    I've owned a few versions of these and they all worked great if you followed directions. The liquid should be chilled and should also be sufficiently sweetened to crystallize properly. The Zoku is kind of a really expensive version of the Slush Mug which I've had and the Frozen Magic is a slightly different way to get more surface area to the liquid and is a very nice way of doing it compared to the Slushy Magic I had before which was little cubes that you'd freeze and use to make slush. Over the years basically you learn to not use milk and to avoid things that may be 'low sugar' or 'sugar free'. Typically I will get super good results with fridge chilled juices or sodas or even normally sweetened sports drinks. As long as the liquid is rather cold, it will not take super long to make the slush, but if it's room temp it will take FOREVER and a lot of the chill will be taken off the cup trying to bring the temp. of the liquid down. One thing I've done if I want a slush and only had drinks that were sitting at room temp is chill it quickly with some ice to ensure quicker slushing.

    Most of these slushy gadgets work just fine with sodas, so high fructose corn syrup apparently counts as natural. I can confirm that frozen ginger-ale is amazing. The one I use is basically a hollow mug with what is likely an alcohol/water mix inside it. It has the same problem you had, and it has to do with the surface area of the freezing surface, so I add an ice-cube or 2. I stick it in the freezer over night, and the next day I wrap it in a modified koozy, and fill it with refrigerated drinks. If I use ice, I can get about 2 cans worth of slushy, but only about 1.5 without. Without the koozy, it only freezes about 90% of one can's worth of soda.

    I've had that zoku slush maker for a couple of years. It does work pretty well, but it does take about 5 to 7 minutes to get a fully slushed drink. But the nice thing is that it's so cold, you can pour a second drink into it after you finish the first and make another slushy. The cup does need to freeze for a full 24 hours before you make slushies though. That might be why it didn't work on the second day for you. I also don't think doing it outside in 99 degree heat was a good idea.

    The frozen magic works faster because with the interior shape of the cup allows more cold surface area to come in contact with the liquid accompanied by the fact you are constantly breaking the ice particles loose and pushing it back into the liquid and catalyzing the rest of the beverage dropping the temp. more quickly than just waiting for the ice to form and scrape it off.

  • @warmagic9312
    @warmagic93123 жыл бұрын

    We used to use freezer cups for ice cream floats when I was a kid. It would turn the root beer into slush... so good! These just look like fancy freezer cups. The reason the one is so much faster is surface area. Those ridges going in gave the frozen surface a much larger surface area. Probably about 2x as much. More contact with the frozen surface = faster freezing time.
