This was an amazing reaction, it took me back to your A.O.S reactions with just the the two of you - love your team, but miss those days :)

The little girl with the ball reminded me of how Will Smith in MIB only shot the little girl target because she was the only thing suspicious do to her seeming out of place.

I didn't notice that every person was but I noticed the girl right away from when right before Fury got abducted because she had a close up.

Actually Eric, the clothes changing isn’t actually part of the Skrulls shapeshifting powers. In Captain Marvel (best/clearest example is the beach scene) we see that their clothes dissolve and grow from some kind of implant or device near their collarbone/shoulder. The clothes-shifting has a separate visual effect to how they change their skin/faces/bodies. My guess is nano-tech, this is more useful than shapeshifting INTO clothes as the nano-tech clothes can (theoretically) be removed from the body. It’s also why the Skrulls revert back to their original skin when they die but their clothes do not.

@@hazri8758 In theory, they probably COULD shapeshift like Mystique does, we hear talk in Captain Marvel about them being able to mimic non-biological things (providing the Skrull in question is ‘talented’ enough, as Talos says). But it’s just more useful for them to use nano-tech clothes.

Ugh I hate how much everything is just explained away with nano tech in this universe surely they can think of something more creative than that.

sam jackson seems to really be able to give his classic energy to this fury performance. he's always been a bit more on the subdued side when he plays this character so it'd nice that we can see him go more nuts and clearly have fun with the role while still feeling in-character

Something else I think that’s worth considering with Fury’s doubt is that not only could he not predict the snap but when he did eventually come back the world had moved on five years and all his carefully gathered intel was half a decade out of date

I am very happy to say that the location they were shooting the bombing scene at 17:37 was at the Piece Hall in my home town. I didn't actually get to meet the actors in person but when I 1st heard that they were shooting near where I live I was very excited nonetheless

Just a heads up for more information guys, Ritson was actually mentioned in Wakanda Forever by Richard Shciff’s character, the U.S. Secretary of State which was the title previously held by Thaddeus Ross, who will eventually become Ritson’s successor by Captain America 4.

I hated to see Maria Hill die! I did notice she was not mentioned in opening credits. When she was shot it clicked. And then go see “special guest star…” this has got to be the earliest we lost someone we know and love!

That transition when the Skrull at the gate shows his true skin and then changes back is so cool. Turning Skrull as he removes the hat and changing back as he puts the hat back on. Very creative and well-executed.

something I didn't notice in my original watch that I caught watching you guys react. at 10:32 in this video, the guy in the Skrull machine is the art dealer Fury and Talos later confront.

Sadly I think Maria is 100% dead. If the skrulls are wanting to start a nuclear war between the US and Russia, what better way than for bombs to go off on a Russian national holiday killing a bunch of innocents and they find a known US agent dead on the scene with bomb residue on at least her hands? (the dude she was chasing threw her the bag, why give away that the bag was a decoy when she hadn’t caught him yet if not to get her covered in residue?) That sucks cause I thought this show might finally be Maria’s chance to shine, but I’m thinking not…. 😔

Apparently, when Maria Hill was killed in the Secret Invasion arc of the Avengers EMH animated series, it was revealed to be a Life Model Decoy (LMD) of her as Fury advised Hill to keep some LMDs around just in case. So it's a possibility that the real Maria Hill is still alive and part of a much larger plan.

Although if they did introduce them they would make deaths a little meaningless as then everyone would start thinking oh I bet it's just a life model decoy

This show pulls from the same material that AoS 4x15 (aka the best episode) pulled from, so I'm excited to see where this goes

I think Fury being ‘old’ is part of his shell game. He wants everyone to assume he is out of shape so they underestimate him. He’s a master spy and known for being several steps ahead, which is what I think he is doing so far. Reeeeeeally hoping for an Agent Coulson cameo at some point though!

Garrick (who was trained by Fury) was just several more steps ahead because he had a lot more time to plan. Agent Coulson could make an appearance in a flashback, but the MCU no longer considers Agents of Shield cannon unfortunately.

Never thought I be so sad for Maria Hill. That was rough

The guy in the beginning who Ross killed is the same guy who plays bearic the guy with the flaming sword from Game of Thornes, I loved how he said chaos because it just made me think of little finger saying chaos is a ladder 🤌🏻

This episode was super great! Everything about it felt perfect. From just the opening scene of this episode alone I was already hooked. The writing, the acting, the tone, and the music for this episode all just felt so amazing. I thought that the tone, writing and setting for this episode has already shown what a great show this will be. I think that in just this one episode alone they were able to pull off a ton of surprises and build a lot of suspense. It felt like in every other scene there was a new reveal or surprise and I loved all of them. The whole opening scene were we think we are watching Ross but it turns out to be a Skrull was just so amazing to me. It had me on the edge of my seat the whole time questioning who there was going to be a Skrull. And the death of Maria Hill was so surprising and just felt like it came out of nowhere. And this was honestly kind of sad to see because she’s been in the MCU since the first Avengers movie 11 years ago. But I am glad that if this is her last appearance in the MCU, she got to go out on her best performance. And speaking of performances I felt like each actor was going a great job, they all felt like they were dedicated to their character and their role. I also felt like all the the characters had amazing chemistry with each other. I am already loving everything about this show and I can’t wait to see where this show will go next. I’m so glad that we are finally getting a project that is following Nick Fury, this just feels like something we’ve all wanted for a very long time. And I am very interested to see how his story and the story of all the other characters will evolve and turn out through the course of this show. I cannot wait for next week’s episode.

You guys (esp. Eric!) need to watch The Night Manager (BBC 2016) with Tom Hiddleston, Hugh Laurie, & Olivia Coleman. Olivia & Tom are amazing in it!

Secret invasion feel like the hydra storyline from Agents of shield for me.......also I fear that they might not find a good way to write them as characters in the main MCU story hence why they sidelined them even from the whole blip mess

Pretty solid start, especially for something I really wasn't all that hyped for. You're right, Sam seems to be having a blast. No pun intended.

For me, the biggest moment of suspense was Gravik succeeding his plan and shooting Maria while disgusting himself as Nick. However, my favorite part was Gi’ah pulling herself together to warn her father. Looking at Talos in human form, I remember that his actor Ben Mendelsohn was Orson Krennic in Rogue One. If the rumors are true, I can’t wait for episode 3.

Gravik may already be a Super Skrull. He’s at least already super talented at being able to transform on the fly from person to person. That takes real skill, holding onto multiple shells and recent memory batches. Look out for the Super Skrull plot line. (In one trailer, Gravik’s arm does this Flurkin/Groot thing that only Super Skrulls are known to do.)

This show is already giving straight Agents of Shield season 4 vibes 40:35 doubt it, but I have someone different in mind that would probably be more help than them. Someone that can shake things up a bit…

Shout out to the Halifax locations! It was great to see the Piece Hall at the end!

Who else got Jules Winfield vibes from Fury when he was talking to the art gallery owner?

Seeing them go back and forth on whether Ross is a skrull was so funny lol, I knew he'd turn out to be one as soon as he was walking up the stairs during the opening monologue. Also thought the Emilia Clarke thing was too obvious as soon as she showed up right after Talos talking about his daughter.

Carol said to Fury back in Captain Marvel movie that Skrulls can sim recent memories of their host bodies. Unfortunately, this wasn't explained in great detail as to whether they do this "naturally" when they turn into them (without using the memory machine), or they still need to use the machine to sim their recent memories. So for now, I'm of the opinion that when a Skrull turns into someone else, e.g. Ross or Fury, they'd have their recent memory. The memory machine was also used on Carol at the beginning of the movie to try to extract information from her.

The series was filmed in the UK.

One of the best pilots I've ever watched. Olivia Coleman is gold.

Well, now I really want a crossover where Skrull infiltrators try to do a thing, only to get blindsided by a bunch of Zygons trying to do a different thing.

Where they filmed the bombing was at Piece Hall in Halifax in the UK, I was at Piece Hall only a couple weeks before they started filming this show over a year or two ago now and having been waiting until now to see what was being filmed there

I am surprised folks did not notice Colbie Smulders was not is the title credits, I noticed and immediately thought "isn't she in this, wait, she might die".

I totally missed that the bar patron and the girl on the bench were Gravik! When Fury was following Gravik at the celebration, I missed it was them when he changed.

*Eric,* as a fan of *Olivia Coleman,* you should watch her sketch comedy work on *_That Mitchell and Webb Look._* A fantastic 4 season sketch comedy show that she starred in back in 2006.

Every time Aaron goes blurbygobbly 22:10 you know some good stuff's been watched. 😆 Love how you two picked up on all the spy cues, of my fave reactors, you're the only ones who did (owl cam, Ross 'maybe' in the plant prison, Gravik shifting to the people who's been 'watching' Fury). Cool cool cool. I might read the Secret Invasion comics though as the anxiety is too much. I'd rather enjoy the series already on the lookout for doublings and spy stuff than have to sit through watching tensely and asking who who who.

@@Kevmaster2000 some MCU is grounded. Fiction and sci fi can be grounded which just means the characters act in a realistic way to happenings in their universe..like not see somebody die then be making jokes 2 secs later..Terminator, Winter Soldier are grounded..Thor Ragnorok isnt

They really capture the uncertainty of who is who very well. ANYONE can be a Skrull in someone else's skin. Expectations get side-tracked several times just in this first episode........

the enemy within is a great plot device for jacking up the suspense. like Ron Moore's BSG where the cylons could be anyone. This looks good so far.

When the Skrulls have a Human "shell" to deepfake, apparently the machine the Human is imprisoned in allows the Skrull to copy memories much deeper than a normal Skrull copy. Making them harder to sus out. They don't just have the surface memories, like in a normal impersonation.....

I'm so ready to dig into this show, I really miss spy shit from the MCU. I haven't been this excited for an MCU show since TFATWS.

They did technically heal Ross' paralysis in Black Panther when he got shot.

Wonderful first episode. I'm getting a Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Homeland, The Americans, Cold War-era espionage Noir, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Battlestar Galactica, Men in Black, and John Carpenter's The Thing vibe in Secret Invasion. Gravik is a ruthless and calculating villain that wants all the smoke. What he did to Maria Hill was mess up, man.
