Imagine finding kinship with artists, both distant relationships. One's distance through death, one's through earthly geography. I'm so grateful.

Let's be honest, the fella with the hair, the 'assistant'. He's doing the heavy lifting here. Bourgeois wasn't sculpting 30 foot spiders, nor was she actually welding Cells together in 1989. May seem an unimportant point, but the deception is necessitated by her own theory of art as therapy. She claimed art was therapeutic because of its processes, not in its product, but it's clear she wasn't actually physically able to participate in the majority of those processes. She was essentially letting other people produce what the market wanted, which was paint-by-numbers symbolic sculpture with her name slapped on it.

Don't be ridiculous. A fit athlete could not have made the huge bronze spiders by themselves. Go and read some art history. You will find there have always been studio assistants and students helping great artists.
