It is hilarious to suggest that there were no available planets in the known galaxy for the skrulls to settle. The Guardians movies have made it clear that habitable alien worlds are pretty abundant. And Nick Fury had twenty years, so it seems like he didn't even try. There should at least have been a scene showing us the planets that Nick Fury picked as candidates, followed by an explanation for why none of them panned out.

i honestly hope the only people who go on from this project are the actors. I believe the writing, directing, producing and overall budget management (how did this cost way over 200 million to make) have been at best ok. Olivia Colman is the standout but all of the actors did the best with what they were given. I do hope (as a major GOT fan) that Emilia Clarke successfully goes on in the MCU though.

Agreed, as a defender of Agents of Shield, that show had many episodes with better plotting, direction, and artistry on a fraction of the budget (and also mostly great acting). This often looked so cheap and rushed and the story beats just didn’t land. The framing of 2 key deaths was an insult to those characters

  • @lukeguccii

I'm so upset that this storyline was reverted to THIS. They should have made this at LEAST a whole phase. Imagine all the movies having hints of skrulls taking over heroes and people (just easter eggs nothing majorly shown), this leads to the Avengers movie at the end of the phase - Avengers Secret Invasion. We get an opening battle between the avengers and some other enemy, where Thor has just been stabbed and is dying in the battlefield after the defeat. The Avengers all come around him, the scene is emotional with everyone thinking Thor has died...until slowly Thor turns into a Skrull that lays there dead. Boom, Marvel logo plays! We now have the premise of the movie that culminates the whole phase of easter eggs and little storylines that have been created slowly.

I also think they have an issue of hiring writers and directors who are interested in Marvel comics in general. I really *don't understand* why Marvel/Kevin Feige thought it was a good idea to hire non-fans* (Some who seem to not even like the comics and/or characters they are adapting) as the lead creators for these 200+ million dollar tv series/film. Personally, I believe hiring directors/writers who actually loved and understood what made these Marvel characters and their storylines so beloved (while also be very talented in their craft) would've been the wiser choice. *What I meant about "non-fans", is the writers/directors who weren't willing to actually read Marvel comics they are adapting, or doing any actual research about the MCU characters.

Yeah. Why *not* include Captain Marvel in this story? She has a relationship with the skrulls, and she'd naturally be the person searching the galaxy for a new skrull homeworld. This series was also a great opportunity to better ingratiate fans to Carol Danvers before The Marvels comes out. She could have had some great character-building conversations and struck up a relationship with G'iah, if G'iah is meant to be an MCU mainstay now. That's logical world-building.

Anyone else feel like "The Secret Invasion" should've been a Captain America story? Like, Captain American learns from national security about a threat that intends to replace important goverment officials and influential figures to coax world leaders into passing new laws. It already sounds like a spy movie, which is the perfect genre for Captain America.

That was a missed opportunity. This should be a saga. Imagine every post-credits scene we see someone from that movie replaced by a Skrull, for example Ned (Spiderman's friend). So in an Avengers movie we find out that the Skrulls approached the Avengers to exchange them. So we would have some heroes fighting Skrull versions of other heroes. Like a Spiderman Skrull. And the big villain would be the Super Skrull, who is powerful enough to face the Avengers.

Instead of having the Super Skrull in this show getting a majority of the Avengers' powers; I would have loved that they went with the classic powerset from the comics (i.e. fire, invisibility, etc.). There could've been a cool easter egg or after credits scene of the Skrulls revealing the names of each Fantastic Four member and that they have already stolen all of their abilities years ago.

Such a shame that both Talos and Maria Hill were killed off in this series without any future ramifications outside of G'iah now working with Sonya Falsworth. This show had potential but was just average in its execution at every turn. No disrespect to Kingsley Ben-Adir, but Gravik was just a one-note evil villain who would murder his own people without a second thought. I totally agree that we could have been more sympathetic to his plight if we had gotten to see the man whose life he overtook. The best parts were getting to see Fury's love life with Priscilla/Vara, and their chemistry was fantastic. Definitely one of my least favorite of the Disney + Marvel shows thus far. I still have faith in future MCU projects and am looking forward to "The Marvels" as I quite enjoyed "Ms. Marvel". Keep up the good work Grace! :)

Exactly. The moment the show ends is right at the point where it SHOULD have started. This show should’ve started off with a rogue Skrull/Super Skrull having killed a significant character or a high member of government while wearing the face of another known character. This would’ve given Fury a reason to return to Earth to investigate it and as the show goes on you find more and more people have been slowly taken over the years. Those shows are being released purely for the sake of baiting people into subscribing and nothing else, we can forget about coherent and continuous story, references, easter eggs and whatever. I'm surprised that Feige, a person that has build this whole thing from the ground up is tolerating something that has been happening since Moon Knight. I've lost faith in this whole thing. Daredevil will most definitely be a bust, Loki after so long has passed since season 1 is questionable at best, Echo is a show that nobody wants... and instead of at least building up on what they've created they continue to push new projects with the same six episode mold with budgets that barely shines on screen? If Giah was secretly the villain in The Marvels that would actually be interesting, but I expect wherever they take her character it will be underwhelming.

The only good things I can say about this finale are the FX looked good and the episode was short.

Grace there is no other critic out here like you. I hope you know how absolutely valuable your insight is. Your criticisms are always GENUINE and you always want better. And you do so in a way that makes sense in terms of storywise, entertainment wise, and fair. You inspire me to keep a balanced and nuance view of all media i consume so THANK YOU!

So... Shouldn't all the prisoners Gravik held at Chernobyl have died from radiation poisoning? It was weird how they were all fine after we saw "Fury" coughing and wheezing the entire time, and he was there for just a few minutes when they were there for months at least 🤷‍♂️

I mean I assume since they had to keep them to access their memories there was some sort of device to keep them shielded from the radiation and another I guess to feed them and extract waste. lol

It was too short for a final episode and a wasted opportunity. A damp squib of a series. But yay to the UK! Im sure we'll allow the US to join in if they're nice.

I don’t care that it’s a woman who got these powers-the problem is that no hero (male or female) should have this crazy power set. If you’ve got one hero walking around with EVERYBODY’S powers it makes all the other heroes moot-if she shows up to help, it means there’s no story. It’s stupid. On the other hand, I do think that it could work if they gave a VILLAIN this power set. That would actually give Carol Danvers a foil she could fight toe to toe with, which would be nice to have. But it’s just crazy to have a hero like this walking around.

The promise of the MCU was connective tissue. Yet somehow since as far back as civil war, that feature that made the mcu unique has been eroding away.

gotta love nick fury's logic too. i don't need superheroes to deal with this global threat and proceeds to send a SUPERskrull to do the final boss fight. real nice writing there

Thank you for articulating all my own thoughts on this episode and series, Grace! So many interesting plot points, actors, and moments just wasted. What missed opportunities! That’s what’s so shocking - there’s an amazing 12 episode series to be had here! With better creative direction and overall better business decision making, this could have been a real milestone in the MCU. I’m ultimately disappointed. Will the Feige, and the other MCU creatives, learn from this or will they continue to make the same mistakes?

I think the Kree/Skrull peace talk is a ruse. Perhaps that leads into the plot of The Marvels. No way was there not one place in the universe for skrulls… GOTG proved that there are havens out there… Knowhere.

I mean, presumably Dar Benn is the one that will hold the peace talks (which will be a front as you say), but lets see if the writers of those two projects talked to eachother unlike the wandavision writers and the multiverse of madness writers.

It’s good to see that you somewhat enjoyed it. The ending with the president and his hate and paranoia of aliens could be some interesting foreshadowing for the government paranoia of the mutants.
