SECRETARIAT - Full Documentary

Спорт

Secretariat (March 30, 1970 -- October 4, 1989) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse, that in 1973 became the first U.S. Triple Crown champion in 25 years, setting new race records in two of the three events in the Series-the Kentucky Derby (1:592⁄5), and the Belmont Stakes (2:24)-records that still stand today.[2]
Secretariat was sired by Bold Ruler out of Somethingroyal, by Princequillo. He was foaled at Meadow Farm in Caroline County, Virginia. Owned by Penny Chenery, he was trained by Lucien Laurin and mainly ridden by Canadian jockey Ron Turcotte, along with apprentice jockey Paul Feliciano (first two races), and veteran Eddie Maple (last race). He raced in Chenery's Meadow Stable's blue and white checkered colors and his groom was Eddie Sweat. Secretariat stood approximately 16.2 hands (66 inches, 168 cm) tall, and weighed 1,175 pounds (533 kg), with a 75-inch girth, in his racing prime.

This is absolutely ridiculous. I’ve watched countless thousands of sports videos in my life and there isn’t one that brings a tear to my eye every single time I watch it but this one. This was truly something supernatural in the sports world.. You won’t see a horse like this, but once in 50 years, if you’re lucky. A true majestical, freak of nature. Long live Secretariat’s legacy

Good thing secretariats not around to hear or understand you. Imagine if he could?. His self esteem would be shot from all the hating. The ones cutting down secretariat......STOP IT!!!! Please!!!!! GIVE THE HORSE HIS CREDIT!!!!!!! If sham would've won any other year or any other horse win any other year for that matter, then why don't we just erase secretariats records from the record books and say sham won the triple crown in 73??!!!!!! Sham (Kobe Bryant). Secretariat ( Michael Jordan) Wilt Chamberlain, 100 put. game. Bill Russell, 11 championships. Babe Ruth, pointing to the outfield for the Homer's. Tiger Woods, Dale Earnheardt, Michael Jordan's 6 championships. 3 peat, go on vation, come back and win three more. Wayne Gretzky and so on and so on and so on. And last BUT not least, secretariat. Triple crown winner. Sham was used hard going for the lead and packed it in knowing he couldn't outkick Secretariat down the long stretch after burning him out early. I still think Mission Brief's 1:50.3 under a hand drive as a two year at the start of October at the Red Mile will last longer than any of Secretariat's records. What really brings shivers to the spine was the day Jennas Beach Boy hit the three quarter pole in 1:19.4 back in September of 1995 at the Red Mile. September 30, 2020 marked the 25th anniversary of Jennas Beach Boy’s 1:48.4 world record for sophomores at the Red Mile - this after missing the entire summer due to a P1 Break. It lowered Nihilator’s mark set 10 years and one month earlier at the Meadowlands (1:49.3). Joe Holloway trained Jennas Beach Boy for Linda and Lee DeVisser and William Fahy drove the son of first crop sire Beach Towel. The very next year he would lower the all age mark to 1:47.3. His sophomore mark lasted exactly five years before P B Bullville won in 1:48 on Sept. 30, 2000.

He would talk to me about how Secretariat was "HISTORY IN THE MAKING" and how no matter what plans I had to play with friends or ride my bike on weekends, I would be required to be home and watch the Triple Crown unfold live on TV. He told me that for the rest of my life I could say, "Yes, I saw Secretariat run at the Kentucky Derby, The Preakness, and The Belmont Stakes live on TV. I remember that awesome horse, and I saw it unfold as it was happening with my Father in our Living Room. It was amazing, and I'll never forget it." Thanks Dad.

One of my most beloved and favorite memories of me and my (late) mom was when she took me, as a petulant horse crazed 16 yr old to Lexington. We were checking out colleges. I was upset since all I wanted to do that summer was ride my own horse; not choose where I would go that fall of 1975. Until she turned off the Paris Pike and onto the stunning driveway of Claiborne Farms. I was able to meet this incredible God-breathed horse myself. I loved my mom more than ever that day and years later, when she died just prior to 9-11, I chatted with her about this trip just before I said goodbye. Surprisingly decades later, I have relocated across the country to Lexington. I now honor his memory and that of my mom's generous heart, whenever I visit his grave at Claiborne. Of all the things that can make me weep, it's his run in the Belmont. RIP Sec'y....we were so blessed to see a bit of heavenly glory here on earth.

Secs' other two records, the kentucky derby and, the preakness have been broken in races other than the triple crown. Secretriat owns one world record and, look at how he set that record. Go watch the great kelso in the 1964 dc international and, tell me about a great horse. Kelso did 2:23 4/5 for 1 mile and a half, the sec fans say 'yah, but that was on grass which is a little faster than dirt' but, shit, kelso did that without no gates cause the foreign horses didn't use gates and, that was on 3 tight turns which are way harder than those shit 2 huge sweeping turns secretariat had a t belmont. Kelso did the last quarter for that race at the dc in 23 secounds 4/5 for a 1 mile and a half race on 3 tight turns which they have to sow down and, then pick up! You must not know much about the great kelso. No horse has ever been a great horse at 3 and, won horse of the year at 3 and, be a great handicap horse at 5 and, vice sa versa. It gets crazier cause kelso was also a great handicap horse at 4, 6 and, 7 and, won horse of the year at those years! No horse has ever pulled that rabbit out of their ass ever, except for the great kelso. That's just scratching kelsos' surface. I don't think you know about the great kelso. You will be mind boggeled. I still am. He is in a class by himself. Not even close cheif. KELSOS' BIGGEST FAN.

That's the biggest reason Secretariat is haled as the greatest race horse of all time. He did the impossible, something no other horse did or has done since. He is God's horse, not Seattle Slew. The only thing Seattle Slew has on Big Red is that he sired more foals and more turned into winners. That's it.

Did Secretariat win Triple Crown while being undefeated? Did Secretariat beat another Triple Crown winner? Better yet did he even race one? By the way Seattle Slew is the only Triple Crown winner to win it while being undefeated in 130 years of horse racing until Justify in 2018. So take your 31 length win and hold it tight. My 130 year record beats your little one race.

RECORDS Kentucky Derby: 1:59 (1973) Preakness 1:53 (1973) Belmont 2:24 (1973 ) Thank you and RIP Big Red. He passed away when I was only a year old but ended up watching countless documentaries of his greatness. Secretariat is the best to ever bless the track and we will NEVER have a horse like that again. Ron didn't whip him ONCE at the Belmont and you know what's scary? Secretariat was STILL pulling away at the Belmont when he crossed the finish line. Ron let hit run and he tore that field up. Secretariat was cocky too and he had EVERY right to be. He was a machine; he was Pegasus; he was/is/always will be the greatest racehorse. Sham was just born in the wrong era of horse racing. He was good too but Secretariat was just in another league of his own. R.I.P Secretariat. Run free.

Like I said, we would be talking about Sham instead of Secretariat if he was in another era. All the greats had off days, no matter the competition. Please stop.

drumma4lyfe06 Lets look at facts shall we. Riva Ridge was a decent G1 horse not Great. Only No 57 in Bloodhorse top 100 US horses. Ran 30 lost 13. Sham was no where near a good horse. At best an average G1. Ran 13 lost 8. and doesn't get near BH top 100 US horses. Just because a horse wins classic races, it doesn't make them great horses. Take the Epsom Derby. In the last 30 years only 2 winners have been classed as great. Sea The Stars and Shergar. How many winners of triple crown races since the 70's have been classed as great?

To me, though there are many outstanding horses , Secretariat was one of a kind. I never say that there have never been better thoroughbreds, that he could never have been beaten, but I do say that he was one of a kind in so many ways.
