Secrets of THAAD: Protecting America from Ballistic Missiles

Ғылым және технология

The THAAD Missile is a key element of the United states Ballistic Missile Defense System and the system made by Lockheed Martin Corporation, has been available for military use since 2008. Nearly all sources agree it’s designed to detect, track and shootdown short-range, medium-range, and intermediate-range ballistic missiles, not ICBM.

My father designed part of the target acquisition system on THAAD. He spent his entire life working for the BMDO and after retiring he went back as a contractor to continue working on the project. He's now 83 and still working as a Senior Scientific Advisor.

the 8x speed of sound is the de-classified speed. as always the us military always undercuts the actual specs of everything to always stay ahead of everyone else. there's no telling how fast it really is. although there was a civilian video not long ago where a thaad was fired off 3 seconds after another 8x sos missile was fired off and the thaad over took the first missile even though it should be impossible for it to even catch up with the time delay.

@@zlatko359 Please troll someone else. THAADs radar has almost a 5,000km range, and is why Russia and China accused South Korea of spying with it. "The AN/TPY-2 Surveillance Transportable Radar, also called the Forward Based X-Band Transportable (FBX-T) is a long-range, very high-altitude active digital antenna array X band surveillance radar designed to add a tier to existing missile and air defence systems. It has a range of 2,900 mi (2,500 nmi; 4,700 km)" "the deployment of THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defence), which China insists can be used to spy on its own missile programmes." "First is China’s fear that THAAD could be used to intercept Chinese missiles and spy on its territory. Both the U.S. and South Korea have denied this by stating that THAAD will only be used against North Korea. " "Russia has also denounced the deployment of THAAD in South Korea. As with China, it fears an increasingly U.S.-dependent South Korea and a stronger U.S. presence in the region that could undermine its security interests. Following the initial deployment of THAAD in May, Chinese and Russian foreign ministers Wang Yi and Sergey Lavrov met and agreed on their opposition both to THAAD deployment in South Korea, as well North Korea’s nuclear program."

the reason why they dont need long range missile systems its because that will be covered by Aircraft carrier strike group and nuclear submarine that why they deploy it to different parts of the world to cover a wider range Radar all of US defenses are interconnected to each other like those deploy on japan and Sokor also in Europe once china ang north korea lunch a ICBM it will be easily detected and shoot down by Aircraft carrier strike group or either there THAAD system installed in Japan + those F35 F22 and other multi role aricraft

THAAD is designed to be operated as a part of an Integrated Air Defense System (IADS). In addition to THAAD, you would also have Patriot missiles (PAC-3) and AEGIS warships using SM-3 missiles. All three systems can share targeting information. In this case, AEGIS controlled SM-3 missiles are the longest range, followed by THAAD and then PAC-3. All three can engage up to IRBM range missiles, but the SM-3 is rumored to be capable of targeting the boost phase at enormous ranges (1000+ miles!!) THAAD and Patriots can only engage the terminal phase of the warhead, but at long (THAAD) or short (PAC-3) ranges. Both THAAD and the SM-3 should be capable of intercepting ICBM’s as well Its hard to adequately test these things because of the sheer cost of each test, but as an integrated unit they have been tested against small saturation attacks from a variety of missiles and was successful.
