My issue with the clock isn’t about “is it a safe”, my issue is, is that that could be an item targeted to steal. So if the clock is stolen... there go the valuables.

i agree but most of the targeted market for these products is people hiding drugs especially teens hiding weed from a parent so that is were the clock mighr not be good also asking my wife who is a cop people dont steal clocks in B&Es

Thieves steal shit they can sell to a fence. Home items like clocks, artwork and furnishings are actually quite common items to be stolen due to their ease of turnover.

Agreed. It looks like a typical inexpensive mantle clock. A professional burglar wouldn't bother with it but your average methed out thief looking for items to pawn or trade would definitely steal it.

All the items are also very easy to pick up and carry with you. Thieves tend to go through houses picking everything up to decide if to toss it on the bed to gather later. Although a secure box screwed to a wall would seem more obvious, it would also take too much time to pinch.

My dad was a master carpenter. When he built our house, he designed one window with a window ledge that lifted. When the window ledge was lifted, a narrow metal box was hidden in the wall. No one knew this existed until the will was read. He never told anyone, which is the secret to success. It was held in place so that even if wiping it down, it didn't move.

With how popular Spam is in hawaii, You can't have that Spam Can safe in the islands. It will be gone in seconds. LOL

I bought that screwdriver safe at a Goodwill store last year. I thought the empty handle was for storing your screws so you don't lose them. It's a great light duty screwdriver. Even when I'm using a different screwdriver I put all the screws in that one so I don't lose them.

A friend of mine owns a used book store. He gets people selling off their deceased relatives books by the box full. He has found two booksafes in boxes. Long after the person dropped them off. Also people have just put large denomination bills in the books between pages. Occasionally a customer would be looking through a book and a large bill would fall out. The customer would tell him about it and he'd let them have it. Of course the customer would start flipping through several books hoping to find more money. On the food safes. After my Mom passed away last year my brother and I went through her food to donate to a food bank. Now I know that she didn't put anything in foodsafes because I was taking care of her for several years. But I can definitely see that if someone passed away and stashed valuables in those and their relatives were going through their stuff a lot of valuable stuff will either be thrown away or given away or sold at a garage or estate sale.

Jo Luffman, that is why the safest place for valuable items is either feminine supplies or an actual safe. Yes the majority of B&E is committed by men, usually between the ages of 25 and 40. The actual figures have changed since I got my training, but it's somewhere above 60% of B&E are men between those ages

Single guys have mothers or sisters so the tampon thing could work or it could make the boogie man want to touch it or shake it bc it’s out of place. My SO had a box of pads in his bathroom when we met. He used them to clean the glass in his shower and mirror. No streaks! I keep baby diapers on hand in my house and I have no kids. I use them as medicine booties for hoof injuries. Works like a charm.

Or someone might wanna steal that clock and end up getting more than they initially thought haha

To really sell it - get a LED lamp, make it up to work off a battery, put a fake cord & plug on it, then plug it into the fake outlet.

Another flaw with the screwdriver is if someone uses it unknowingly to take a screw out of something, then that thing is going to open up and spill its secrets. Unless you hide the screwdriver somewhere anyway, in which case why a screwdriver as the 'smokescreen'? I would also say, if you do use any of these for coins, or anything else that could rattle around, stuff the thing with cotton or similar filler to keep things from shifting around, and giving away the stash.

Because that screw driver is definitely made to stash illegal drugs that is why it has so little room you could easily fit a gram or ball or any type of street drug in that handle so all you would do is go pick up and drop it into the handle screw it on and throw it into your toolbox that you keep in your trunk or under you seat or whe rea ver you can keep a small screw driver set and then you are all good if you get your car searched. Like I said the screw driver can fit a gram or a ball or any type of street drug and that is why it is so small the sto row age compartment it isnt supposed to hold to big of things just a decoy for street drugs.

I'd hope it would work as a screwdriver. Don't want someone to use it and it break open revelling your stash. But many screwdriver sets are designed to store your bits inside.

The can stashers are made by cutting the top off and sealing a glass jar in the centre using plaster. hence the white powder.

My mom used to garage sale a lot when I was younger. Good hobby to have pre-COVID! There were a few times that she wound up with something at a steal (eg $100-$200 software sold for $1) where she actually went back and gave it back out of honest decency.

My concern is with the barbasol can. Someone could be like oh this is empty and throws it away.

I love how thorough you are with the products and don't just try and figure out how they work.

Put your valuables in a Ziploc bag, put that in a half-empty real JIF jar, and fill it back up with more peanut butter. Ultra-secure. :)

I once bought a sleeve of 200ct paper plates and painstakingly hollowed out the middle 150 with a boxcutter. I forget the diameter, but the cavity was huge. I then filled the cavity and re-sleeved it and closed it with a twist tie. It was a weird time in my life and I was living in hotels and extended stay hotels and needed somewhere to hide an uncomfortably large amount of cash where housekeeping wouldn't find it. It worked like a charm. Not once did I ever feel like anyone was gonna take my sleeve of paper plates while I wasn't there.

The issue with the clock is, it looks decent enough to steal in it's own right.

I like the hairbrush idea for travel... Purely to store hair clips, hair ties etc 😊

The clock should have a secret pin of some sort to activate before face will open And the fake food items should be something that's not likely to draw attention You might be having a party with alot of guests you my not know and they love spam or peanut butter and go for it Would be better as a fake can of comet cleanser or Scrubbing Bubbles or can of peas

The real con of the book is reading the existing pages, getting into it, and then boom you hit the safe pages.

Books make bad safes, as people tend to grab them and open them. Also, hollowing out a Terry Goodkind book, is the best use of his writing.

You should use a barcode scanner to scan the barcodes on all of the items made to look like retail products like the shaving cream can. I wonder if it would link back to the real product.

Also in the uk at least they can’t have actual product names on the secret storage things unless the company who makes the product also licensed the making of the secret storage thing. barcodes are actually unique to a store and not its supplier FYI, we sometimes get new products at our store and the barcode doesnt scan for anything, because we have to add it manually, a generic barcode scanner likely wont have access to store databases and would have to be built up by the scanners dev manually and hence many items will be left out

The brush would be SO much better if it had inverted threading. So if someone suspects that it's a cap, you need to twist it clockwise to open and with that, you deter 99% of unauthorized openings.

with a little creativity, there are many spots one can hide stuff. empty dvd cases, between fake plants and pots, taped to the back of paintings, stuffed animals, pillows, a vase filled with sand, between trashbag and can, in the freezer/fridge, candles, figurines, toys, dolls.... i think its better to hide it in something emotional valuable for a better chance of not throwing it away by accident.

Not a new concept... People have been stashing their weed in these "safes" for years. I mean... Passports. Stashing their passports. Yeah... Passports.

Cool thing about the book is if you have another hardcover book of the same size you could swap out the jacket, obscuring your stuff from robbers who might recognize common secret safes.

A box to keep people from finding your valuables being disguised as a Terry Goodkind book is just so fitting, especially considering the way Faith of the Fallen turned out.

My dispensary sells the jif and Barbasol and all sorts of secret stash containers. I have a Pepsi can for my dry herbs lol ☺️

So easy to make your own book safe from any old book. Yep, Dollar stores sell books for $1. Just use a utility knife or X-acto type scalpel to cut out an area inside half of the pages. Glue the pages together... or don't... maybe just a bit of tape through the sides of the hole. Also, those can openers that cut the side of the can, instead of the top, leave the lid intact and basically turn canned goods into stash cans. You can glue a few small magnets to the lid of the can, and a few to the insides (at near where the lid will be) to make quite a nice stash can. Filling the leftover empty space with a rag will prevent things from rattling around. . This can work with the giant 6 pound cans of tomatoes or whatever that you might find at Costco. If you don't want to mess with making a stash can, just find another grocery item such as Argo corn starch, that has a screw top lid. So many grocery item containers are very cheap, and look real because they ARE real. Cheaper and better to make your own. Thinking about this for a few minutes will lead to a better result than buying something ready made.

Buying an old wide mouth Thermos from the Salvation Army is cheap and convincing, too. This might work for a vehicle too, in the trunk or under the seat.

If you use any of these hiding places please tell a trusted family member. A friend of mine was helping her fiance after his elderly mother died. She was going through the clothes to make sure they were in good condition to donate to Goodwill. In the pockets of almost every item she found cash. By the time she was done she had found several thousand dollars. She asked her fiance if she could keep anything she found or wanted, he said sure. She said I don't think you understand what you just agreed to. She gave him the money. It was enough to pay for his mother's funeral and then some. His mother found a way to avoid inheritance tax. Another friend, her fiance's father had been hiding money in and around the house for his entire life. Their home had been in the family for several generations. The fiance was digging in the garden and found a Mason jar full of cash, then another, and another. He found hidden money all over the house too. My friend had a dream at the house where the late father said he adored her and hoped his son would finally marry her soon, and he had a gift for her. He told her this odd dollar amount, and that it was hidden in a box in the back corner of the attic under some magazines. She woke, told her fiance, they went looking, found it, was the amount, and exact location, so he said it was hers, his father obviously meant it for her. A cousin bought the house and land next door. The old man's children thought he was rich in cash. Went through his belongings, didn't find cash, sold house with contents. The old guy had a collection of collections. Worth hundreds of thousands at a quick auction. If my cousin would have done the research, and taken the things to a reputable auction house, he could have made over a million dollars. The old man knew history and the value of things. He bought low to sell high to support his old age, he just died before he got a chance to sell. People born before the great depression don't trust banks, and taught that to their children. You may not want your grandparents valuables, but go through everything before selling or donating the items. You never know what you may find. Some things should be kept to hand down to the next generation though.

Funny story - my families cabin got broken into years ago and they actually stole the clock that was on the wall. We're talking cheap cheap wall clock and they took it....🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️ glad we didn't have valuables hidden inside...besides the battery I guess

Regarding the "4 stars or higher" -system, could be cool to do a video once for items that got 2 or 3 stars and see why they got so bad review.

Rumor has it, the Barbasol cans are filled with cocaine, shipped through the US, then the cocaine and cans are sold separately.

The easy way to tell that the peanut butter is a safe: no one buys extra crunchy peanut butter. Homemade safe: empty mayo jar, slosh white paint inside, empty, let dry. Store it in fridge.

In my experience, burglars will open up everything that can hold things. The the clock is a waste of time. They will check everything if given enough time. My advice is a good safe bolted down

I used to have a 3 number combo lock gas cap for my suburban. It had a screw out on the underside with enough room for a spare door and ignition key! Good if you are prone to lose your keys! I had a door key in it and a $100 bill, just because I was prone to lock my keys in the truck!

You could make that booksafe with any old hardcover book. (You can even pick up something at a dollar store, they usually sell off remaindered books) Just grab a ruler and an x-acto knife or boxcutter and hollow out the inside. Then you'll have like, and extra $15-17 to put in the booksafe! You can also make any can a safe with one of those edge-cutter can openers. They may not stand up to as much scrutiny, but if you put it in your fridge, no one is going to think it's anything but a can of pop.

There used to be a show called it takes a their and the book would suck as when someone is looking for stuff to steal they toss crap all over the place so as soon as they book gets tossed accessed the room and all your goods fall on the floor it has been exposed.

The clock should have a panel or cover like the book. Especially if you have kids in the house, stuff like a clock is likely be knocked over. There should be a lock or switch to front opening and then 2nd cover with switch or lock after opening the first door.

I feel like the white powder could be there so it sounds like a real one if you pick it up and shake it to make anyone looking for a hidden stash quickly think it's just another can of shaving cream.

I remember seeing a fake book at the tool supply that was about metallurgy. I think the attempt was to make it too boring to want to pick up but it would be the first book I would reach for. I like the idea of an unsavory contents box. I think something like 12 month blood and fecal samples for infectious bacteria and tapeworm might work. A little studio blood and Nutella on the box just for good measure.

I think that the screwdriver compartment is meant for screws, and I think that the hairbrush compartment is meant for hairpins. And the barbasol can is clearly meant for dinosaur DNA

If it helps... I have been a pretty convincing Walter White for Halloween.

As for the white powder in the shaving can (i assume it's shaving foam? ours don't look like that in the UK) I think it's too absorb moisture so you can hide it in your bathroom maybe?

And it needs something to hold the glass in place? Looks like a lil mason jar in it.

Great vid! I was thinking that you could put a used shaving cream nozzle on the safe and that would also add to the "look" of the safe. As for the clock, I wonder if you could Drill a hole from the back and put a screw (Or something....) that would reach to the door of the clock...,? I was also thinking that you could put something in the book compartment that would stick the lid more tightly closed like a magnet, or something sticky that would keep the door closed better...

The clock is nice but it needs something like a hidden magnetic lock, that unlocks when you hold a magnet in a certain spot

I think I have the best idea for one: A garbage can that has a (very well sealed) false bottom. No one is going to go through your trash thinking there's money in there. You can even just fill it up with very well washed recyclables forever, and not use it as a trash can at all.

Sticking the Barbasol and the hairbrush under the sink with the cleaning supplies was freaking hilarious. "Here let me check under this sink for hidden loot. Uh huh, uh huh, ok, nothing under here but some cleaning supplies, a Barbasol can with no expiration date printed on the bottom, and this hairbrush with what looks like some kind of cap. Crap!! Better move along.". You're too funny, James. I wonder how many dishonest people on here are now going to go pilfer through pantries, check under sinks, and try to pull every clock face down??

My dream is to have a huge Scooby Doo house that has hidden ROOMS in it. Of course, those rooms would have full medieval armor, film projectors, and two holes in the wall that perfectly lines up with the eyes of a painting on the other side.

3:07 when people come and see that hairbrush. "Hmm.. i smell something fishy in the air"

For the PB, the peanut butter is too consistent. But just glancing at it, I don't think a thief would notice. Also, does this make anyone else want to announce (proudly since it's much better places,) where they hide their valuables? lol

Was literally about to make a comment like "I use w for x! And I noticed that y and z are actually good options that are already part of bits in my home!" And then I realized... any prospective thieves in the comments are immediately gunna check those spots in others' homes now, aren't they... Probably best to keep it to yourself 😂

I suppose the Jif container is the best option but if the burglar likes extra chunky peanut butter you're in trouble.

Loved the video; your sneak peek video had me very intrigued as to where this one was going.

That lava lamp behind you can store some stuff in. The cap can store some extra money for emergencies. That screwdriver can hide a usb stick, and maybe some diamond earrings.

This was a better episode than I thought it was going to be.

Got my quart oil can safe out in my automotive supplies in my workshop...keep nuttin in it just in case a thief does find it, opens it, and realizes this dude's got nothin'! Ha ha.

The cons with the feel of an almost-empty Barbasol can sitting at the back of a cupboard is that someone's gonna chuck it out. The clock is perfect for a practical joke, like storing catnip, installing a mirror/canned snakes, or whatever dopey shit is making me giggle at any given time. The cons with the book safe is; either it's not the sort of book I'd ever own (and therefore obviously suspicious), or, it'd look like a good book and I'd be sad I couldn't read it.

trouble with things like the hair brush, if you put coins or keys in there, sure they fit but you gotta hope they don't pick them up or move them, or else they'll hear the item rattling around inside!

Some of these like the clock work on the theory of “a man on a galloping horse will never notice the difference “! If you are a thief you are not going to take time to see if the homeowners hairbrush or clock come apart!

But you might think you can make a quick buck on the clock itself, then get more than you thought out of it 😅

I think the hairbrush one is a really good idea actually. It can hold bobby pins and hair ties and stuff like that 🤷 very useful imo

And nobody would steal someones used hairbrush Edit: unless they're trying to frame you for a crime and want your hair samples 😆

I think for traveling and leaving valuables in a hotel room, the brush, shaving cream, and book could work. The screwdriver would work for an expensive necklace, bracelet, earrings, rings, etc...not to travel with though. lol For any covers that don't stay shut use my go-to, museum putty. I use it for everything!

The hairbrush is for holidays at your hotel. Thieves dont have much time and will check obvious places. U can stash a few hunge in ur brush for emergency.

I think the best place to hide things might be hidden compartments in heavy furniture like a TV stand with an internal drawer hidden inside or a push to open drawer on a bed frame that's against the wall no burger is gonna take the time to hoist a mattress and maybe a box spring up and move the bed frame from against the wall to see if there's anything behind it. Those places help keep party guests and children from finding or throwing away your safe as well. I'd imagine those you would have to have one made or do it yourself though.

I actually like the clock. All you have to do is put some decorations around it, and make it look like just part of the decor.

The Barbasol one is old. All you need is to use a can opener on the bottom of can and glue a baby food jar inside and the lid on the bottom. I did that in grade school.
