes up without ever seeing that price again.

    @@zanspehonja4467 fair point, I think the large institutions have more weight in pushing the price, and the retail traders are almost always trading the opposite of the institutions, and as you may have guessed, the institutions are usually correct. I have been using COT report, Retail sentiment, price action to my trading and it's actually good. With the retail sentiment almost always trading against the institutions, if they moved price (an easy example right now is USDJPY, GBPJPY, GBPCHF, USDCHF) the Institutions are net short on GBP, net long on CHF, Net long on JPY, which means they believe GBP will get weak, CHF will get strong, and the dollar is weakening, but if you look at trader's sentiment they are net long on usdjpy, usdchf, gbpchf, gbpjpy and all those pairs have been going down for quite some time, so who really does move the market?

  • @teddymthembu123

    @teddymthembu123

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@zanspehonja4467 actually there is a way to get a glimpse of what the institutions are doing, but the data is released 2 days late from their entry, it is a lagging indicator but it's one of the more accurate ones, COT data is free and it shows how invested institutions are invested in the market, and also the commercials + the retail traders, this was enforced on them that they should provide this data so it gives you an idea where smart money is plying their trades, the retail trader sentiment is being published by brokers, this doesn't really show the full picture since the data published is from that specific broker alone, but more and more brokers are publishing this data so you can look at how the retails are trading and most often they are all having the same bias on almost all the brokers that upload this data, and to pick off from your point, like you said that Bitcoin moves against what the social media is saying(retail traders) who are buying Bitcoin because of its surge, this is exactly what we call market sentiment. If you would start to look for shorts just when Bitcoin is being talked about you'd be in profit, and also look to buy when everyone is hyping up the sells, this is why I'm saying fading retail sentiment is actually a logical way to trade given the majority is always entering the market late when it's about to turn, what you need to master after this analogy is your entry.

  • @teddymthembu123

    @teddymthembu123

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@zanspehonja4467 this is why I say your entry is important, you shouldn't sell just because the majority is buying, you should start looking for sell signals once the hype is there, for example, many people were saying Tesla bubble will burst and started shorting it, yet it crossed the $1000 mark and took out many retail traders, same for gold, currently the retail traders are buying it extremely, but it doesn't mean you should sell right away, it means you should probably start preparing yourself for sells, wait for reversal patterns and position yourself in areas of conflict(support/resistance), and also look at how the institutional traders are positioned by using the COT report, if they are still long on Gold then it will most likely still go up and then this will be the 10-25% of the time where retail traders are also correct, remember they also do get the market direction correct sometimes as well, so fading them everytime without any good reason wouldn't be a totally good idea. Over the weekend I did say GBPJPY is a short, Gbpusd, usdjpy, usdchf, gbpchf, I don't really remember which pairs I called altogether, but if uou could go to your charts and see the pairs I mentioned now you would've been they have moved quite a bit from the levels I called them. Once you master the entries for this sort of trading everything becomes so interesting. It's like the market is telling you a story and you're the listener.

    8:08 Do you really think institutional investors buy support sell resistance, really? Just think for a moment, if they are able to move the market meaning that they have liquidity "problems" they will trick people into selling (if they need to buy) by making planned movements in the price that will trigger stop losses and sell stop orders. SO of course what Trevor says about buying support is absolutely the opposite, as institutional investors they are looking to buy under the support, in most cases, or at least do the opposite of what the reatail investors are doing. In a simple way: they will make retail sell at the lowest level when institutional traders will buy, hence making people lose money while they profit from their losses and having a great average buy price. This is how 99% of markets operate on a day to day basis, and that is why I trade doing the opposite of what people is thinking.

    When he started saying there wasn't any market manipulation on the part of hedge funds, he lost credibility in my eyes.

    I listened a few minutes to what he says but he makes no sense. While you have the overlapse of the sessions and the books are gonna be transfered to the next shift (in this case I am talking about brokers), first thing they see pop-op on their screen are the accounts that have margin problems. That's why somethimes at the beginning of the new day you can see a spike. So only off of this information, how is there no manipulation?

    You need to re-train your video guy, he keeps moving the camera back and forth thinking it’s cool, but it’s distracting, we care about the words of the speaker not the camera angles.
