    Thankyou for this video and the off ice playlists! I'm 19 and have gradually fallen in love with ice figure skating but living in a tropical country there is literally one ice rink in the entire country which I know I'll not reach atleast in the next 5 years. I also couldn't find any inline figure skate dealers exporting them to my country and even if I do somehow it'll take me another year and a half to buy them for my own, I'm still not sure if those skates will be available here then. So it's been tough and I've decided to learn basics on normal inline skates first but did not know what I'd do after that. I just discovered this channel and I'm sure that your videos will help me a lot and I'll try to gain as much experience as possible before I can someday make it to an ice rink. Thank you so much, even though I have never ice skated before I just cannot get over the artistic beauty of it from the moment I saw it which drives my motivation. I'm so so glad you put out these videos and really cannot thank you enough. One question, I see many types of inline skates and heard somewhere to avoid recreational ones for figure skating. Can you guide me on what type to buy then for the best outcome?

    I know this reply is super late but you could always look into quad artistic skating. It is very similar to figure skating but you don't need the ice. I have been doing that because of lower cost and distance.

    @@IceCoachOnline Thank you! I had a question for on-ice that I was wondering about if you have time! I was looking at learning the backwards outside three turn, and most videos and advice I've found on youtube etc state that you should be skating through the back of the blade with your weight more on the heel on the entry edge and the turn itself. When I asked my coach about it, he said that I should always be turning on the ball of the foot, even going backwards to forwards. I can't seem to do it that way, what would you say on this?

  • @IceCoachOnline

    @IceCoachOnline

    4 жыл бұрын

    Thanks for the question, I'll be happy to answer it. Some things on the ice can be subjective. These tend to be things where to position a free leg or arm. Things that are NOT subjective are where the weight is placed on the blade during certain things. When you skate backwards the weight is on the ball of the foot. In order to then make the blade turn to forwards, your weight HAS to move to the back of your blade to get it to flip to forwards. It is IMPOSSIBLE to turn from backwards to forwards with your weight staying on the ball of the foot the ENTIRE time. If your coach thinks it can be done, ask them to demonstrate it. They probably flip it to the back of the blade during the turn without realising, or don't do the turn, or fall. In the same way, if you do a forward to backward 3 turn, the opposite happens. You enter towards the back of the blade, then move to the ball of the foot to turn, then keep the weight there. You can test this with the side of your phone, a ruler, or a slightly curved object to see this logic in action. I hope this clears this up for you, if your coach forces you to try staying on the ball of the foot when doing backward to forwards 3 turns, then my advice would be to dress in full hockey gear as chances are you will be hitting the deck 😯 Let me know if you have any questions.

  • @IceCoachOnline

    @IceCoachOnline

    4 жыл бұрын

    Does it hurt the joints? Or does it work the muscles, so creates sore muscles. Which exercise specifically hurts your back? The safest bet would be to check with a physiotherapist beforehand! Without seeing you in person, it's not really a good idea to give you any other advice than take it easy and seek advice from a Physio/Doctor if you are experiencing some pain that is not normal.

    Hi Anastasia, would having tight hip flexors affect the height of your jumps?

  • @IceCoachOnline

    @IceCoachOnline

    4 жыл бұрын

    The main thing affecting the height of your jump would be the explosive power you can generate in your legs and your jumping technique. Tight hip flexors won't help too, so it would be good to stretch them out a bit!
