#SecretInvasion #Recap #MCU
Hey welcome to the ScreenCrush breakroom, I’m Ryn Arey, and this is everything you need to know before watching secret invasion recap. This show is going to bring together the earth and cosmic sides of the MCU-it's the culmination of dozens of hours of MCU storytelling. So, in case you didn't have time for a rewatch, I am here to explain it all to you.
And also, this recap is also a great set up for the movie marvels.
So, at the beginning of all creation.
Doug: Wow you really are starting at the beginning.
I am, because this is all very important, trust me. When the universe was formed, the big band created 6 powerful magic rocks called infinity stones, that governed different aspects of the universe [wong says two of them] no time, you get the idea. You were there.
Fast forward a few million years to the reign of the Kree empire. The Kree are a race of alien warriors who conquer entire galaxies. They even arrive on earth to tamper with the DNA of early human beings, to eventually create the Inhumans. The Kree are led by the supreme intelligence-this is an artificial intelligence that is made up of the greatest minds in Kree civilization.
And the Kree are like the British Empire, in space. They conquer and colonize other worlds, while also fighting other empires, like the Xandarians and the Skrulls. The Skrulls are a race of shape shifting aliens. Now the way their power works is that they have to see someone to copy them, and afterwards they retain only the most recent memories of that person. Also, when they die, they become Skrulls again.
The Kree absolutely devastate the Skrulls in this war, driving them to the point of becoming refugees.
Now let’s shift gears to Earth, where world war 2 is in full swing. A German scientist named Erskine has developed a way to turn humans into super soldiers-but his first experiment, Johann Schmidt, united into a monstrous red skull. The red skull finds the infinity stone that governs space-which is nicknamed the tesseract. The red skull and his chief scientist, Arnim Zola, begin using the tesseract to create super weapons that will help their Nazi faction-HYDRA, conquer the earth.
Meanwhile, Erskine has defected to America, and turns a scrawny kid from Brooklyn named Steve Rogers into Captain America. With a really cool Shield made of vibranium, built by the scientist Howard stark. Steve fights hydra, loses his best friend buck [fall], and he defeats the red skull, but crashes his ship in the arctic. Howard Stark recovers the tesseract, but not Steve's ship.
Then Stark, Peggy Carter, and Tommy Lee Jones found the spy agency Shield, which I always thought was a tribute name to Steve Rogers and his Shield.
Fast forward to the 1980s, when the Kree send a scientist named Mar-Vell to infiltrate Shield so she can get close to the Tesseract.
Doug: Why?
Because the tesseract’s power allows you to teleport, they want to harness its energy to create a new ship that can travel further than any ship ever created. But Mar-vell has secretly betrayed the Kree. You see, the Kree are still telling people that the Skrulls are a huge threat-but in reality, they’re beaten, and the kree are hunting them into extinction. Mar-vell wants to create a ship that will allow the Skrulls to find a new homeworld, where the kree can't find them.

WandaVision, Shang-Chi, Falcon Winter Soldier, Loki, No Way Home, Moon Knight, Hawkeye, Werewolf by Night, and Guardians 3 were all pretty solid post-Blip/Tony Death projects. They continued the linked MCU storyline well. I'd even argue Multiverse of Madness is fairly rewatchable, with the brisk Sam Raimi pace and decent effects, and Wakanda Forever has its virtues. Phase 4 certainly wasn't the absolute failure some people like to harp on about. That take has become a bad bandwagon cliché for angsty fanpeople.

Or, it’s objective opinion. There’s no way objectively, can anybody honestly say phase 4 is even close to quality of phases 1-3. Oh, No Way Home is Sony. Marvel gets 25% of revenue from it. Sony has final say.

@@jayw3512 No Way Home (the SM Home Trilogy) is a joint venture between Marvel Studios and Sony. The lead Producers are Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal. Hell, it's been years since Pascal was employed by Sony and they contract her anyway; that zany woman just has an excellent feel for the Spider-Man franchise (she's also active Producer on the Spider-Verse films). The Feige and Pascal producer partnership is a crucial reason why the Home trilogy and Spider-Verse films work as well as they do, not giving Sony a chance to fuck it up as they sometimes do with their solo Marvel films. The Tom Holland Spider-Man movies are firmly planted in the MCU world and event timeline, story-wise.

The multiverse story with Kang is just as good if not better than Thanos threatening to destroy half the universe and then the entire universe after the Avengers reversed his snap. So that when they watch it there aren’t 100 questions about what’s going on and they actually get to enjoy the show and know the context of the characters and the universe. Thus, slowly turning my loved ones into Marvel nerds like myself. I’m not going to list these forever You don’t think midnight angels is basically the same thing? Because Misty Knight is just a creative spelling of night which is a reference to her skin color. Same thing for Midnight in midnight angels. Is that better or worse than Charcoal in marvel being African American? Or Kasper Cole. Most comic naming is astoundingly not creative. Blackagar Boltagon or however black bolt’s real name is spelled. Right? Like the Chinese villain named Egg-Fu. Arm fall off boy, matter eater lad, or Silk Fever another Chinese villain. I think MOST comic book writing is pretty atrocious. The names just show some of the spectacular lack of creativity in the writing.

Yeah, I am not sure that the quantum/multi verse stuff is really connected to this directly - they left out pretty much everything with Loki, Ant-Man/Quantumania, Doctor Strange, No Way Home, etc. Which to be clear, is not a criticism, I don't think those are directly relevant. Eternals, Moon Knight, Shang-Chi, She-Hulk and Love and Thunder also are basically their own thing. (ETA: oh, and Black Widow/Hawkeye and whatever Yelena is doing these days - especially if she is still working with Val. Actually, maybe that will be relevant...). I liked all of those things to varying degrees but I can see how they had to decide what they would cover!
