Secret Access to Petoskey Stones in Petoskey, Michigan - Tannery Creek Trailhead

This is a well kept secret place for finding Petoskey stones. It’s called Tannery Creek Trailhead and it’s behind a shopping center off US-31. Very few people know about this stony beach so the pickings are usually great! But it’s very important to know that you can only access the beach lawfully from Petoskey State Park…about a mile east. Where to find Unakite, epidote, quartz, Gowganda Tillite, Petoskey stones, large Petoskey stones. Where can I find Petoskey stones in Michigan? How to find Petoskey stones in Michigan. Where exactly can I find Petoskey stones?

Unfortunately that is a very known area with the locals and pretty much all of their family who visit and want to go rock hunting. But its awesome to stumble across while on KZread. ❤

Well for me the tip off was the dozen cars in the parking lot, not exactly what I would call hidden. There is a main road to that parking area they choice to go around the mall the long way and less direct way for some reason.

So nice to find secret locations. I had one in my area until a business bought the land put up a clinic. They put up "no trespassing' signs. I could of cried. But got many nice stones while I could :) Nice colors and awesome Petoskey stones😊

This one is marked as private too, with no trespassing signs. We've been there. There are signs everywhere.

I think this beach is far more picked over than you think as I would have expected more Petoskey stones

@@findingcolorfulrocks Yes, I know. We've been there and there is a big sign that states all beaches there are private property. It's right by the parking lot. That's probably why you didn't see people. It's up to you were you go, obviously, but it seems neglectful to tell others to go there when it is marked private property. The hiking/bike trail is public...the beach is not.

I want to thank you for making us aware of not accessing the beach from the trailhead. We have made changes to the video and will be hopefully publishing that within a couple of days. We are still learning about editing. Thank you again, we do respect the laws and rules.

@@findingcolorfulrocks I hope I did not come across rudely. It was not meant that way at all. We visited that beach too. It was amazing. It was in the fall, which is why we figured it was only us there...On the way out of the parking lot is where we saw the sign and we felt really bad for being on the beach. The sign placement is horrible. Happy rock hunting!
